Kel Mitchell achieved enormous success early on as one of the funniest young actors on All That

During his recent appearance on Big Bro with Kid Cudi, the actor talked about what influenced his style of comedy

Mitchell told Cudi about how he has been influenced by music, film, culture, and TV as he's developed as a performer

Kel Mitchell drew influence from the different areas of his life.

Speaking with Kid Cudi on his podcast, Big Bro with Kid Cudi, a Wave Original, Mitchell talked about how everything from hip hop to classic television influenced his comedy style as a young performer.

"I was a dancer first. Hip hop was first for me in Chicago. Some of my friends, you know, they went on the wrong route and I was like, 'Well, I ain't no gangster, so I ain't gonna do that.' But then I loved break dancing and I loved b-boying. I got into graffiti, breaking, the whole thing."

Then, he found acting inspiration while watching an episode of Three's Company.

"I liked John Ritter. I used to watch Three's Company late at night. I remember I used to try to sneak and watch it because I had school in the morning. I would have my covers over the TV, because it was really small," he laughed.

"I remember it was an episode that [Ritter] did where he had to play two characters. So he had to play his cousin that was from out of town, this cowboy who seemed real country, and he had to play himself. He was playing both the characters and had the girls thinking this was a real person," he shared.

At one point in the episode, "Both girls that he was dating ended up being in the same room at the same time... and he's rolling back and forth playing the character. It just kind of blew my mind, like, 'Yo, this is crazy.'"

He remembered those skills when he got the chance to embody different characters during his All That sketch comedy days.

"When I got to Repairman and I could do all these different characters, it was just so fun to put their weirdness involved in it."

Mitchell was also influenced by all eras of comedy, from Charlie Chaplin to Bugs Bunny.

"To see the physicality, how crazy they are.... when you see all of that, I just gravitated towards it. I know this one time, I think they had somebody come on set because they were like, 'We gotta show Kel how to fall,' because they were scared [I might get hurt]."

He concluded, "I was just that kid that would try anything."
