*The Murder of Rachel Nickell* has viewers gripped. Netflix's latest true-crime documentary revisits the shocking 1992 murder of 23-year-old Nickell in London, and the frustrating investigation that resulted in the arrest of an innocent man and delayed bringing her actual killer to justice for over a decade.

As recounted in the Netflix doc, the circumstances around Nickell's murder are profoundly devastating. On the morning of July 15, 1992, Nickell was walking her dog with her 2-year-old son, Alex Hanscombe, on Wimbledon Common when she was attacked by an unknown assailant. Nickell, who was stabbed 49 times and sexually assaulted, died at the scene. A passerby discovered Alex, who was mercifully unharmed, holding on to his mother's body.

Nickell's partner, André Hanscombe, was working as a courier at the time of her killing. In *The Murder of Rachel Nickell*, Hanscombe recalls stopping on his route to phone their home and check on his family. "A man's voice answered the phone and my blood ran cold," says Hanscombe. "I just knew immediately that something was seriously wrong."

It took police 16 years to identify and convict Robert Napper, the man responsible for killing Nickell — and others. Here is what you need to know about Napper and where he is now.

Who is Robert Napper?

Per *The Guardian*, Napper was born in 1966 and raised in Plumstead, not far from where Nickell and Hanscombe lived at the time of her murder. Napper experienced significant trauma as a child, having witnessed his father abusing his mother, Pauline Lasham. When his parents divorced, Napper and his three siblings were placed in foster care and received psychiatric treatment. According to *The Telegraph*, Napper was diagnosed with a "highly toxic mixture" of paranoid schizophrenia and Asperger's syndrome.

At the age of 12, Napper claimed he was sexually abused by a family friend. After the incident, Lasham claimed that Napper's personality changed in several ways: he grew introverted, became aggressive with his brothers (he allegedly shot one of them in the face with an airsoft gun), and spied on his sister while she was undressing. He had his first run-in with the law in 1986, when a 19-year-old Napper was fined for carrying a loaded gun in public.

Just three years later, in 1989, police received a call from a 31-year-old woman who reported being sexually assaulted in her home near Plumstead Common while her children were present. According to *The Guardian*'s reporting, this was the first in a series of assaults known as the Green Chain Rapes, named for the walking area along which they occurred. Three women were assaulted over a period of two months leading up to the murder of Nickell.

Also in 1989, Lasham called police to report that Napper had confessed to sexually assaulting a woman on Plumstead Common. Police could find no reports of recent assaults in the area, so they never followed up. "I told them my son had raped a woman but they said there’d been no rape and that he must have made it up," Lasham told *The Mirror** *in 2008. "Now I know it was missed and that he went on to murder. I can’t believe they let him slip through their fingers. I feel so sorry."

In 1992, after the Green Chain attacks began, a police inquiry identified 86 women who were attacked in a similar fashion. Over the course of the inquiry, Nickell was murdered and investigators received calls from two different citizens reporting that Napper resembled a police sketch of the suspect in the Green Chain case. Both times, police attempted to make contact with Napper to obtain a blood sample, but he failed to appear at the local station. Police ultimately dismissed Napper as a suspect because he was taller than the description they had been given.

That October, Napper was arrested on suspected stalking charges and a search of his home turned up numerous weapons, including two knives and a .22 caliber pistol, along with conspicuous maps and handwritten notes, including profane descriptions of women.

Napper pleaded guilty to possessing a firearm and ammunition, and a psychiatric report submitted during the hearing described him as "without doubt an immediate threat to himself and the public." Despite the evidence, Napper was sentenced to just eight weeks in custody, and police did not investigate him any further.

Who is Colin Stagg?

Investigators interviewed over 30 men about Nickell's murder before settling on Colin Stagg, a local man who walked his dog on Wimbledon Common, as Nickell often did. He became their prime suspect despite a total lack of forensic evidence.

Police conducted a controversial sting operation involving an undercover policewoman, who contacted Stagg through a personals ad and tried to bait him into confessing to Nickell’s murder by posing as a romantic interest.

As detailed in *The Murder of Rachel Nickell*, the undercover officer said to Stagg, "If only you had done the Wimbledon Common murder, if only you had killed her, it would be all right," to which Stagg replied, "I'm terribly sorry, but I haven't."

Though he never confessed to Nickell's murder, Stagg was arrested in 1993. He spent 13 months behind bars before a judge threw out his case, citing the "honey trap" sting operation and "deception of the grossest kind." In the Netflix documentary, Stagg recalls how he continued to face accusations and suspicion for several years after his exoneration. "It dragged on for about 15 years," he says. "From when I was arrested, there were articles in the newspapers stirring people's emotions about me. People shouting out stuff like, 'Guilty! Hang him!' Stuff like that."

While Stagg was in custody, another young mother was assaulted and killed in Plumstead. Twenty-seven-year-old Samantha Bisset and her 4-year-old daughter Jazmine were brutally murdered in their home.

How was Robert Napper caught?

Six months after Bisset and her daughter were murdered, police matched Napper's fingerprints and a shoe print to the scene of the crime. Napper was arrested and charged with the murders, which he confessed to in 1995, along with one assault and two attempted assaults in the Green Chain area. As *The Herald* reported at the time, Napper admitted only to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility due to his psychiatric diagnoses.

Nickell's case was subsequently reopened in 2002, and Napper was finally identified as the killer thanks to advances in forensics. Using DNA from the scene of the Bisset murders, police were able to link Napper to the killing of Nickell. Napper, meanwhile, was already serving an indefinite sentence at Broadmoor, a high-security psychiatric hospital.

Police summoned Hanscombe to meet with them ahead of Napper's trial. In the Netflix doc, Hanscombe recalls being handed the dossier on Nickell, which he describes as an "utter, chaotic catalog of errors."

"It was absolutely devastating," says Hanscombe, noting that Nickell's murder, as well as those of Bisset and her young daughter, were "all preventable."

Where is Robert Napper now?

Napper was charged with Nickell's murder in 2008. As with the previous charges related to Bisset and the Green Chain attacks, Napper pleaded guilty to manslaughter — and not murder — on the grounds of diminished responsibility.

In 2010, the BBC reported that the Metropolitan Police admitted "that more could, and should have been done, and had more been done we could have been in a better position to have prevented very serious attacks by Napper." The Independent Police Complaints Commission additionally found that "police failed to sufficiently investigate" multiple tips related to Napper over the years.

IPCC Commissioner Rachel Cerfontyne called the police's errors "dreadful" and said, "Without these errors, Robert Napper could have been off the streets before he killed Rachel Nickell and the Bissets, and before numerous women suffered violent sexual attacks at his hands."

Napper was ordered to serve another indefinite sentence at Broadmoor for the murder of Nickell. During the sentencing, per *The Guardian*, defense attorney David Fisher said Napper was "highly unlikely ever to be released from detention."

Almost thirty years after they starred in the cult classic *Romy and Michele's High School Reunion*, the duo has reunited to start production on the long-awaited sequel, which will head straight to Hulu.

On Monday, 20th Century Studios shared the below first look at Kudrow and Sorvino back in costume, along with the caption, "The reunion you’ve been waiting for."

Directed by Tim Federle (*High School Musical: The Musical: The Series*) and penned by original screenwriter Robin Schiff, the sequel will also return Janeane Garofalo, Camryn Manheim, Julia Campbell, and Alan Cumming. New cast additions include Keegan-Michael Key, Rob Huebel, Breckin Meyer, Patrick Warburton, and Nathan Lee Graham.

Released in 1997, *High School Reunion* followed best friends Romy (Sorvino) and Michele (Kudrow), whose lives haven't exactly flourished in the 10 years since graduating high school. But the quirky pals decide to head back to Tucson, Ariz., for their reunion and invent fake careers to impress their former classmates.

The film earned solid reviews and $30 million at the box office, but its legacy only grew over time. "It was just so clever and witty," Cumming told ** last year. "It's one of these films that some people are obsessed with."

Alan Cumming says 'Romy and Michele' would have sequels if it starred men

For years, there have been rumors of a *Romy and Michele* follow-up, and Cumming previously ripped the fact that a sequel still hadn't come to fruition.

"I think the fact that there hasn't been is a really big example of the misogyny of Hollywood," he said. "If it was two men in that — you know, two men, successful film — we would've had six by now."

Once the new film gained steam, Cumming teased what was to come.

"I think what's great about the sequel to Romy and Michele is just going back to something that is so beloved and having a relationship with these characters," he shared with EW. "I actually know what the story is, and it's really good. So I'm excited."

The epic multi-episode crossover between CBS' primetime dramas Beyond the Gates and The Young and the Restless begins Tuesday, June 9, and the storyline promises shocking twists and turns that will have long-lasting effects on all involved

Speaking with PEOPLE ahead of the "landmark" event, Beyond the Gates stars Brandon Claybon (Martin Richardson) and Clifton Davis (Vernon Dupree) tease what viewers can expect from the crossover

The mighty Dupree family and the residents of Fairmont Crest are about to get their worlds turned upside down by special visitors from Genoa City.

The epic crossover between Beyond the Gatesand The Young and the Restless, which was first announced back in January, officially kicks off on Tuesday, June 9, and breakout star Brandon Claybon, who portrays Martin Richardson on the newest CBS drama, promises there's a lot of drama in store for the Dupree family. "There's going to be some chaos. I can tell you that," Claybon tells PEOPLE. "But, it's going to be so fun. "

Echoing his sentiments, Clifton Davis, who stars as the family patriarch Vernon Dupree, describes the crossover as "good TV," adding he's "thrilled to be a part of it."

"Expect to see those traditionally great performances by the folks of The Young and the Restless," says Davis, 80. "They came to us, and we had a ball."

The multi-episode crossover will see Y&R stars Eric Braeden (Victor Newman), Peter Bergman (Jack Abbott), Bryton James (Devon Hamilton), Michael Mealor (Kyle Abbott), Susan Walters (Diane Jenkins) and Melissa Ordway (Abby Newman) leave Genoa City to spend some time in the exclusive Maryland suburbs to attend the high-profile fundraiser for Martin's political campaign. Per the official logline, "a shocking event occurs, abruptly derailing the fundraiser and triggering dramatic consequences that will impact every guest in attendance."

Reflecting on the experience filming with the Y&R cast, Claybon shares it was "so nice" working with them on set and hearing the stories of industry legends.

"We were so excited for The Young and the Restless cast to come, and they were just so nice and so sweet." Claybon says. "It was so nice meeting with them, so nice working with them and hearing their stories throughout the years, so it was great."

While the crossover didn't come as a "total surprise" to Davis since James, 39, had previously appeared on Beyond the Gates last August, the Amen alum admits he was shocked by how many of the cast members were coming over for the special event.

"When I heard all of these folks were coming over, I thought, 'Oh, my goodness, what is this storyline?'" Davis shares. "But, it's a wonderful surprise."

As for Claybon, 37, there was only one question on his mind when he first heard the crossover was coming: Is Victor Newman coming? The Zatima actor explains as soon as he found out Braeden, 85, was going to be in the major crossover event, he knew it was "going to be something incredible."

"I was like, 'I'm going to enjoy this,' " he says.

Working with the Y&R cast was truly a full circle moment for Claybon, who not only auditioned for a role on the long-running soap opera, but also grew up watching it with his grandmothers. He shares getting the chance to work with the cast on Beyond the Gates felt "amazing," adding he's so "grateful and thankful" for where his career has taken him.

"It feels amazing, especially because my grandmothers had passed on, but I know they're looking down and I know that they're proud of how far I've come and where I am, and where I'm going," Claybon says. "It's still mind-boggling for me. I still have to pinch myself because of course I know all the hard work I put in to get here, but it's not always a given and I'm so grateful and thankful."

In the episodes, Vernon convinces Victor, with whom he shares a longtime close friendship built on years of "loyalty, influence and mutual gain," to give the keynote speech for Martin's fundraiser. Teasing their on-screen dynamic, Davis says there's a level of "mutual respect" that the two powerful patriarchs share with each other, alluding to some slight tension between them.

"I think Victor and Vernon are friends," he says of their relationship. "They're friends who have helped each other in the past and you'll see that. You can see that they have mutual respect for each other. They recognize who each other is and what each other is capable of. In other words, we know each other."

"Our writers did a great job in putting a script together that had these characters relating so well and handling the situation that came about during that particular evening," Davis adds. "We respect each other and know how far each other will go."

Beyond the Gates airs weekdays at 2 p.m. ET on CBS. The Young and the Restless airs weekdays on CBS (check local listings).

Former Milwaukee Brewers Cy Young Award winner Corbin Burnes won't be back for the Arizona Diamondbacks until at least late this season after a new injury sustained as he rehabs following Tommy John surgery.

Burnes won't return until September at the earliest after suffering a teres major strain behind his right shoulder, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic said.

An MRI revealed the issue last week after he felt tightness while throwing live batting practice in Arizona, his first opportunity to throw BP since elbow surgery last year. Once healed, Burnes will have to restart his throwing progression from the beginning.

Burnes was initially targeting a return around the all-star break. He signed a six-year, $210 million deal with Arizona before last season but made only 11 starts before suffering the elbow injury. He had a 2.66 ERA and 63 strikeouts in 64 innings.

Milwaukee traded Burnes, an all-star with the Brewers three straight years from 2021 through 2023, after the 2023 season in a deal that brought back Joey Ortiz and DL Hall from Baltimore.

In his one and only season with the Orioles, Burnes was again an all-star, posting a 2.92 ERA over 32 starts with 181 strikeouts in 194 innings. Burnes won the NL Cy Young in 2021 with a 2.43 ERA, the first Brewers pitcher so honored since Pete Vuckovich in 1982. That season, he struck out 234 batters in 167 innings, and he led the National League with 243 strikeouts over his 202 innings in 2022.

Both Burnes with the Orioles and the Brewers were eliminated in the first round of the 2024 postseason.

The Diamondbacks momentarily sit in second in the National League West with a 34-31 record, 7½ games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers and a half-game ahead of the San Diego Padres in the standings.

Taylor Lautner and Tay Lautner are sharing a "secret" about their first baby.

On Sunday, June 7, the couple revealed their baby's sex in an emotional Instagram Reel that captured them learning the news for the first time.

"Our little secret is now yours," they captioned the joint post.

The video starts with Taylor, 34, and Tay, 29, sitting on a couch while looking at a laptop. They cover their eyes while they click on a prompt to reveal their baby's sex. However, there is another button for them to click.

The couple proceeds to close their eyes again while clicking the next prompt. "Oh my gosh, that's a lot of steps," Taylor says.

The website then asks them a third time. "It's asked us three times," the Twilight alum says, to which his wife replies, "They're taking very great precautions."

The couple looks at the screen while clicking the third prompt, and Taylor tells Tay, "I love you." After they click the prompt, Taylor throws his arms in the air while excitedly screaming and Tay covers her mouth. Text that reads "girl" in pink appears on the screen.

Taylor hugs his wife as she starts to cry. "We did it," he says.

The actor reflected on the news in a post to his Instagram Stories, writing, "My dream has always been to become a girl dad."

"All my puppies have been girls. Some of my best friends in the whole world are girls. My only sibling is my baby sister. I have an incredible mother," he continued. "Tay is my favorite person to ever exist and she just so happens to be a girl."

"All I wanted was a healthy baby but deep down this moment is what I was dreaming of. The weight that was lifted off my shoulders in this moment knowing that dream came true was unlike anything I've felt," the happy husband wrote. "Tay is the strongest person I know and my hero. I can't wait to welcome this baby girl into our world. Team girl!"

Taylor and Tay announced that they are expecting their first baby together on March 26.

The mom-to-be gave an update on her pregnancy journey in the May 13 episode of her podcast, The Squeeze. She said she was struggling with her body image during her second trimester.

"I've never really struggled with comparison, but I've definitely found myself comparing my pregnant body to other pregnant women, especially the women that are weeks away from giving birth and are still all skinny and fit," Tay said. "I'm already not feeling great about myself, but then the comparison aspect of it."

Taylor and Tay, who went public with their relationship in 2018, tied the knot in November 2022.

TAIPEI, June 8 (Reuters) - As AI heavyweights including Nvidia, Intel and SK Group last week championed Taiwan's significance as a crucial hub for the global supply chain, a hostile exchange with China was brewing at ‌sea.

On the final day of the high-profile Computex conference in Taipei on Friday, Taiwan's coast guard faced off against Chinese counterparts in ‌the contested South China Sea.

"Peace in the Taiwan Strait is vital to the stability of the global economy, and the lifeline of the technology industry," Taiwan's coast guard broadcast in a ​warning to a Chinese vessel near the Taiwan-controlled Pratas Islands.

Taiwan is home to TSMC, the world's largest contract chipmaker and supplier to Nvidia and Apple, and Foxconn, Nvidia's largest server maker, along with dozens more companies working across the AI hardware stack.

China views the democratically governed island as its territory, and Beijing has stepped up military pressure to assert its sovereignty claims in recent years, particularly over the past month.

During the June 2-5 Computex event, Taiwan's defence ministry reported 79 Chinese ‌warplanes operating near the island, a stark reminder about ⁠the risk to the global AI supply chain should Beijing ever make good on threats to take Taiwan by force.

On Wednesday, China's military held another "joint combat readiness patrol" around Taiwan.

China's defence ministry did not respond to a request for comment ⁠about its activities last week.

Billions of dollars are being invested in Taiwan to produce the hardware needed to power the AI revolution, but there is a potential sting in the tail, said David Feith, senior fellow at U.S. think tank the Hudson Institute and a former U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State.

"There's an enormous security threat, ​and ​it emanates from Beijing," he told Reuters on Saturday at a forum in Taipei held ​by DEST, Taiwan's National Science and Technology Council-backed think tank.

"I ‌do think that markets globally and governments, I fear, are underestimating the risk of a crisis."

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said last month the company plans to spend about $150 billion annually in Taiwan, up from roughly $10 billion to $15 billion five years ago, while AMD CEO Lisa Su, who was not in Taiwan for Computex but visited shortly before, has announced investment of more than $10 billion in Taiwan's AI industry.

Huang batted away a question about security at his news conference on Tuesday, saying the supply chain should be as "diversified and as redundant" as possible so that there can be resilience, and ‌pointed to Taiwan tech firms investing in the U.S.

"However, it doesn't change the fact ​that Taiwan is incredible at manufacturing, especially technology manufacturing," he added. "This is the epicentre of ​the ecosystem."

TAIWAN'S 'RESPONSIBLE COMMITMENT'

Taiwan President Lai Ching-te, speaking at the opening of Computex, ​was more direct.

"The government will firmly safeguard peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait and is committed to maintaining the ‌status quo," he said.

"This is an unwavering national policy, as ​well as Taiwan's most responsible commitment to ​the global technology supply chain."

Computex has a small military dimension, with several drone companies taking part.

Lai has made drones a key plank of his military modernisation programme.

Palmer Luckey - founder of U.S. drone maker Anduril Industries, which is jointly developing a missile with Taiwan - toured the show ​on Thursday, and told the official Central News Agency ‌that there are now around 30 Taiwanese companies in his firm's supply chains.

"There are things in this world that only exist because ​Taiwan is the leader in technology, and that's not something that I want to disappear," he said.

It's been more than 25 years since Joss Whedon's *Buffy the Vampire Slayer* drove its first stake — and the cult series' fandom remains as rabid as it ever was.

Across seven seasons, the supernatural drama followed Buffy Summers (Sarah Michelle Gellar), a high school student in Sunnydale, Calif., as she embraced her destiny as a Slayer of vampires, demons, and other malevolent creatures. But Buffy’s adventures wouldn’t be nearly as compelling without for the allies and adversaries she encounters along the way, from Alyson Hannigan's Willow to James Marsters' Spike and David Boreanaz's Angel.

Tragically, the last several years have seen the deaths of several key players in the Buffy-verse, including Nicholas Brendan, Michelle Trachtenberg, and Anthony Head.

Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy Summers)

As the titular Buffy, Gellar ably led her gang of monster-slayers (and heartsick teenagers) through seven seasons.**

“I’m so incredibly proud of what we all created," she told EW during our cast reunion. "Sometimes you need distance to really understand the gravitas of that. I appreciate everything about that job. As an actor, all you ever want to do is leave your mark — you want to do something that affects people.”

Gellar has been acting since age 6. After winning a Daytime Emmy in 1995, she landed pre*-Buffy *roles in enduring slashers like *I Know What You Did Last Summer* (1997)* *and* Scream 2 *(1997). She starred in several films throughout the 2000s, including the eerie feature *The Grudge* (2004), the bizarro *Southland Tales* (2006), and two *Scooby-Doo *movies (2002–2004) with her husband, actor Freddie Prinze Jr.

Since then, Gellar has focused more on television, starring in The CW's *Ringer*, CBS's *The Crazy Ones, *and Paramount+'s *Wolf Pack*. She did, however, make a cameo in the 2025 *I Know What You Did Last Summer* reboot and play a major role in *Ready or Not 2: Here I Come* (2026).

Gellar was attached to a *Buffy* reboot, *Buffy the Vampire Slayer: New Sunnydale*, at Hulu. A pilot episode was filmed, with Oscar-winning director Chloé Zhao at the helm, but Hulu ultimately axed the series in March 2026.

At the time, Gellar expressed her disappointment. “We had an executive on our show who was not only not a fan of the original, but was proud to constantly remind us that he had never seen the entirety of the series and how it wasn’t for him," she said. “So that tells you the uphill battle that we had been fighting since day one, when your executive is literally proud to tell you that he didn't watch it.”**

Nicholas Brendon (Xander Harris)

Brendon appeared as the wise-cracking Xander, Buffy's best pal and the series' most reliable source of comic relief.

Aside from Buffy, Brendon is likely best known for his stint on *Criminal Minds*, though he guested on several series (*Without a Trace, Private Practice, Faking It*) and appeared in the excellent cult sci-fi film *Coherence* (2013).

Over the years, Brendon's made headlines for his struggles with substance abuse, as well as several arrests for incidents involving alleged domestic abuse, prescription fraud, and vandalism. In 2022, he was hospitalized for a "cardiac incident." A statement released at the time noted the actor is struggling with cauda equina syndrome.

Brendon died of atherosclerotic and hypertensive cardiovascular disease on March 20, 2026, at the age of 54.

"I think as actors we talk a lot or think a lot about legacy," Gellar said of her former costar following his death. "He brought so much joy to so many people on that show, and that lives on. That's the truth."

Alyson Hannigan (Willow Rosenberg)

Hannigan played Willow, Buffy's shy friend who, after learning the ways of witchcraft, develops more confidence (and a major dark side).

“It was the role of a lifetime,” she told us during EW's 20th-anniversary cast reunion. “I met the love of my life [costar Alexis Denisof, who played timid Watcher Wesley]."

After appearing as band geek Michelle in *American Pie* (1999), Hannigan reprised the role in its three sequels. From 2005 to 2014, she starred alongside Cobie Smulders, Jason Segel, and Neil Patrick Harris in *How I Met Your Mother*, which ran for nine seasons.

Since then, she's focused primarily on voice work and hosting, though she did appear as a contestant on season 32 of *Dancing With the Stars*, landing in fifth place. One spooky dance found her paying tribute to *Buffy*.

Hannigan and Denisof have two children together.**

Charisma Carpenter (Cordelia Chase)

Though she was introduced as a mean girl, Charisma Carpenter's cheerleading Cordelia would become one of Buffy's strongest allies. Her ability to see visions of those in need also helped her develop a deep well of empathy.

After three seasons on* Buffy*, Carpenter brought Cordelia to the spinoff *Angel* for four seasons. Her other notable roles include runs on *Charmed* and *Veronica Mars*, plus guest appearances on *Blue Bloods, Sons of Anarchy*, and the *Dynasty* reboot*.* She also appeared alongside Sylvester Stallone and Jason Statham in *The Expendables* (2010) and its 2012 sequel*.*

Carpenter made headlines in 2021 when she accused *Buffy* and *Angel* showrunner Joss Whedon of fostering a "hostile and toxic" work environment on both sets. "Joss Whedon abused his power on numerous occasions while working together on the sets of *Buffy the Vampire Slayer* and *Angel*," she said. "While he found his misconduct amusing, it only served to intensify my performance anxiety, disempower me and alienate me from my peers. The disturbing incidents triggered a chronic physical condition from which I still suffer. It is with a beating, heavy heart that I say I coped in isolation and, at times, destructively."

The *Buffy* and *Angel* casts rallied behind Carpenter, and her statement made space for other stars, including Gal Gadot and Ray Fisher, to share their own horror stories about Whedon.

In 2023, she reprised Cordelia for the Audible audio drama *Slayers: A Buffyverse Story*, which also featured James Marsters and Amber Benson, among other alums.

Carpenter was previously married to Damian Hardy from 2002 to 2008. The couple has one son, who was born in 2003.**

Anthony Stewart Head (Rupert Giles)

As the posh Rupert Giles, Anthony Stewart Head was like a surrogate father figure to Buffy, Xander, and Willow. His extensive knowledge of all things supernatural also proved helpful throughout the series.

A stage and screen actor before joining *Buffy*, Head bounced between the U.K. and L.A., acting in several films (*Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance*) and series (*Little Britain, Merlin*). Recently, he appeared in Netflix's hit *Bridgerton* and all three seasons of Apple TV+'s *Ted Lasso*.

In 2007, there were talks of Head reprising Giles in a BBC special called *Ripper*, but it never came to pass.

Head died due to complications from pneumonia in June 2026 at the age of 72. He was survived by his daughters, Emily and Daisy.

David Boreanaz (Angel)

Boreanaz's Angel is one of the series' most enduring characters, eventually getting his own spinoff series. A vampire cursed with a soul, Angel is constantly reckoning with his dichotomous personality (and feelings for Buffy).

"It was all timing, really. [Angel] initially had an arc of six out of the 12 episodes. He was somebody who could be recurring and a love interest to Buffy,” the actor told EW in 2017 about his casting. “It happened so quickly, but in order for things to happen quickly when you recognize them, you have to be ready; when it hits, it’s quick. When *Buffy* hit, I was in the right spot at the right time, but I had been struggling for years just to get in the door."

Boreanaz walked right into another hit franchise after leaving the Buffyverse. Alongside Emily Deschanel, he led 12 seasons of the police procedural *Bones* on Fox. In 2017, he suited up for *SEAL Team*, a CBS military drama that wrapped in 2024.

Next up for the actor? A starring role on an upcoming *Rockford Files* reboot from NBC.

Boreanaz has two children, Jaden and Bella, with his wife,* Playboy* model Jaime Bergman.**

Seth Green (Oz)

As Oz, former child actor Seth Green got to flex his claws (and his guitar skills) as a rock-and-roll werewolf with a thing for Willow.

Green, no stranger to Hollywood, appeared in a handful of films (*Without a Paddle, Be Cool*) and series (*Entourage, Dads*) following *Buffy*, but his focus has primarily been on voice work. Since 1999, he's voiced Chris Griffin on *Family Guy* (1999–present) and its spinoffs. He's also the voice of Marvel's Howard the Duck in the *Guardians of the Galaxy *trilogy (2014–2023) and the animated series *What If...?*.

Green is also one of the architects behind Adult Swim's subversive *Robot Chicken* and its spinoffs, scoring him three Primetime Emmys.

In 2025, he competed against Rachel Brosnahan and Margaret Cho on *Celebrity Jeopardy*.**

James Marsters (Spike)

James Marsters' blood-sucking Spike is among the most beloved *Buffy* characters, if only because he's served so many roles, from villain to anti-hero to lover and back again.

After a few guest appearances, Marsters officially joined the cast of *Angel* in its fifth season. He went on to play different kinds of villains as *Smallville*'s Brainiac and *Runaways*' Victor Stein (2017–2019). He also appeared in *Torchwood* as Captain John Hart.

Along with Carpenter, he recently returned to the Buffyverse for the podcast *Slayers: A Buffyverse Story.* Most recently, he voiced Larry on the Apple TV+ series *Curses*.

He has a son, Sullivan, with his ex-wife Liane Davidson, with whom he split from in 1997. He was later married to Patricia Rahman from 2011 to 2021.**

Marc Blucas (Riley Finn)

Riley Finn, the sensitive do-gooder who romanced Buffy in seasons 4 and 5, was no one's favorite character. That, however, wasn't necessarily Marc Blucas' fault.

After all, the actor has worked steadily since leaving the series, guesting on shows like *House* and *Castle* before landing recurring roles on USA's *Necessary Roughness* and WGN's *Underground*. He's also appeared in several films, including *First Daughter* (2004), *Red State *(2011), and *Brawl in Cell Block 99* (2017).

Currently, he stars on the Netflix teen hit *My Life With the Walter Boys*.

He's married to journalist Ryan Haddon, with whom he has two daughters.

Emma Caulfield (Anya Jenkins)

Emma Caulfield Ford's Anya Jenkins was only supposed to appear in two episodes of *Buffy. *But the writers liked her character — a vengeance demon who grants the wishes of women wronged by men — so much that they kept her around through the show's final season.

Following Anya's death, Caulfield Ford shared a eulogy for the character with EW. "Throughout her incarnations, ANYA experimented with dozens of hair statements," it reads. "Never at any time did she ask for the opinions of others (nor permission from the producers). She was a renegade with her own philosophy, everyday people like you and me, come on. She was a glitter-filled rainbow, who sprinkled forever-honest fairy dust on friends and foes alike. Though she died without much fanfare (like, ‘Oh well, Anya’s dead, later!'), her courage, her legacy, her selflessness lives on. And that gives me something to sing about."

Caulfield Ford went on to appear on the CW's *Life Unexpected* and ABC's *Once Upon a Time*, as well as Marvel's *WandaVision* and its spinoff *Agatha All Along*.

In 2022, she revealed to *Vanity Fair** *that she was struggling with multiple sclerosis after keeping it a secret for more than a decade. It was an incident she experienced on the set of *WandaVision* that caused her to open up about it.

Speaking with PEOPLE in 2024, she said she had yet to experience any of the more severe symptoms of MS. "I'm very, very fortunate," she said. "But I'm also aware that, with MS, this could all change tomorrow. I'm stable — and I've made it a huge priority to do things so I stay that way."

She married Mark Leslie Ford in 2017 and welcomed a daughter that same year. She was previously married to Cornelius Grobbelaar from 2006 to 2010.**

Michelle Trachtenberg (Dawn Summers)

The late Trachtenberg played Dawn Summers, Buffy's younger sister, beginning in season 5. Though her frequent brushes with peril eventually got on fans' nerves, her story certainly had its bright points.

Trachtenberg, who starred in *Harriet the Spy *(1996)* *and *The Adventures of Pete and Pete*** **before joining *Buffy*, went on to appear in films like *EuroTrip* (2004), *Mysterious Skin* (2004), and* Ice Princess* (2005) before scoring the role of party girl Georgina Sparks on *Gossip Girl*, a role she'd reprise for the show's 2021 reboot.

In February, Trachtenberg was found "unconscious and unresponsive" in her New York apartment. Emergency services later pronounced her dead at the scene. She was 39. Since her family objected to an autopsy, the cause and manner of her death will remain "undetermined."

Her death prompted many tributes from her former *Buffy* costars. "My heart is heavy today. We have lost a beautiful soul," Marsters wrote on his Instagram. "Michelle was fiercely intelligent, howlingly funny, and a very talented person. She died much too young, and leaves behind scores of people who knew and loved her."**

Eliza Dushku (Faith Lehane)

Dushku made Buffy's life hell as Faith Lehane, a reckless slayer who takes a tumble into the dark side after serving as an uneasy ally to the heroes. Dushku's Faith later found a bit of redemption in seasons 1, 2, and 4 of *Angel.*

Dushku, a former child actor who appeared in films like *True Lies*, went on to lead a pair of series: Fox's *Tru Calling* and Whedon's *Dollhouse*, the latter of which she also produced.

On the film side, she starred in twisted horror flick *Wrong Turn* (2003), as well as *Bottle Shock* (2008), *The Alphabet Killer* (2008), and *Locked In* (2010). She'd later appear in five episodes of cult class series *Banshee* and provide the voice of She-Hulk in 52 episodes of *Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H.*

In 2018, Dushku alleged that she was molested by a stunt coordinator on the set of the 1994 film *True Lies* when she was just 12 years old. Later that year, she claimed that she was sexually harassed on the set of the CBS series *Bull*, saying in a *Boston Globe* piece that her attempts to address the harassment resulted in her being written off the show. CBS eventually paid Dushku $9.5 million in a settlement.

Dushku has been married to businessman Peter Palandjian since 2018. They have two sons.

Amber Benson (Tara Maclay)

Benson's Tara joined *Buffy* in its fourth season as a love interest for Hannigan's Willow. Her death in season 6 results in Willow's dark spiral.

After catching that stray bullet, Benson directed, produced, and starred in the films *Chance* (2002) and *Lovers, Liars & Lunatics* (2006). She guested on several TV shows, including *Supernatural*, *Private Practice*, and *Grey's Anatomy*.

She also cowrote, directed, and lent her voice to *Slayers: A Buffyverse Story,* which featured Marsters and Carpenter. In 2024, she appeared in Jane Schoenbrun's haunting *I Saw the TV Glow**.***
