The Minnesota Timberwolves raced out to a 3-1 lead, but it might have cost them everything.

Yes, Game 5 on Monday, April 27, when the Denver Nuggets outpaced Minnesota, 125-113, in the first round of the NBA playoffs, was just one game. But it also served as an indicator of just how much Minnesota is missing without Anthony Edwards and Donte DiVincenzo.

Denver outscored Minnesota by a margin of 37-24 in a third quarter avalanche, as the Nuggets are trying to become just the 14th team in NBA history to win a playoff series after trailing 3-1.

All of this prompts one question: can the Timberwolves make a run without Edwards and DiVincenzo? Can they even get out of this round?

The Nuggets are now playing with significantly more confidence and momentum than they did earlier in the series. Denver’s bench had scored just 16 points in the crushing Game 4 loss; on Monday night, the reserves scored 27. Cameron Johnson and Spencer Jones, the pair of key Denver forwards, combined to drop 38 points in Game 5 just two nights after they scored just 9.

The Nuggets harassed Minnesota’s ball-handlers, forcing them into 25 turnovers Monday night, which was three more than Minnesota’s combined total in Games 3 and 4.

But, more than anything, the Timberwolves played tight and pressed, seemingly hyper-aware of the players they were missing.

1 / 0Coolest kicks of the NBA playoffs as stars show their sneaker style

The NBA playoffs bring out more than high‑stakes basketball, as stars showcase their sneaker style on the league’s biggest stage.See the coolest kicks worn during the 2026 NBA Playoffs, where footwear becomes part of the spotlight.Above, The shoes of Jalen Brunson #11 of the New York Knicks are seen during the first half of Game One of the Eastern Conference First Round NBA Playoffs against the Atlanta Hawks at Madison Square Garden on April 18, 2026, in New York City.

“I thought we started the game wanting to make all of the home run plays, instead of wanting to make the plays that help us get into the ball game and make the rhythm plays,” Timberwolves coach Chris Finch said.

This is where Edwards’ absence hurts the Timberwolves. He’s a stabilizing presence and one of the dynamic scoring threats in the NBA. He averaged 28.8 points per game during the regular season, which ranked third in the league. He can handle the ball, his shooting range helps space the floor and he’s the preferred option in the clutch.

And while backup guard Ayo Dosunmu emerged as a breakout player in Game 4 with his historic 43-point masterpiece, it’s clear the Timberwolves won’t be able to count on that kind of production every night from here on out.

Dosunmu scored 18 points in a solid performance, and the Timberwolves did shrink a 27-point deficit to 10 midway through the fourth, but that run came when Denver eased its pressure and intensity.

So, what’s the path forward for Minnesota?

For one, the Timberwolves should hope that Edwards heals quickly. Because even if they get past the Nuggets, their likely opponent in the second round would be the No. 2 San Antonio Spurs, who are a legitimate threat to win the West. But, practically speaking, the Timberwolves will essentially need to play pristine defense like it did during its three-game winning streak in the series, especially in the paint.

In Games 2, 3 and 4, the Timberwolves limited Denver to an average of just 38.7 points in the paint per game. In Game 5, that figure ballooned to 62.

Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert was masterful against Nikola Jokić. Forward Jaden McDaniels irritated Jamal Murray and Denver’s other ball-handlers. More of that will be required.

Because without Edwards, the short-handed Timberwolves are not only suddenly vulnerable, they might be marching toward a historic exit.

“I think we were all just trying to press and make plays a little bit too much,” Timberwolves forward Julius Randle said after the game. “The formula was still the same, so we don’t have to change that. We’ll be better next game.”

Iran has declared it will oversee a “future free of America” in a statement said to be from Iran’s supreme leader, as he threatened to US “aliens” to the “depths of the water”.

The supreme leader, who is the son of late supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, is believed by the US to be severely injured and is reportedly passing on messages from a hospital bed, via top security officials.

“By divine will, the future of the Persian Gulf will be bright—a future free of America, devoted to progress, peace, and prosperity for its nations,” it read.

“America’s hollow bases can barely guarantee their own safety, let alone that of their dependents or pro-American allies in the area.

“Those aliens who, from thousands of kilometers away, greedily sow mischief in that [expanse of the blue waters of the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman], have no place there except in the depths of its waters,” it adds.

The statement says that a new chapter for the Gulf and Strait of Hormuz has been taking shape since the Iran war with the United States and Israel broke out on February 28.

Tehran, the statement reads, would secure the Gulf region and eliminate what he described as "the enemy's abuses of the waterway."

The Supreme Leader added that new management of the Strait of Hormuz would bring calm, progress and economic benefits to all Gulf nations.

“This strategic asset has long provoked the greed of many evildoers over the centuries,” the message added.

“The record of repeated invasions by European and American foreigners—the insecurities, damages, and multiple threats they have imposed on the region’s countries—reflects only a fraction of the malicious schemes of global oppressors against the peoples of the Persian Gulf.”

President Donald Trump's reality TV days are long done, but his eldest son's on-screen era could just be starting.

The president responded to rumors that his son, Donald Trump Jr., 48, could succeed Trump not in the White House but in a reboot of the hit series "The Apprentice."

Speculation that his son could host a new version of the series was brought up to the president at the Oval Office on April 30, who said, "I've been hearing that."

"He's a good guy. He'd be probably good. He's got a little charisma going, you'd need a little charisma for that," he told reporters.

President Donald Trump (C), flanked by his sons Eric Trump (R) and Donald Trump Jr. (L) cuts the ribbon on the first tee to officially open the Trump International Golf Links course in Balmedie, Aberdeenshire, north east Scotland on July 29, 2025.

He confirmed that the rumors were on his radar, adding, "Yeah, they told me about it. We'll see."

USA TODAY has reached out to the Trump Organization, where Donald Trump Jr. serves as executive vice president, for comment.

The original business competition series, which aired from 2004 to 2017, followed 16 contestants vying for a job as they competed in business-related challenges to dodge Trump's catchphrase "You're fired." The show helped boost Trump to celebrity status long before he even considered running for office.

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — Streaming provider Prime Video is diving into college sports by partnering with one of college basketball's biggest brands: Duke.

Amazon and Duke announced Thursday they had reached a multiyear agreement to broadcast three of the Blue Devils' neutral-site nonconference matchups per season. This marks the first college partnership for Prime Video, which has aired NFL and NBA games among other sports.

This fall's broadcasts include a Nov. 25 matchup between Duke and UConn in Las Vegas, a rematch of the Huskies' comeback from 19 down to win on a last-second shot in the NCAA Elite Eight. Next is a Dec. 21 matchup against reigning NCAA champion Michigan in New York's Madison Square Garden. Finally, Duke will face Gonzaga on Feb. 20 in Detroit.

“Duke basketball games transcend the schedule," said Charlie Neiman, Prime Video's head of sports partnerships, "and the creation of this all-new offering gives fans more of what we all want, marquee matchups featuring the most successful programs in the nation.”

In its release, Duke said the Blue Devils have also agreed to participate in additional events owned and operated by ESPN across the 2027-28 and 2028-29 seasons “in exchange for the flexibility” to schedule the Prime Video events. Those come as part of ESPN's partnership with Duke's Atlantic Coast Conference home.

In a statement, Duke athletic director Nina King said the deal “expands the global reach” for the program that has won five NCAA championships.

Caroline Kennedy made a rare public appearance months after the death of her daughter Tatiana Schlossberg in December.

Kennedy attended a reception in New York honoring King Charles III and Queen Camilla's state visit.

The former U.S. ambassador was recently portrayed by Grace Gummer on the FX series Love Story.

Caroline Kennedy made a rare public appearance in New York for a good cause.

The former U.S. ambassador attended a reception for The King's Trust's Global Gala in New York on Wednesday at Christie's as part of King Charles III and Queen Camilla's state visit. According to Town & Country, Kennedy was on the list of attendees.

The event celebrated the U.K.'s cultural impact in New York, along with the work of The King's Trust, which aims to give young people the proper tools to transform their lives and start careers.

“It’s a wonderfully proud but extraordinary moment to think that it’s 50 years since I started this Trust,” King Charles said at the event, honoring the "enduring cultural bond" between the U.S. and the U.K. “Quite difficult to get it off the ground in the first place, but we did.”

PEOPLE reported that Kennedy did not pose for photos and kept a low profile at the event. Other guests at the reception included Martha Stewart, Lionel Richie, Ralph Lauren, Nina Dobrev, Karlie Kloss, Iman, Meghann Fahy, and Leo Woodall.

Kennedy's outing comes months after her daughter Tatiana Schlossberg died in December at 35. She was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia a year prior and wrote a heartbreaking essay for The New Yorker in November about her health and how her diagnosis affected her loved ones.

"For my whole life, I have tried to be good, to be a good student and a good sister and a good daughter, and to protect my mother and never make her upset or angry," she wrote. "Now I have added a new tragedy to her life, to our family’s life, and there’s nothing I can do to stop it."

Kennedy, who is known for being private, was recently portrayed by Grace Gummer in the FX series Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette, which dramatized her late brother and sister-in-law's relationship. Her son Jack Schlossberg had been critical of the show when it premiered, calling it a "grotesque display."

Weeks later during an interview with Katie Couric, he did address people who enjoyed Love Story. "I want to be clear that [I have] no problem with anyone who liked the show or watched it. I'm glad my uncle John was so cool. It's not surprising that people, once they remember who he was, want to dress like him and be like him," Schlossberg said.

"He was awesome. He was a smart, attractive person who cared about politics and tried to blend politics and media in his time, just like I'm trying to do right now with social media and politics and our campaign," Schlossberg continued, referring to his own congressional run. "So, no issue with anyone who liked the show and watched it."

Schlossberg noted that he did take issue with viewers who sensationalized the Kennedy family without noting their dedication to public service.

He also told Couric about showing Kennedy a clip of her depiction on the show and her unexpected reaction. "I showed her a clip of of her and we were laughing so hard," Schlossberg admitted.

Though he couldn't remember the exact scene, he said "[Gummer, portraying Kennedy] was freaking out and we're just laughing so hard as if that that's how my mom acts. People [need to] keep in mind it might be entertaining, but it's fiction."
