Caroline Kennedy made a rare public appearance months after the death of her daughter Tatiana Schlossberg in December.

Kennedy attended a reception in New York honoring King Charles III and Queen Camilla's state visit.

The former U.S. ambassador was recently portrayed by Grace Gummer on the FX series Love Story.

Caroline Kennedy made a rare public appearance in New York for a good cause.

The former U.S. ambassador attended a reception for The King's Trust's Global Gala in New York on Wednesday at Christie's as part of King Charles III and Queen Camilla's state visit. According to Town & Country, Kennedy was on the list of attendees.

The event celebrated the U.K.'s cultural impact in New York, along with the work of The King's Trust, which aims to give young people the proper tools to transform their lives and start careers.

“It’s a wonderfully proud but extraordinary moment to think that it’s 50 years since I started this Trust,” King Charles said at the event, honoring the "enduring cultural bond" between the U.S. and the U.K. “Quite difficult to get it off the ground in the first place, but we did.”

PEOPLE reported that Kennedy did not pose for photos and kept a low profile at the event. Other guests at the reception included Martha Stewart, Lionel Richie, Ralph Lauren, Nina Dobrev, Karlie Kloss, Iman, Meghann Fahy, and Leo Woodall.

Kennedy's outing comes months after her daughter Tatiana Schlossberg died in December at 35. She was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia a year prior and wrote a heartbreaking essay for The New Yorker in November about her health and how her diagnosis affected her loved ones.

"For my whole life, I have tried to be good, to be a good student and a good sister and a good daughter, and to protect my mother and never make her upset or angry," she wrote. "Now I have added a new tragedy to her life, to our family’s life, and there’s nothing I can do to stop it."

Kennedy, who is known for being private, was recently portrayed by Grace Gummer in the FX series Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette, which dramatized her late brother and sister-in-law's relationship. Her son Jack Schlossberg had been critical of the show when it premiered, calling it a "grotesque display."

Weeks later during an interview with Katie Couric, he did address people who enjoyed Love Story. "I want to be clear that [I have] no problem with anyone who liked the show or watched it. I'm glad my uncle John was so cool. It's not surprising that people, once they remember who he was, want to dress like him and be like him," Schlossberg said.

"He was awesome. He was a smart, attractive person who cared about politics and tried to blend politics and media in his time, just like I'm trying to do right now with social media and politics and our campaign," Schlossberg continued, referring to his own congressional run. "So, no issue with anyone who liked the show and watched it."

Schlossberg noted that he did take issue with viewers who sensationalized the Kennedy family without noting their dedication to public service.

He also told Couric about showing Kennedy a clip of her depiction on the show and her unexpected reaction. "I showed her a clip of of her and we were laughing so hard," Schlossberg admitted.

Though he couldn't remember the exact scene, he said "[Gummer, portraying Kennedy] was freaking out and we're just laughing so hard as if that that's how my mom acts. People [need to] keep in mind it might be entertaining, but it's fiction."
