Morgan Stuart had no idea that her boyfriend, Brandon Byrd, was planning to propose when her family got together to celebrate her sister's 30th birthday.
Stuart, 27, tells PEOPLE that she and Byrd, 30, were walking outside when "he looked at me and said, 'There's no birthday dinner. This is all for you,' and then he got onto one knee."
"I obviously said yes and looked up to see if anyone was watching, and I saw my sister's phone through the window," she continues.
When Stuart, who wanted to keep the moment private for just the two of them, saw the phone, she did what anyone would do in that situation — she hid behind a tree.
"I grabbed my fiancé and pulled him behind the tree at that point," she recalls.

Despite her quick maneuver, her sister continued capturing the moment.
"She was excited for me, it was sweet," Stuart says, emphasizing that her sister was unaware that she didn't want the proposal to be photographed. The bride-to-be also notes that she was not upset, but rather made a quick decision to keep things private.
"I preferred the moment to be intimate, so it honestly could not have worked out better," she tells PEOPLE.
The end result, however, left the couple stunned. The photos show Byrd down on one knee, while Stuart is completely covered by the tree, making it appear as if she's not there at all.

When they saw the photos, Stuart admits they thought they were "hysterical."
"My sister felt so bad, but we did not care one bit," she says.
She says she "put one of the pictures on my Instagram Story, and a lot of people thought it was funny, so I thought I'd make a funny video with it on TikTok."
Her TikTok video of the engagement photos quickly went viral, amassing nearly 2 million views.
"Once it started blowing up, I got nervous," she admits. "It's the first time something like that has happened to me, and I know how people can be on the internet."
However, she says the comment section "has been hilarious" and filled with "nothing but kindness."
"I have had so much fun reading everyone's comments and seeing people have fun with it."
Stuart, who met Byrd in college, notes that, funnily, the photos give a glimpse into their relationship dynamic.
"We are your typical golden retriever/black cat relationship, and I could not be more grateful to have him as my fiancé!" she tells PEOPLE.
