Gal Gadot revealed how she found the motivation to tackle the intense physical demands of her new action-thriller, The Runner.

Speaking with Extra'sDerek Hough, Gadot said, "I was like Tom Cruise. Just think, manifest Tom Cruise to my energy and just, like, if he does it I can try and do that."

"When you do such a physical movie, you assume that at one point, something is gonna happen. So even though I channeled as hard as I could, Tom Cruise's energy, at the end, my body just needed a break," she continued.

The actress opened up about how physically demanding the shoot became.

"You just do… The running part of it is kind of like the vehicle of how we tell the story… I had to run I think almost every day of filming… but it really helped me get into the state of mind of where the character is and being out of control and exhausted and fearful and all of that," she said.

Gadot revealed the demanding production eventually took a toll on her physically.

"It was a lot. I finished the film on crutches, because there’s only so much you can take. Oh, yeah. It was go, go, go," she added.

Away from the action, Gadot and Hough also bonded over their shared love of dance.

"I was a dancer. That’s how I started. I was a dancer for 12 years. Yes, that’s my passion. At one point, I wanted to be a choreographer. You have no idea… but not like Dancing with the Stars-type… I was dancing, like, hip hop and modern and ballet and all of that," she said.

Hough encouraged her to revisit that side of herself, prompting Gadot to joke about a possible new direction.

She continued, "So, that was an interesting experience and I had such a wonderful time filming with Doug Liman and Casey Affleck andPete Davidson, and we had a lot of fun. It’s a crazy movie."

During a 2003 appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman, Reeves revealed that he wore the outfit for Halloween two years after Parton modeled it, when he was 16 in 1980.

"My mother did a thing for Dolly Parton for Playboy Magazine when Dolly Parton did the cover," he said at the time. "She was in this kind of outfit, and I wore that when I was 16."

The actor noted that he wore "the bustier" and "the ears," but traded in the heels for a more comfortable pair of shoes. "I didn't do the cuff. Or did I do the cuffs? I don't remember," Reeves recalled. "And I wore sneakers and like these fishnet things."

Reeves also spoke of wearing the outfit during a 2011 episode of The Graham Norton Show, after the host presented him with the magazine cover.

Norton asked him how he fit into an outfit that was designed for Parton's famously tiny waist. Reeves joked that "there was some room" in the front. "Did you wear that door-to-door, like trick-or-treating?" Norton asked.

The actor explained, "I didn't have the shoes, but I had the ears, I had the bow tie, and I had the top, but I didn't have the cufflinks, then it was the stockings. Parton wore the outfit again in 2021, as a surprise for her husband, Carl Dean, on his 79th birthday. "You're probably wondering why I'm dressed like this. Well, it's for my husband's birthday," she began in the video, shared to her social media.

"Remember some time back I said I was gonna pose on Playboy magazine when I'm 75? Well, I'm 75, and they don't have a magazine anymore, but my husband always loved the original cover of Playboy."

"I was trying to think of something to do to make him happy," Parton added. "He still thinks I'm a hot chick after 57 years, and I'm not gonna try to talk him out of that."

Parton addressed her connection with Reeves during a 2023 appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show. She recalled, "She [Patricia] did a lot of sewing for me, she did a lot of my clothes. But I remember Keanu when he was just little.

"And she would bring him over to my house when we were fitting, or when I would go to the shop where she worked. And one day, years and years and years ago, I was doing a show somewhere, and somebody knocked on the door.

"And, of course, Keanu was already famous at that time. He knocked on the door, and he said, 'Do you remember me? Retailers are not just quietly abandoning indoor malls, they are also escaping the suburban strip malls, as consumers continue to cut back on discretionary spending.

For shoppers in smaller communities, these closures could mean fewer places to buy affordable women’s clothing without driving to a larger city or shopping at a big-box retailer.

Over the past few years, a major name in the discount fashion industry operating across community strip shopping centers, often near large discounters like Walmart, has been quietly downsizing.

Founded 80 years ago, Cato Corporation, the value-priced women’s fashion chain, known for its Cato, It’s Fashion, and Versona stores, closed 14 stores this year, with plans to shut more in 2026.

Cato Corporation has closed 14 stores and opened two stores across its portfolio during the first six months of fiscal 2026, according to the company’s 10-Q filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

As of August 1, 2026, the discount fashion chain operated 1,057 stores, compared to 1,101 stores at the end of the same period of fiscal 2025. The clothing retailer had a net loss of 44 stores over the past year.

Moreover, Cato Corporation confirmed it plans to close around 50 stores total in fiscal 2026, while opening up to 10, which will result in a net decline of 40 stores for the full fiscal year 2026, unless plans change.

Cato’s sales for the first six months of fiscal 2026 fell 2.9% to $333.3 million from $343.1 million a year earlier. The decline was primarily related to flat comparable-store sales and the impact of closed stores, the retailer stated in the filing.

The retailer also reported net income of $10.5 million for the first six months of fiscal 2026, compared with $10.1 million during the same period a year earlier.

For shoppers, the most visible sign of the company’s changes may be the disappearing stores.

Cato has already closed hundreds of stores, exited one state

Earlier this year, I reported how Cato Corporation’s total store count decreased by 246 locations over the last four years.

As of Jan. 29, 2022, Cato Corporation operated 1,311 stores in 32 states, while as of May 2, 2026, the retailer operated 1,065 stores across 31 states. This means that the retailer exited one state.

The company’s previous financial filings revealed that the value-priced fashion chain’s store count has been declining about 60 stores on average per year since 2022.

More importantly, in its full year 2025 report, Cato Corporation said it plans to open 10 new stores and close 40 underperforming locations as leases expire. However, its latest report reveals it has raised the number of planned closures to 50.

Cato Corporation’s profit fell 83% last quarter

Cato’s profit for the first half of the year looks almost unchanged from last year; however, behind these numbers lies a different story.

In the second quarter of 2026, Cato earned $1.1 million in profit. In the same quarter last year, it earned $6.8 million. That’s a drop of 83%.

The six-month total looks steady because of a one-time tariff refund.

Cato recorded a $5.7 million reduction in cost of goods sold in the first quarter of fiscal 2026 as a refund of IEEPA (International Emergency Economic Powers Act) tariffs, after the U.S. The Supreme Court ruled certain tariffs had been imposed illegally. During the second quarter of fiscal 2026, the company received full payment of its tariff refund claim.

Sales also fell during the second quarter. Total sales dropped 6%, and same store sales fell 3.7%, according to its 10-Q filing.

Why has Cato Corporation been closing 60 stores per year?

The Cato Corporation’s CEO John Cato already warned about the company’s outlook earlier this year.

“For the foreseeable future we expect our sales to be negatively impacted by rising inflation, especially fuel and food prices, which will reduce our customers’ discretionary income,” Cato stated in the press release.

More recently, the company reiterated its previous economic warning, attributing the declines to challenges consumers continue to experience.

“Our second quarter results were negatively impacted by the continued pressure on our customers’ discretionary income. Higher fuel prices, persistent inflation and ongoing elevated interest rates continue to exert downward pressure on our customers’ discretionary income, which we believe will continue to make our customers more cautious with their discretionary spending into the foreseeable future,” Cato stated.

The retailer continued, “In addition, our ability to pass through cost increases caused by rising fuel prices, potential increased tariffs or other factors will be limited due in part to the pressure on our customers’ discretionary spending.”

Consumers are pulling back on discretionary spending

“Consumers reported plans to pull back across a broad range of discretionary purchases. Of the 22 categories in our survey, pet care services was the only one with net spending intent at zero or above; every other category was negative,” a recent McKinsey consumer survey found.

More importantly, consumer pullback extended into categories that typically see a strong seasonal lift. Net spending intent for apparel plummeted to –24, compared to just –1 during the same period last year, suggesting that budget-conscious shoppers are treating new clothes as a luxury expense.

Cato’s primary customers are middle-income families shopping in suburban strip centers, and they are also feeling the squeeze. McKinsey sentiment data highlights that while lower-income consumers remain pessimistic overall, middle- and high-income households reported the largest drop in optimism.

That broader pullback could put additional pressure on discretionary categories such as clothing.

What Cato Corporation closures mean for consumers

The Cato Corporation was founded in 1946 by Wayland Cato Sr., Wayland Cato Jr., and Edgar Thomas in Charlotte, North Carolina. It launched with only five main-street locations, and over the decades it grew its presence focusing on value-priced women’s fashion.

For 80 years, value-conscious shoppers have relied on The Cato Corporation, the driving force behind brands like Cato Fashions, Versona, and It’s Fashion, for trendy, budget-friendly clothing located conveniently close to home.

For shoppers in smaller communities, losing a Cato location can mean traveling farther for affordable women’s clothing or turning to larger retailers like Walmart or Target, and online shopping.

As inflation continues to squeeze the middle class, the quiet disappearance of stores like Cato proves that finding a good deal close to home is becoming harder than ever.

Medical Evidence of Skin Condition and Internal Damage

For decades, critics questioned the changes in Jackson’s skin tone. While rumors suggested that he intentionally changed his complexion, the post-mortem report verified that he suffered from vitiligo. It is an autoimmune disease that stops skin cells from producing pigment.

Dr. Shepherd clarified, “You can see from the autopsy that just as Jackson maintained, he did have a skin condition. In the darker areas, there are lighter blotches, and it appears that in these lighter blotches, the skin had stopped producing pigment.”

Dr. Shepherd noted, “Without these, the skin is pale. And that explains Jackson’s appearance. And it’s consistent with a disease called vitiligo.”

Additionally, while most of his internal organs were healthy, his respiratory system was severely damaged.

He explained, “Most of his organs were in good condition for his age, the exception was his lungs and they were like a battlefield. The lining of the airways showed a lot of damage and both lungs showed widespread inflammation and quite extensive scarring. For Michael Jackson it would have made it harder to exert himself and he would have fatigued more easily. The next question I would want to ask, is what has caused all this damage.”

When Queen frontman Freddie Mercury died, he left half of his estate – estimated to be worth around £20m to £30m at the time – to Mary Austin, his best friend and former fiancée. Now, Austin has finally spoken out about receiving millions from the rock star after his death and how the vast inheritance has actually “been really difficult” to manage over the years.

The now 80-year-old became engaged to Mercury in the 1970s, but the pair split when Mercury told her he was gay. They stayed friends, with Austin taking on the job as Mercury’s personal assistant, and the pair remained close until the Queen star’s death aged 45 from bronchial pneumonia related to his AIDS diagnosis in 1991.

In a new interview with The Guardian, Austin admitted that she initially refused to live in Mercury’s Kensington home, known as Garden Lodge, when he placed it in his will.

“I said, ‘I don’t want the house, I’ve worked hard for you to live in this.’ And he said, ‘If everything had gone to plan you would have been my wife, and this would have been rightly yours,’” she said, later saying of the inheritance: “Mostly, it’s been really difficult.”

She therefore moved into Garden Lodge, which forced Mercury’s partner Jim Hutton to move out. He was left £500,000 by Mercury and given three months to leave the property, despite claiming that Mercury had told him he could continue to live there.

Addressing the awkward situation, Austin said: “It had nothing to do with me. It was all down to the executors of the will.” She inherited 50 per cent of Mercury’s fortune and future royalties, and moved into Garden Lodge.

When asked whether Mercury left her the substantial sum out of love or as an apology, Austin said: “I don’t know. There’s more on that list than you realise, I’m afraid. Could be [guilt], but I think not. If you put your thinking cap on, you’ll get there.”

Austin also revealed that she has continued to keep the location of Mercury’s ashes a secret, as per his wishes. “I think if I was Freddie’s parents, Freddie’s sister, and I wasn’t allowed to know where his ashes have been scattered, I would be upset and offended, but that’s the job he asked me to do,” she continued. “And I did it. I kept saying to them, ‘I’m really, really sorry – I can’t tell you,’” adding that his mother did accept that.

Austin has lived in Mercury’s home since his death but recently placed it up for sale, asking for a £30m purchase price. She added that upon her death, the inherited funds will go to the Elton John AIDS Foundation and her two sons, who knew nothing about her connection to Mercury or that they grew up in his home until they were in their late 20s.

Last month, it was announced that a number of Mercury’s belongings, including a piano and microphone he used as well as early drafts of his songwriting, would be auctioned in October. The piano carries a pre-sale estimate of £200,000 to £400,000, with the auction taking place on October 1 and 2.

Meanwhile, a selection of his costumes will be going on display at the V&A next month to mark what would have been his 80th birthday – with Austin helping to create the exhibition.
