2025 has been the year of *Wicked*! The movie adaptation, which came out at the tail end of last year, has ignited a full-on Elphaba and Glinda craze that shows no signs of abating. Halloween costumes were everywhere. The *Wicked: For Good* sequel is ready to dominate the box office upon its Nov. 21 release date. And the original stage musical, which first hit Broadway 22 years ago, is still playing to packed houses on the Great White Way.

With all this fanfare, never has there been a better time for the two beloved original stars of *Wicked*, Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth, to make triumphant returns to the stage!

Yet sometimes, timing is *not* everything. Menzel's *Redwood* — which featured the actress literally soaring in a harness on stage while singing about climbing a giant tree — never took creative flight during its underwhelming run earlier this year. And now it is Chenoweth's turn to headline a Broadway musical so undeserving of her talents.

That musical is *The Queen of Versailles.* Opening tonight at the St. James Theatre, the show is an adaption, and continuation of sorts, of the similarly titled and critically acclaimed 2012 documentary on Jackie Siegel (played here by Chenoweth), and her family's quest to build a massive and opulent home. That quest comes to a screeching halt due to the 2008 recession, as Jackie scrambles to adjust to a new lifestyle while husband David struggles to keep his timeshare empire from crumbling.

Now that tale is told... through song! And the songs are just one of many problems plaguing an identity crisis of a show that doesn't quite seem to know what it wants to be.

Much like the ill-fated *Tammy Faye* from last year, *Versailles* (directed by Michael Arden) toggles between different modus operandi — in this case, campy comedic sendup, surface level social commentary on income inequality, dark family drama, and French historical farce — and does none of them particularly well. The result often feels like tonal whiplash as the production attempts to scratch several itches without truly satisfying any.

The musical (with a book by Lindsey Ferrentino) also somehow manages to pull off the rare feat of feeling like it is speeding through huge life events at way too fast a clip (Jackie's graduation! Jackie's first wedding! Jackie's first baby! Jackie's next wedding! Jackie's half-completed mansion!), while simultaneously also feeling like the show as a whole is moving painfully slow.

This seemingly unexplainable space-time-continuum confusion is also tied into the characters themselves. Jackie's niece Jonquil (played with spunk and spirit by Tatum Grace Hopkins) shows up to live with the family after her own mom overdoses, and immediately takes offense when Jackie's daughter Victoria (Nina White) asks trivial questions about hair dye and concerts, yet then *literally seconds later* is singing giddily about the joys of owning a Juicy track suit and Motorola Razr phone — slow-burn transition be damned.

Daughter Victoria is at least given a more earned and gradual arc as a character certainly enjoying some of the traps of seemingly unlimited wealth yet also struggling with pressures from her mother and others to look the part — especially when looking the part means dropping a few pounds.

Unfortunately, Victoria is saddled with some of the lamest tunes of all, including an ode to a deceased pet ("Pavane for a Dead Lizard") and perhaps the most superficial song ever about superficiality with the no-duh anthem "Pretty Wins." Although bonus points, I suppose, for rhyming "lower lip augmentation" with "vaginal rejuvenation."

The songs packing so little punch throughout, and ranging from merely generic and forgettable to slightly embarrassing ("Keep on Thrustin'"), might be the biggest shock of all — seeing as how the music and lyrics come from yet another acclaimed *Wicked* vet: Stephen Schwartz (also the man behind such beloved titles as *Godspell* and *Pippin*).

Who would have thought a reunion between one of Broadway's most cherished voices and the man who gave her some of her most *popular* material could produce such underwhelming results?

As much work as the play does early on to explain Jackie's preoccupation with wealth, the character still feels underdrawn, never really delving into her failures as a mother beyond trying to get her daughter to lose weight. Nor is Jackie's sudden obsession with fame and being on camera ever truly explored beyond a simple throwaway line about building her "brand."

If the mission of the show was to rip away the façade of a woman clearly driven by appearances, that mission is certainly not accomplished. (I will note that costume designer Christian Cowan certainly understood *his* mission to display the star in a series of fabulously ridiculous outfits involving oversized pink feather sleeves and an assortment of sequined mini-skirts and heels. A+ work there on all fronts.)

Playing Jackie's husband David, F. Murray Abraham is something of a non-factor. The magnate character is introduced in fine, fun fashion — courtesy of a western-themed explainer song ("The Ballad of the Timeshare King") — but then mostly retreats into his office once the financial trap door opens, occasionally emerging to grumble about his fading empire and the cost of electricity. The actor was given more to work with playing mute early this year at the Irish Repertory Theatre in Beckett's "Krapp's Last Tape."

In a world in which much of Broadway is opting for minimalist stage design — for either creative or budgetary reasons — *Versailles*, like its subject, spares no expense. Dane Laffrey's sets feel appropriately busy during the construction phase of the show, with ladders, buckets, and other equipment strewn about the stage. And the final set piece (no spoilers) is truly a marvel to behold.

Unfortunately, at the middle of all that well-designed chaos is the same visual crutch that has popped up in so many Broadway shows of late — a gigantic video screen. It makes no matter that the documentary angle lends credibility to the screen as narrative device. The same could be said of *Network*. Or *Good Night, and Good Luck.* Or *Sunset Blvd*. Or *The Picture of Dorian Gray*. Or plenty of others who have gone that route. Just because you have an excuse to do it doesn't mean you should.

Even with all its flaws, there is one brief moment, right near the end, where *The Queen of Versailles* seems on the verge of doing something truly radical.

It's a situation where Jackie has both won it all yet also lost it all at the same time, and the show seems prepared to end abruptly with its protagonist forced to confront her entire life's mission that has left her at this crossroads. But the moment is fleeting, as the orchestra strikes back up, the sharp edge is dulled, the curtain falls, and audiences are left to ponder how a show so big could also say so little. **Grade: C–**

AZUMINO, Japan (AP) — In the foothills of Japan's Northern Alps, people are chasing monkeys.

Wearing bright orange vests, the humans ring bells, blow whistles and strike rocks and trees with walking sticks as they weave through bamboo and brush. Using GPS trackers, they follow the monkeys' movements and radio teammates to close in when nearby. The aim is to herd the animals back into the mountains and away from farms and homes.

About 90 kilometers (55 miles) to the south, Jigokudani Monkey Park attracts more than 200,000 visitors a year — half of them from overseas — who come to see the same species soak in the hot springs.

Beloved by tourists, Japanese macaques are hated by many locals.

The monetary damage they cause is relatively minor, compared to losses from boar, deer and crows. But the monkeys are increasingly a bother for people on farms and in neighborhoods near the mountains, breaking into homes, stealing food and ruining crops.

In 2022, Japan's Agriculture Ministry reported total crop damage from wild animals, including monkeys, at 15.6 billion yen ($100 million), with deer, wild boars and macaques causing about 70% of that damage.

Enter the Monkey Chasing Squad, about 50 paid, part-time civil servants who try to control the monkeys.

Before 2023, nearly all the monkeys in Ariake, a district of Azumino city, lived within the town, with only 1% in the mountains, said Masaya Miyake, who moved to Azumino five years ago and now leads the squad. According to the city, the macaques spend about half their time in the hills and the remainder in the villages, an improvement both Miyake and the city attribute to the group's efforts.

"We're just returning them to where they're supposed to be," said Miyake. "Naturally, the food in the village is more nutritious and tastier. They're not simply being mischievous; they're just coming down to eat."

Searching for the right method to control monkeys

Takumi Matsuda had his first experience with monkeys when they broke into his home, after he moved to Azumino with his father 10 years ago.

He now rises early to observe the monkeys, and his posts on Instagram have gained more than 60,000 followers. His photos and videos show the monkeys not as pests or pets but as wild animals.

"I want to share with as many people as possible the peaceful behavior of monkeys in their natural habitat," he told The .

One winter morning deep in the mountains, Matsuda encountered a hunter authorized to cull monkeys, which Azumino estimates at a population of about 600 in the city. Capturing monkeys is done by hunting organizations with the government's permission.

"When I asked why he killed that specific monkey, he told me it was simply because he had seen it," Matsuda said.

"He hadn't considered whether the monkey was from a group that encroached on human settlements and actually destroyed fields or attacked humans at random, or one that stayed deep in the forest."

That made Matsuda question the city's approach. "In Japan today, opinions have become polarized between 'don't kill a single one' and 'kill them all,'" he said. "I oppose the wasteful taking of life and want effective measures so we don't have to keep killing monkeys forever."

'Culling could make the problem worse'

The Monkey Chasing Squad patrols the hills year-round. Despite the group's efforts to keep the monkeys away from human settlements, calls to cull large numbers of monkeys are growing.

"A quick, painless death by someone skilled is the last kindness we can offer," said Azumino City Councilman Yoichi Tsujitani. He estimates it would take two to three years to remove macaques entirely from areas near humans.

But efforts to cull macaques may have made the problem worse, according to ecologist Shigeyuki Izumiyama of Nagano's Shinshu University. When entire troops are removed, neighboring groups move in, and shrinking troop sizes push surviving monkeys deeper into farmland.

"Part of the issue is that legislators don't have enough time and are being asked to produce quick results," said Takayo Soma, a primate researcher at Kyoto University. "But ecology doesn't work that way. Macaques live about 20 years, so we need to take a long-term approach."

More clashes between humans and monkeys are likely

Michael Johnson, a retired English professor who has lived in Azumino since 2011, said that monkeys have broken into his house four times. A 2021 raid by 12 monkeys resulted in a five-hour cleanup after they feasted on eggs, bread, grains, fruit and almost everything else in sight.

"They didn't get into the bourbon," Johnson joked.

"I stopped going to City Hall," he said, referring to local efforts to deal with the monkeys with free rocket fireworks and one-month air gun rentals. "What's the point? I think my slingshot is better, though they're smart enough to stay out of range."

The species was granted protective status in 1947 to rebuild its population after widespread killing during World War II.

Izumiyama, the Shinshu University professor, advocates clearing vegetation near farms, pinpointing the location of monkeys with GPS collars using an antenna and smartphone decibel meter, as the monkey chasers do, and installing electric fences.

Kazuo Matsuda, an apple farmer who installed electric fences on his property, said the fences keep monkeys from coming down the mountain and into his orchard but are expensive to maintain.

Retired teacher Shigeru Maruyama, a member of the Monkey Chase Squad who also grows apples and blueberries, said dogs are better than people at chasing them away.

"When people chase them, the monkeys just taunt us, like 'Come on, try me,'" said Takahiro Isomoto, who has trained dogs to ward off monkeys, bears, boars and deer.

At a forest shrine, Miyaki's squad took a short break. Within minutes of being chased away, the monkeys returned to the shrine roof to watch the humans below.

"Now it's almost the opposite — like we're the squad that doesn't chase monkeys," the squad leader quipped.

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — When Merat Behnam first gathered enough courage to ride her yellow scooter through the gridlocked streets of Iran 's capital to the coffee shop she runs, traffic wasn't her main worry.

She instead girded herself for disapproving looks, verbal abuse and even being stopped by the police for being a women riding a motorbike in Tehran, something long frowned upon by hard-liners and conservative clerics in Iran.

But Behnam, 38, found herself broadly accepted on the road — and part of a wider reconsideration by women about societal expectations in Iran.

It's not all encompassing, particularly as hard-line politicians call for laws on the hijab or headscarf to be enforced as Iran cracks down on intellectuals in the wake of the 12-day Iran-Israel war in June — but it does represent a change.

"It was a big deal for me," Behnam told The after riding up to her café on a recent day. "I didn't really know how to go about it. In the beginning I was quite stressed, but gradually the way people treated me and their reactions encouraged me a lot."

'Exposed to the wind'

Two things in the past prevented women from driving motorbikes or scooters. First of all, police regulations in Iran's Farsi language specifically refer to only "mardan" or "men" being able to obtain motorcycle licenses. It's a very gender-specific wording in Farsi, which broadly is a gender-neutral language grammatically.

"This issue is not a violation but a crime, and my colleagues will deal with these individuals, since none of these women currently have a driver's license and we cannot act against the law," Gen. Abulfazl Mousavipoor, Tehran's traffic police chief, said in a report carried by the semiofficial ISNA news agency in September.

Then there's the cultural aspect. While women can now hold jobs, political office and a car license, since its 1979 Islamic Revolution the country has imposed a strictly conservative, Shiite Islam understanding of conduct by women. That includes Iran's mandatory hijab law, which sparked mass demonstrations in 2022 after the death of Mahsa Amini, who had allegedly been detained over not wearing a headscarf to the liking of authorities.

In the beliefs of some conservative clerics and hard-liners, a woman riding a scooter or a motorbike is "tabarruj," or an excessive flaunting of her beauty prohibited by Islam.

"Keeping proper covering for women while riding a motorcycle is very important," hard-line lawmaker Mohammad Seraj told the semiofficial ILNA news agency in September. "A woman sitting on a motorcycle cannot maintain the modest attire expected of her, since both of her hands are occupied with steering the vehicle and she is exposed to the wind."

Avoiding congestion charges

For many, the motorbike ban runs directly into the reality of Tehran's streets, crowded with an estimated over 4 million cars and another 4 million motorcycles on the road daily. For decades, women in the all-encompassing black chador could be seen riding side-saddle on motorbikes driven by men.

But after women began forgoing the hijab, more women began taking the risk and riding their motorbikes through Tehran as well, avoiding the congestion charges levied on cars that run over 20 million rial ($20) a month. While still a small percentage of the overall traffic, their presence on the road has become more common.

"There is not any political manifesto or social agenda here," Behnam said. "It's just that since my workplace is downtown and I had to commute every day from (the western neighborhood of) Sattarkhan, the traffic there — and the parking issue, plus the traffic zone restrictions — were driving me crazy."

'Symbol of choice and independence'

But for others, it is a political issue. There's been speculation the administration of reformist President Masoud Pezeshkian, who campaigned on openness to the West before the war, may try to change the regulations to allow women to be licensed. Reformists — those who seek to change Iran's theocracy from within — also have called for the change.

"It's time to move past the invisible walls of cultural judgment and bureaucratic rules," the Shargh newspaper said in September. "For women, riding a motorcycle is not just a way to commute but a symbol of choice, independence and equal presence in society."

Benham, says riding her motorbike also gave her the first positive interaction she's had with the police.

"For the first time, a police officer — well, actually, a traffic officer — made me feel encouraged and safer. I could feel that there was some kind of support," she said. "Even the times they gave me warnings, they were technical ones — like where to park, not to do certain things or to always wear a helmet."

It seems insane that anyone would buy a 40-year-old woman pretending to be 26 to land an entry-level job at a big New York publishing house… because it *is *insane. And that's part of *Younger*'s charm.

Created by Darren Star, the series took that premise and turned it into a warm, funny, occasionally wacky romantic comedy for seven seasons — a record for a TV Land original.

The reason *Younger* worked as well as it did (until the seventh season, which is best left unacknowledged) is largely due to the chemistry of the cast. If you're missing the magic and mayhem that orbited around Empirical Publishing, you're not alone.

That's exactly why ** is checking in with the *Younger* cast. Here's what the stars have been up to since the beloved series ended in 2021.

Sutton Foster (Liza Miller)

Younger Season 3, Episode 1 Sept. 28, 2016; Sutton Foster attends the 2025 Drama League Awards at The Ziegfeld Ballroom on May 16, 2025 in New York City.

As *Younger*'s heroine Liza Miller, Broadway icon Sutton Foster had a tricky line to toe: The audience needs to believe she can pull off lying to nearly everyone in her life while, at 40 years old, she takes a publishing job under the guise of being 26.

She also needs to be likeable enough that we're rooting for her success both professionally and personally. Foster's charisma and knack for goofy physical comedy were essential in pulling that off.

"I was just so proud to be part of such a hopeful, optimistic show with so many incredible people," Foster told EW in 2021. "I'm just so thrilled that so many people have tuned in and been a part of our world."

The same charisma, humor, and commitment to the bit helped Foster make a big impression on Broadway as the title character in *Thoroughly Modern Millie *(2002). The role won her a Tony and made her a household name after years of working on and off Broadway in various productions.

Since then, the Georgia native has been nominated for six more Tonys — including for *The Drowsy Chaperone*, *Shrek the Musical*, and the musical adaptation of *Little Women*. She took home the prize a second time for her role as Reno Sweeney in the 2011 revival of* Anything Goes*.

Foster soon transitioned into a TV career, starring in Amy Sherman-Palladino's short-lived small-town ballet dramedy* Bunheads* (2012–2013). Before that, her only substantial small-screen role was a brief run on *Flight of the Conchords *(2007).

Since *Younger* ended in 2019, Foster has returned to the stage, most notably in *The Music Man* alongside Hugh Jackman*.*

Foster has one daughter with ex-husband Ted Griffin, whom she divorced in 2024. She has since gone public with her relationship with Jackman.

Hilary Duff (Kelsey Peters)

As Kelsey, Hilary Duff helps Liza *come clean* about her double life, and though it takes a while, eventually the rift between them is, like, *so yesterday*. And in the end, Kelsey lands a true win: She gets to grow her own digital publishing company alongside Reese Witherspoon's Hello Sunshine. That is *what dreams are made of*.

Okay, a lot of that was song lyrics from Duff's pop star days, but it *does *explain a lot about Liza and Kelsey.

Of course, Duff is best known for her starring role on *Lizzie McGuire* (2001–2004), which helped launch her to teen pop stardom. Her signature character also got a feature film in 2003. Years later, the series was set for a revival, but it was abruptly canceled due to creative differences.

The Disney Channel hit led to a string of big-screen roles for the rising star. Duff appeared alongside Frankie Muniz in *Agent Cody Banks *(2003) and was part of Steve Martin's giant family in *Cheaper by the Dozen *(2003).

She also headlined *A Cinderella Story *(2003), *Raise Your Voice *(2004), *The Perfect Man *(2005), and *Material Girls *(2006) — alongside sister Haylie — before graduating to more adult fare in the military-industrial satire *War, Inc. *(2008) with John Cusack.

The born-and-bred Texan has continued her recording career, with five studio albums under her belt. More recently, she took the lead role in *How I Met Your Father *(2022–2023), which was canceled before it could reveal the answer.

Duff has one son with her first husband, former NHL player Mike Comrie. She married musician and producer Matthew Koma in 2019. The couple has three daughters together.

Peter Hermann (Charles Brooks)

As very tall book publisher Charles, Peter Hermann won Liza's heart after several seasons of growing sexual tension. While the relationship ultimately didn't work out, he leaves his family's publishing empire for her to run while he attempts more creative pursuits.

Hermann kicked off his career with a bit part on the soap opera *Guiding Light* (1997–1998), but is perhaps best known for recurring roles on *Law & Order: Special Victims Unit* (2002–2022) and *Blue Bloods *(2012–2014). He's been a regular guest star elsewhere for decades, making appearances in everything from *30 Rock *(2007) to *White Collar *(2012).

On the big screen, the Yale grad has landed supporting roles in Paul Greengrass' *United 93 *(2006) and the Clint Eastwood/Amy Adams baseball drama *Trouble With the Curve *(2012). He was most recently seen as one of Carrie Bradshaw's suitors on *And Just Like That…*

Hermann met Mariska Hargitay after joining the cast of *SVU*. The two married in 2004 and have three children.

Nico Tortorella's Josh was known for his tattoos and his ability to make Liza swoon. Much to the relief of Team Josh, the series finale points to Liza rekindling things with her much younger ex.

*Younger* is Tortorella's most notable role so far, though many may remember him from *Scream 4 *(2011) and the first season of Kevin Williamson's serial killer series *The Following *(2013), starring Kevin Bacon.

Since *Younger*, Tortorella has popped up as a judge on *RuPaul's Drag Race* and a competitor on the celebrity edition, as well as a member of the main cast in *The Walking Dead: World Beyond* (2020–2021).

Tortorella and longtime partner Bethany C. Meyers married in 2018 and have two children together.

As Diana — Liza's blunt, snarky boss with the most enviable collection of statement jewelry on television — Miriam Shor stole every scene she was in.

Shor kicked off her career on stage, making a name for herself as Yitzhak in John Cameron Mitchell's hit musical *Hedwig and the Angry Inch* in 1998. She reprised the role in the 2001 film adaptation, but soon moved to television, landing on *The West Wing* (2005), *Damages* (2007–2010), and *The Good Wife *(2012–2015).

The veteran actress appeared in Todd Haynes' Emmy-winning miniseries adaptation of *Mildred Pierce *(2011) and booked a key role in the final season of* The Americans *(2018). In recent years, she's been spotted in *Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 *(2023) as well as Oscar darlings *Maestro* (2023) and *American Fiction *(2023).

Shor recently returned to television in Vince Gilligan's highly anticipated sci-fi series* Pluribus*, alongside Rhea Seehorn.

She has been married to Justin Hagan since 2009, and they share two children.

Debi Mazar (Maggie Amato)

Liza simply would not survive without her best friend and roommate Maggie, and *Younger *was a better show for having an honest outsider's perspective on Liza's shenanigans. Maggie certainly never held back.

That no-nonsense attitude seems to come naturally for Debi Mazar, who has made a name for herself as a character actress going back decades. She first rose to showbiz prominence as a makeup artist for her friend Madonna.

From there, the native New Yorker found a niche with quintessential New York filmmakers. Her movie debut was as Henry Hill's mistress in *Goodfellas* (1990), and she went on to appear in Spike Lee's *Jungle Fever *(1991) and *Malcolm X *(1992), as well as Woody Allen's *Bullets Over Broadway* (1994).

During that stretch, she landed two interconnected series regular gigs — first on *Civil Wars *(1991–1993), then reprising the character on the final season of *L.A. Law *(1993–1994).

After popping up in *Batman Forever* (1995), *Empire Records* (1995), and *The Insider *(1999), Mazar found a semi-permanent home as Vincent Chase's publicist on *Entourage *(2004–2011). In 2009, she took a spin on the dance floor as a contestant on *Dancing With the Stars*.

Over the last few years, Mazar has been everywhere: a guest judge on *World's Worst Cooks*, a celebrity panelist on *Match Game*, and as Medusa in the mythical, Jeff Goldblum-led comedy *Kaos *(2024).

In 2011, Mazar turned her love of cooking into a full-time gig when she and her husband Gabriele Corcos started their Cooking Channel series, *Extra Virgin*. It yielded two cookbooks and a spinoff, *Extra Virgin Americana*.

Mazar and Corcos have been married since 2002 and have two daughters together.

Molly Bernard (Lauren Heller)

Molly Bernard found her breakout role on *Younger* as Kelsey's up-for-anything, PR maven best friend Lauren.

"[Lauren's] just a weird, bright light — a strange, neon light," the actress told EW in 2021. "I think that a neon light is sometimes going to make your life a lot more interesting than an incandescent one. She's given me that kind of confidence too. I want to just bottle that [attitude] up, put it into fairy dust, and give it to all."

While *Younger* became her primary gig for several years, the actress also made a splash as the younger version of Judith Light's character on *Transparent* (2016–2017), booked a recurring role on *Chicago Med* (2018–2020), and landed bit parts in *The Intern *(2015) and *Sully *(2016).

After *Younger* ended, Bernard made an appearance as Glen Powell's ex-wife in Richard Linklater's *Hit Man *(2023). She also made her Broadway debut in 2024 in the ensemble of Leslye Headland's *Cult of Love*, sharing the stage with Shailene Woodley, Zachary Quinto, and Mare Winningham.

Bernard married Hannah Lieberman in 2021, and the couple had a daughter in 2023.

Phoebe Dynevor (Clare)

She might be the Diamond of the First Water, Daphne Bridgerton, but before that, Phoebe Dynevor was known to *Younger* fans as Clare, Josh's Irish baby mama.

Dynevor's character joined the party in season 4, and while her relationship with Josh ultimately doesn't pan out — even with that big trip to Ireland — it obviously changes Josh's life forever.

The Manchester native began acting as a teenager, appearing in various U.K. series, including *Waterloo Road* (2009–2010) and *Dickensian *(2015–2016)*, *a murder mystery featuring a whole smattering of Charles Dickens characters.

By 2020, she nabbed the part of Daphne in *Bridgerton* (2020–2022), then made the jump to film, earning acclaim in the high-finance relationship thriller *Fair Play *(2023) opposite Alden Ehrenreich. She headlined the globetrotting tech thriller *Inheritance *(2025) before going head-to-head with Diane Lane in *Anniversary *(2025), alongside Dylan O'Brien, Kyle Chandler, and Zoey Deutch.

She'll soon appear in a M. Night Shyamalan/Nicholas Sparks supernatural romantic thriller (you read that right), *Remain*, set for 2026, per Deadline.

The English actress got engaged to Cameron Fuller in 2024.

Charles Michael Davis (Zane Anders)

Though he didn't pop up in *Younger* world until season 4, Charles Michael Davis made a quick impact as Zane, an ambitious editor from a rival publishing house who ends up in bed with Kelsey.

While he made an impression as Zane, Davis is perhaps better known as Marcel, leader of the vampires roaming around the French Quarter in the *Vampire Diaries* spinoff, *The Originals* (2013–2018).

Between those two main roles, the Ohio native found time for other small-screen work, appearing in a handful of episodes of *Grey's Anatomy *(2013) as well as *Chicago P.D.* (2019) and* For the People* (2019). He later joined the cast of *NCIS: New Orleans* (2020–2021).

After playing "Hangman" in *Top Gun: Maverick* and *Hit Man* in last year's Netflix action-comedy, now Glen Powell is playing *The Running Man*, directed by Edgar Wright and based on Stephen King novel of the same name.

Also in theaters, the Four Horsemen are back, now teaming up with three young illusionists for *Now You See Me: Now You Don't*. On streaming, brothers Kevin, Joe, and Nick are struggling to get from London to New York (not because of the government shutdown) to spend the holidays with their family in *A Very Jonas Christmas*.

On TV, Billy Bob Thornton is back for a new season of *Landman*, Mel Owens proposes (or does he?) on the season finale of *The Golden Bachelor*, and the fall finales of *9-1-1*, *9-1-1: Nashville*, and *Grey's Anatomy* turn up the drama...and end on some cliffhangers.

On the November, 11, 2025 episode of Days of Our Lives, longtime fan favorite Alison Sweeney returned to Salem as Sami Brady, and she had surprising and unexpected news to share with her family.

At the Brady pub, Sami's plans to visit her father, Roman (Josh Taylor), took an unexpected turn when she ran into her ex-husband, Lucas Horton (Bryan Dattilo). Lucas, who recently kidnapped Sami and framed her other ex-husband E.J. during a past storyline, apologized for his actions. Sami explained that they could never be best friends again, but she forgives him. During their conversation Lucas noticed the engagement ring on her finger and wished her happiness.

Later, Sami visits another ex-husband, E.J. DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel). During their tense reunion, Sami revealed she's engaged to a man named Dante Vitali, prompting E.J. to exclaim, "Are you out of your bloody mind?"

Sami was taken aback by his reaction. E.J. explained that she should have expected a strong response when announcing "you're getting engaged to a Vitali," he said. "Their mobsters for God sake."

Sami defended her fiancé insisting that Dante has "no part in that" side of the family. She explained how "His family stays in Italy," and shared that Dante "doesn't know anything about his cousins that stay in Pennsylvania."

E.J. reminded his ex-wife of the ties the Vitali have to her family, "do I need to remind you that Ava Vitali's son raped your daughter." Sami counters that "Dante has nothing to do with that or Ava and he hasn't even met her."

EJ believes that Sami is doing the stunt to prove that she has "moved on" from their relationship but Sami explains to him that when "Dante gave me this ring you were the furthest thing from my mind. Don't look now, your jealousy is showing."

When E.J. ask Sami about the wedding date, Sami admitted they haven't set a date yet. Smirking E.J. replies, Ten to one you don't make it down the aisle."

Who Will Play Dante Vitali?

Peacock has not yet confirmed whether viewers will meet Dante Vitali on-screen or who will play him.

When Will Dante Vitali Appear on Days of Our Lives?

So far, Dante has only been mentioned off-screen, and it's unclear if he'll appear in future episodes.

Fans can catch Sami's latest storyline weekdays on Days of Our Lives, streaming exclusively on Peacock.
