Michael’s Sudden Passing Ahead of His Planned Comeback

The “Human Nature” singer passed away in June 2009 inside a rented home in Holmby Hills, California, after suffering a cardiac arrest. He was rushed to the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, but medical staff could not save him.

Jackson was only 50 years old. His death occurred just weeks before he was scheduled to perform a massive 50-show residency at London’s O2 Arena. This would mark his return to stage performances after a 12-year break, per Daily Express US.

The coroner’s reports confirmed that he died from acute propofol poisoning. He had used the heavy anaesthetic to battle chronic insomnia for nearly 10 years. His personal physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, was later convicted of involuntary manslaughter for giving him the lethal dose. Murray spent two years behind bars.

Michael Jackson’s Post-Mortem Report

Michael Jackson‘s official post-mortem report exposed several severe physical issues that he had hidden from the public for decades. The report showed how deeply his reliance on prescription drugs affected his health.

One of his biggest secrets involved his hair. Following a famous accident on set in 1984, the singer lost most of his natural hair. Renowned forensic expert Dr. Richard Shepherd examined the medical files and clarified how the accident altered Jackson’s appearance.

Speaking on Autopsy: The Last Hours of Michael Jackson, he explained, “Jackson’s hair is not his own, he’s wearing a wig. It’s held on by semi-permanent glue and there are some sparse areas of his own hair on the sides and the back of his head. His scalp reveals the reason for his baldness. There’s an area of scarring on the top of the back of his head, and this scarring is consistent with a burn.”

This injury happened while filming a commercial for Pepsi alongside his brothers, when fireworks went off early and set his hair on fire. According to the Daily Star, the severe burns forced him to wear hairpieces for the rest of his life. It also triggered a severe painkiller dependency that gradually grew into a heavy addiction to sedatives, morphine, and alcohol.

Medical Evidence of Skin Condition and Internal Damage

For decades, critics questioned the changes in Jackson’s skin tone. While rumors suggested that he intentionally changed his complexion, the post-mortem report verified that he suffered from vitiligo. It is an autoimmune disease that stops skin cells from producing pigment.

Dr. Shepherd clarified, “You can see from the autopsy that just as Jackson maintained, he did have a skin condition. In the darker areas, there are lighter blotches, and it appears that in these lighter blotches, the skin had stopped producing pigment.”

Dr. Shepherd noted, “Without these, the skin is pale. And that explains Jackson’s appearance. And it’s consistent with a disease called vitiligo.”

Additionally, while most of his internal organs were healthy, his respiratory system was severely damaged.

He explained, “Most of his organs were in good condition for his age, the exception was his lungs and they were like a battlefield. The lining of the airways showed a lot of damage and both lungs showed widespread inflammation and quite extensive scarring. For Michael Jackson it would have made it harder to exert himself and he would have fatigued more easily. The next question I would want to ask, is what has caused all this damage.”

When Queen frontman Freddie Mercury died, he left half of his estate – estimated to be worth around £20m to £30m at the time – to Mary Austin, his best friend and former fiancée. Now, Austin has finally spoken out about receiving millions from the rock star after his death and how the vast inheritance has actually “been really difficult” to manage over the years.

The now 80-year-old became engaged to Mercury in the 1970s, but the pair split when Mercury told her he was gay. They stayed friends, with Austin taking on the job as Mercury’s personal assistant, and the pair remained close until the Queen star’s death aged 45 from bronchial pneumonia related to his AIDS diagnosis in 1991.

In a new interview with The Guardian, Austin admitted that she initially refused to live in Mercury’s Kensington home, known as Garden Lodge, when he placed it in his will.

“I said, ‘I don’t want the house, I’ve worked hard for you to live in this.’ And he said, ‘If everything had gone to plan you would have been my wife, and this would have been rightly yours,’” she said, later saying of the inheritance: “Mostly, it’s been really difficult.”

She therefore moved into Garden Lodge, which forced Mercury’s partner Jim Hutton to move out. He was left £500,000 by Mercury and given three months to leave the property, despite claiming that Mercury had told him he could continue to live there.

Addressing the awkward situation, Austin said: “It had nothing to do with me. It was all down to the executors of the will.” She inherited 50 per cent of Mercury’s fortune and future royalties, and moved into Garden Lodge.

When asked whether Mercury left her the substantial sum out of love or as an apology, Austin said: “I don’t know. There’s more on that list than you realise, I’m afraid. Could be [guilt], but I think not. If you put your thinking cap on, you’ll get there.”

Austin also revealed that she has continued to keep the location of Mercury’s ashes a secret, as per his wishes. “I think if I was Freddie’s parents, Freddie’s sister, and I wasn’t allowed to know where his ashes have been scattered, I would be upset and offended, but that’s the job he asked me to do,” she continued. “And I did it. I kept saying to them, ‘I’m really, really sorry – I can’t tell you,’” adding that his mother did accept that.

Austin has lived in Mercury’s home since his death but recently placed it up for sale, asking for a £30m purchase price. She added that upon her death, the inherited funds will go to the Elton John AIDS Foundation and her two sons, who knew nothing about her connection to Mercury or that they grew up in his home until they were in their late 20s.

Last month, it was announced that a number of Mercury’s belongings, including a piano and microphone he used as well as early drafts of his songwriting, would be auctioned in October. The piano carries a pre-sale estimate of £200,000 to £400,000, with the auction taking place on October 1 and 2.

Meanwhile, a selection of his costumes will be going on display at the V&A next month to mark what would have been his 80th birthday – with Austin helping to create the exhibition.

Tori Spelling has shared a heartfelt tribute to her son Finn on his 14th birthday

Tori Spelling is in mom mode!

On Monday, Aug. 31, the 53-year-old actress paid tribute to her son Finn as he turned 14 with a sweet social media post.

“14 looks good on my bro lol @finndaveymcdermott,” she began the post, which was accompanied by a video of photographs of Finn at various stages.

“He’s always been my warrior,” Spelling continued.

“He and I fought hard to be here. He knew his journey. And, showed me my purpose in many ways.”

The former Beverly Hills, 90210 star went on to call her boy a “beautiful soul” and “quietly hysterical.”

Spelling concluded, “He’s grown so many inches in the last few months it’s hard to recognize the man he has become. He will always be my baby bear. I love you, Finney aka Nooch. Mom xo.”

The images, which appeared to be pegged onto a piece of string that Spelling had attached to her refrigerator, showed Finn as a tiny newborn and a smiling toddler.

As well as Finn, Spelling and McDermott — who divorced in March 2024 — are also parents to sons Liam, 19, and Beau, 9, plus daughters Stella, 18, and Hattie, 14.

Spelling and McDermott welcomed Finn on Aug. 30, 2012, following a challenging pregnancy. While pregnant, Spelling was hospitalized and put on bed rest after dealing with placenta previa, a condition where the placenta completely or partially covers the opening of the uterus.

At 37 weeks, Finn was delivered via C-section, but Spelling went on to face further complications following the delivery. She underwent emergency surgery and eventually recovered.

In 2013, Spelling told PEOPLE that the challenging pregnancy and delivery had a lasting effect on her and that even after Finn was born, she was very cautious.

“Dean says I’m actually more protective of Finn than I was of the other three,” Spelling said. “Because of what Finn and I went through medically — it was a rough pregnancy — I may not consciously know it, but at home I’m usually behind him going, ‘Wha! Wha! Wha!’ And Dean is like, ‘Please stop gasping!’ “

Despite that, Spelling said “rambunctious” Finn was the “little bruiser of the family.” She added that he was the opposite of his brother Liam and joked that Finn often ran around “terrorizing everything.”

Spelling added, “Liam was a super mellow baby and with Finn, if you turn around for one second, his finger is in the socket and he’s pulling the blinds around himself. He is that kid.”

Domestic uranium production is this company's forte

As data center operators embrace nuclear energy solutions, growth investors have two compelling routes to consider right now. Fortunately, EnergyFuels(NYSEMKT: UUUU) makes it easy for them as the company is involved in both rare-earth elements and uranium production.

With respect to uranium, Energy Fuels conducts mining operations at La Sal in Utah and Pinyon Plain in Arizona. In addition, the company operates the White Mesa Mill, which it characterizes as the "only fully licensed and operating conventional uranium mill in the United States."

Energy Fuels is also positioned to grow its uranium operations thanks to several development projects in the pipeline. The Sheep Mountain Project, for example, is one of the largest uranium projects in the U.S., with over 30 million pounds of uranium resources, according to Energy Fuels.

The company's uranium business is off to a strong start this year. Through the first half of 2026, Energy Fuels produced 1.7 million pounds of finished triuranium octoxide, the concentrated uranium product made after uranium is removed from mined rock. Initially, Energy Fuels had projected a full-year guidance range of 1.5 to 2.5 million pounds of triuranium octoxide.

On a shopping spree to grow its rare-earth operations

Thanks to the considerable political enthusiasm for U.S.-based rare-earth production, growth investors also stand to benefit from Energy Fuels' expanding rare-earth elements business. This summer, the company took a major step toward that end, beginning construction on the expansion of the White Mesa Mill -- a project that will allow the large-scale production of heavy rare-earth oxides.

In addition to the organic routes it's taking to grow this business, Energy Fuels is embracing acquisitions. At the end of August, Energy Fuels completed the acquisition of Australian Strategic Materials (ASM), which will help the company to add 1,300 metric tons of neodymium-iron-boron alloy production capacity at ASM's Korean Metals Plant.

Expected to close in early 2027, Energy Fuels' acquisition of VAC, an advanced magnetics production specialist, will help the company further expand its rare-earth business. Energy Fuels states that the acquisition will help it become "the first western company with geographically diversified commercial capabilities across every critical step of the rare-earth value chain."

Is now a good time to load up on Energy Fuels stock?

With Energy Fuels shares falling more than 30% over the past six months, investors have a much more attractive entry point to start a position now. It's important to recognize, though, that only those comfortable with more speculative investments should consider taking positions, since the company isn't profitable. For those who are more risk-averse, nuclear energy exchange-traded funds (ETFs) or rare-earth ETFs that include Energy Fuels among their holdings may be better options.

BENGALURU, Sept 1 (Reuters) - India's manufacturing sector expanded at its slowest pace in five years in August as demand remained soft, leading to job losses for the first time in more than two years, a survey showed.

• The HSBC India Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI), compiled by S&P Global, fell to 52.8 in August from 53.5 in July, slightly lower than a preliminary estimate of 52.9.

• A PMI reading above 50.0 indicates growth in activity.

• Asia's third-largest economy grew 7.8% from a year earlier in the April-June quarter, exceeding a Reuters poll expectation of 7.1% driven by an investment boom and growth in the manufacturing sector. However, growth is expected to slow to 6.6% in the current quarter according to the poll.

• New orders rose at the slowest pace since August 2021, with firms pointing to challenging market conditions and weak demand for some products. Export orders also grew, though the pace of international demand growth eased from July.

• Output continued to expand but at its slowest pace in five years.

• In a further sign of caution, factory headcount fell for the first time in 30 months, though the decline was only marginal.

• Cost pressures eased, with input price inflation falling to a six-month low. Firms limited increases in their selling prices as a result, with output charge inflation slowing to its weakest in 45 months and falling below its long-run trend.

• Despite the broad slowdown, business confidence improved slightly and rose to its highest since May. However, sentiment remained subdued by historical standards.

This winter's flu vaccine has been to protect against last year's Super-K strain, with the first doses being given to schoolchildren and pregnant women.

Flu hit early last winter, with a new mutated version of the virus circulating - a seasonal influenza called subclade K or Super-K.

School children are being prioritised - and like pregnant women can get the jab from Tuesday - because they can catch and spread flu easily. Protecting them also helps others, including baby brothers or sisters and grandparents.

Other eligible groups, including people aged 65 and over, can get a free NHS flu shot from October and should receive an invite by phone or post.

Super-K flu

Last winter's flu season was unexpected, beginning more than a month earlier than usual with the Super-K strain.

Super flu is not a medical term, and it does not mean the virus has become harder to treat, just that people are yet to build up immunity against it.

Flu vaccines are annually to ensure they are a good match for the type of flu circulating. Influenza viruses constantly mutate and experts have to predict these changes ahead of time.

This year's vaccine has had a few tweaks, including one to better match subclade K.

It is not clear when flu will hit this year, and whether it will be a bad season. But experts often look to southern hemisphere countries, like Australia and New Zealand, to gain a better understanding of how the UK could be affected.

Their flu season peaks in July or August, and these countries have so far had a relatively mild year in terms of cases.

Dr Amanda Doyle from NHS England said it was best to be cautious.

"Last year's flu season came early and was made worse by a new variant, which had a major impact for patients and put enormous pressure on urgent and emergency care services across the country," she said.

"With the NHS experiencing its busiest summer on record, staff have started preparing for this winter earlier than ever – and with services already under significant pressure, it is vital that everyone offered the vaccine comes forward."

Who can get it, and when?

Everyone is at risk of catching flu. It does not matter how fit and healthy you are, or your age.

Dr Doyle said: "Flu can really knock you for six, and for some children and pregnant women it can mean becoming seriously ill or ending up in hospital."

The vaccine cannot give you flu. Instead, it helps your body know how to fight the virus.

Children, from the age of two upwards, get a nasal spray version, while adults have an injection. A single dose is all that is needed to offer protection ahead of winter.

High Street pharmacies are offering NHS flu vaccines, along with GPs and schools. People who do not qualify for a free jab can pay about £10 to £20 for one.

School children and pregnant women can get a free NHS flu vaccine from September onwards. You can get a free one from October if you:

are a child aged two or older who has not started school yet

are aged 65 or over

have certain long-term health conditions

live in a care home

are the main carer for an older or disabled person, or receive a carer's allowance

live with someone who has a weakened immune system

are experiencing homelessness or staying in a homeless hostel or night shelter

More adults are also being offered another vaccine this winter to protect against RSV or Respiratory Syncytial Virus, which attacks the lungs.

From this September, adults will be invited to have the vaccine when they are 65, rather than waiting until 75, if they have certain pre-existing health conditions, such as chronic lung disease.

CHICAGO (AP) — U.S. President Donald Trump has asked Apple to change the name of Lake Ontario to “Lake America” on its maps app, his administration's interior chief said Monday, days after signing an executive order over the body of water now in the spotlight amid his escalating trade war with Canada.

Interior Secretary Doug Burgum told Fox's “Mornings with Maria” program that Trump “reached out to Apple directly." He said he was confident the “Lake America” name could be seen on its platform soon.

Apple did not immediately comment in response. Only the Lake Ontario name appeared on its platform as of Monday afternoon, although the label notably hovered above Canada's water border.

Just over the weekend, competitor Google Maps rolled out the new “Lake America” name for U.S. users looking at the body of water that sits between the state of New York and Canada’s Ontario province. The company cited the recent order by Trump, and its already-established practice of using names assigned by the U.S. Geographic Names Information System, also known as GNIS.

“People using Maps in the U.S. will see ‘Lake America,’ those in Canada will continue to see ‘Lake Ontario,’ and those outside of the U.S. and Canada will see both names,” Google said in a brief statement on Saturday, reiterating that such updates “follow our long-standing policy for bodies of water with names that vary from country to country.”

Trump declared the new “Lake America” name last week — marking one of the latest provocations during his trade war with Canada that is now hiking tariffs on both sides of the border. His executive order on Friday directed the Interior Department to update the lake's name in the U.S. geographic naming service.

The president cannot force Canada to follow along, however. And America's northern neighbors quickly panned the idea. The leader of the Seneca Nation in upstate New York also said the move violates a more than 225-year-old treaty and shows a “blatant disrespect” for the Indigenous people who gave Lake Ontario its name in the first place.

This isn't the first time Trump has moved to rename water spanning beyond U.S. borders. Last year, Trump ordered that the Gulf of Mexico be renamed the Gulf of America — and both Apple and Google later the name on their maps in the U.S.
