Filming has started for the third series of the re-imagined 1980s detective drama Bergerac.

Damien Molony reprises his role as Jim Bergerac, with Jason Flemyng, Zoë Wanamaker, Tessa Peake Jones, Lee Ingleby, Robert Gilbert and Georgia Tennant also in the cast, for the series which is set to air in 2027, UKTV confirmed.

The six part U&Original series created by Toby Whithouse and set in Jersey, is based on the original series by Robert Banks Stewart and starring John Nettles, which ran for nine series on the BBC between 1981 and 1991.

Helen Perry, from UKTV said the programme was a "firm favourite" with audiences, and was "thrilled to recommission it for a third series".

Donald Trump exploded at coverage of his job performance on Monday morning as his voter ID agenda continues to stall in Congress and the war with Iran pushes his numbers down more and more each day.

The president penned an angry Truth Social rant aimed at media organizations he claimed were pushing fake polls to deride him as an unpopular president.

“My REAL Polling Numbers, not those made up by the Fake News Media, are the best they have ever been, and why wouldn’t they be with the biggest tax cuts and employment numbers EVER,” claimed Trump.

“Don’t believe the Radical Left’s Fake Poll numbers. They are Crooked and Corrupt, just like the Country Destroying Dumocrats are Crooked and Corrupt,” he went on.

The president provided no links, screenshots or data of any kind to back up his assertions.

Meanwhile, respected polling outfits with histories of accurate predictions of all political stripes continue to paint roughly the same picture of his administration: one beset by the typical political consequences of economic pain and the anger of Americans, including many Trump voters, over America’s participation in a lengthening military conflict after the president’s promise to keep the U.S. out of such entanglements.

An /NORC poll released near the end of July found the president with the approval of just one-third of all American adults, while 66 percent disapproved of his job performance.

That result has been borne out in other surveys, like a Quinnipiac survey taken over the same time frame, that showed Trump with 32 percent approval and 58 percent disapproval. Even in the latest polling by Trump-friendly Fox News, also taken in July, Trump’s approval rating is only a few points higher — 39 percent.

It’s clear what the reason is for Trump’s massive dip — the war. The AP-NORC survey found that only two in 10 Americans support continuing the war, cutting significantly into Republicans and GOP-leaning independents.

The president has long accused media outlets of faking his polling when it drops, only to turn around and embrace those same surveys when his approval rating rebounds.

In January, he wrote on Truth Social that “fake polling” should be “virtually” a “criminal offense”. It is not, and there’s no evidence that any of the major polling outlets have ever published false data.

Polling data shows that Trump’s problems extend far beyond just a temporary dip in popularity.

The president’s job performance is dipping among Republicans in the first significant way since he has returned to power and quite possibly in a more serious manner than the dip of approval he saw in the immediate aftermath of January 6.

A CNN poll released last month found the president’s approval rating with Republicans dipping below 80 percent as the war with Iran departed from a shaky ceasefire agreement and fell back into open hostilities, causing gas prices to spike well past the $4 per gallon national average.

The survey showed a 10-point drop for the president among members of his own base in CNN’s polling over the course of one year.

Without the president on the ballot this year, the twin Republican caucuses in the House and Senate are playing defense as the president’s party typically loses seats during midterm election years.

This year could be a blowout for Democrats, who are projected to make gains in both chambers and thanks to Trump’s own interference in the GOP Senate caucus could stand to take both majorities.

The president’s severe popularity issues are a serious problem for Republicans, who’ve aligned themselves closely with his agenda over the past nearly two years.

McCurdy later reflected on her feelings of jealousy and resentment in her 2022 memoir, I’m Glad My Mom Died, clarifying her anger was directed at the Nickelodeon environment rather than Grande herself.

Life in the spotlight

Grande’s musical trajectory continued upwards with her second studio album, My Everything, in 2014.

Featuring collaborations with artists like Nicki Minaj, Jessie J, and The Weeknd, the record spawned number one singles such as Problem and Bang Bang, cementing her popstar status and earning her first Grammy nomination.

This period also saw a high-profile, albeit brief, romance with rapper Big Sean.

“I hate America” controversy

However, public scrutiny intensified in July 2015 when footage emerged of Grande in a doughnut shop with then-boyfriend Ricky Alvarez.

Their two-year romance ended in May 2018, and just months later, Miller tragically died aged 26 from an accidental overdose.

Grande led tributes, remembering him as the "kindest, sweetest soul with demons he never deserved."

“Blackfishing” controversy

Late 2018 and early 2019 saw Grande, who is of Italian descent, face intense public scrutiny over her appearance and heavy use of fake tan.

Accusations of "blackfishing" peaked after the release of her 7 Rings music video, with critics noting a perceived imitation of Black people in her appearance, mannerisms, and speech, a stark contrast to her Nickelodeon persona.

Engagements and marriage

Her romantic life remained a focal point, with a whirlwind engagement to comedian Pete Davidson in May 2018, which ended that October.

Grande later confirmed her relationship with luxury real estate agent Dalton Gomez in 2020, leading to their engagement later that year and marriage in 2021.

As light-entertainment, schedule-filler television goes, you can’t really fault the logic behind Richard E Grant’s Very Modern Odyssey. The four-part series, in which the actor and presenter explores the Mediterranean locales that inspired Homer’s ancient Greek epic The Odyssey, arrives just a couple of weeks after Christopher Nolan’s lavish, phenomenally popular film adaptation came out in cinemas. It’s safe to say there hasn’t been this much interest in The Odyssey in centuries. Grant’s Channel 4 series plays dumb on this front – not really alluding to Nolan’s film or The Odyssey’s re-emergent relevance – but the thinking here is obvious.

One of the big problems that Very Modern Odyssey runs up against is that the most resonant moments of Homer’s story were not historical, or even geographical, but magical. Grant travels around the places Odysseus passed through on his journey – Malta, Sicily, Italy, Tunisia, Turkey, Corfu and Ithaca – but the modern-day reality of these places is fairly prosaic. In Malta, he tours the awe-inspiring Baroque designs of St John’s Co-Cathedral, and learns how to craft traditional Maltese floor tiles. It’s mildly, innocuously interesting, but far removed from the potent imagination of Homer’s story. Grant can wander around beachfronts and churches all he likes, but he’s never going to encounter the sirens, or run afoul of a cyclops. (Which is a shame, really, because “Withnail and Eye” would be a picture caption too good to pass up.)

In truth, the words “very modern” are a red herring: this is a show about the history of the Mediterranean, explored eclectically in relics and tourist hideaways. Grant isn’t on an Odyssey so much as a cushy European getaway. The enduring appeal to all of these Grant-fronted travel shows (past entries in the genre include Richard E Grant’s Hotel Secrets, The Riviera: A History in Pictures, and Write Around the World) is Grant himself, a man who manages to be somehow shambling and urbane at once. There’s a gentleness to his voice and his manner; you believe he is sincere in his appreciation of history and ancient art. (And unlike Tom Hiddleston, he manages this without hand-flailing time travel.) But there’s not all that much more to it than gentleness and sincerity; sometimes, the crux of the scene is simply watching him look at something that seems like it must be very impressive in person, sort of a fusty, long-form equivalent of one of those dismal YouTube “reaction” videos.

The other big problem with Very Modern Odyssey is one that the programme’s creators could not have necessarily foreseen – which is just how much Nolan’s film has inspired people to engage with Homer’s story, and the context behind it. Thanks in part to interminable debates about “historical accuracy” and fidelity to the source material, the internet has been awash with discussion of The Odyssey for weeks now. The average member of the public is likely to have significantly more knowledge of the Greek epic than would have been the case back when this series was commissioned. This does not really matter, of course, but it does make you wish that Grant were allowed to go a little deeper into the text.

It also creates an amusing disconnect when Grant travels to the site of the Trojan War, in modern-day Turkey. In Nolan’s film, the fabled Trojan horse scheme is framed as an insidious, epoch-destroying betrayal – Nolan radically and ingeniously reframing one of history’s most well-known stories from a triumph into a travesty. Here, Grant brushes it off with what has always been the received logic: that it was a “military masterstroke”.

It would be wrong to expect this series to engage with a film that its creators had not seen at the time of its making, but the timing here makes these sorts of comparisons unavoidable. Very Modern Odyssey attempts to ride a slipstream of interest that everyone could see coming – only to find that it’s already been left far behind.

Lindsay Lohan has joined Amy Sedaris in a new ad for Reese’s Oreo.

Lohan and Sedaris both play twins in the commercial.

In The Parent Trap in 1998, Lohan scored her breakout performance as twins Annie and Hallie.

You’re not seeing double... it’s just Annie and Hallie, back on your screens nearly 30 years later. At least, that’s who it appears to be.

Millennial icon Lindsay Lohan has apparently reprised her roles from the 1998 version of The Parent Trap, in which she played twins, in a new commercial for a collaboration between Oreo and Reese’s Peanut Butter. These twins happen to really love mixing Oreos with peanut butter.

We say “apparently” because the character names are not explicitly stated and the project seemingly has nothing to do with the movie’s owners (hint: mouse is a mascot). But... context clues: It’s a camp run by twins who both look like the Irish Wish actress.

Oh, and Amy Sedaris is there, too, though that’s not a movie callback. It’s just fun!

In the ad, titled Two Fated Icons, Sedaris and her twin sister are attending a camp, the “Reese’s Twins Retreat,” run by Lohan and her twin sister (one’s a blonde, one’s a redhead).

“Welcome to my wellness retreat, where I help twins work out their differences,” the blonde Lohan begins the commercial, before adding directly to camera, “Because, well — I know a thing or two about twins.”

As she attempts to counsel the two Sedarises, they roast each other — one Amy says the other looks like “an eight-week-old jack-o’-lantern.” Each Amy is wearing a necklace with half of a cookie, one an Oreo, the other made of Reese’s.

Lohan tells them, “Sometimes our differences can come together in unexpected ways.” She then brings the magical necklaces together.

“Sure, Reese’s and Oreos may go perfectly together, but that doesn’t exist,” an Amy protests.

Later, the Amys fight over a jar of Reese’s peanut butter when they are interrupted by the redheaded Lohan, who smiles at a wink from blonde Lohan, “No relation.”

Finally, the problems find resolution when Lohan tells the Oreo and Reese’s-loving Amys that they can combine the two treats with her new Reese’s Oreo cups.

Of course, the Amys are delighted, but then the ad doles out one final twist... spoiler: They have a triplet.

“Wait, there are three of you!” an exasperated Lohan exclaims before fainting, a direct reference to when Elaine Hendrix’s Meredith Blake finds out Lohan’s Hallie has a twin sister in The Parent Trap.

The original Parent Trap came out in 1961 and starred Hayley Mills (as well as Hayley Mills). A huge hit and generational family favorite, Disney rebooted the movie with Lohan 37 years later, alongside Dennis Quaid, Natasha Richardson, and Lisa Ann Walter. It, too, became a generational favorite, cementing Lohan’s stardom.

Lohan recently reflected on her breakout performance, telling Parade, “It means so much. It was, you know, my first movie audition, my first film, and it holds such an important place in my heart. It’s just such a lovely family movie, and [director] Nancy Meyers has such a beautiful way of doing that in her films. And people just really connect to it. It’s so funny; still today, young kids now notice me from that, which is just wild that people still love it so much. And to be a part of something like that is really special.”

Last year, Lohan reprised a different Disney role — officially this time — with the release of Freakier Friday, in which she once again portrayed Anna opposite Jamie Lee Curtis’ Tess. Or was it her as Tess and Curtis as Anna? Hmmm.

The I Know Who Killed Me star marked her 40th birthday on July 2. In a celebratory post, she wrote in part, “Returning to Freakier Friday felt like a full-circle moment, a reminder of where I began and how much I’ve grown along the way. SINGAPORE, Aug 3 (Reuters) - The British band Massive Attack said its members were detained by Singapore police and "isolated and separately questioned" after the two performers raised a Palestinian flag at their concert in the city-state last Wednesday.

In a statement posted on Instagram on Sunday, the band said they were "surprised and disappointed" that the entire band was detained and questioned.

Several members had their hotel rooms searched and passports temporarily confiscated, the post said.

Singapore police did not immediately respond to questions from Reuters regarding the band's statement.

The trip-hop band has two members, Robert Del Naja and Grant Marshall, both British nationals, who unfurled the flag and held it up as audience cheered "Free Palestine!", a Reuters witness said.

Police said last Friday the band's actions "could potentially harm the racial and religious harmony in Singapore" and that two band members were issued with stern warnings and barred from re-entering Singapore. Police did not name the two band members.

The band did not say who among the members were detained and whose rooms were searched or passports confiscated.

The band were performing with a live backing band and guest vocalists, including Elizabeth Fraser of the Cocteau Twins.

"We did not imagine that merely holding up the flag of a sovereign state recognised by 157 countries (Palestine) would violate any law," the band's statement said.

"The surreal experience was a reminder of the importance of defending universal human rights and freedom of expression wherever those rights are threatened," the band said.

Singapore does not allow the public display of foreign national emblems without a permit or exemption, and the Palestinian flag is especially sensitive given the conflict in Gaza and Singapore's Muslim population.

Singapore has an ethnically and religiously diverse population of about 6.11 million, of whom around 15% of the citizens and permanent residents are Muslim.

Massive Attack, formed in Bristol in the west of England in 1988, are known for their outspoken political stances, with videos during their ⁠concert highlighting conflicts in Iran, Sudan, Gaza and Ukraine.

Sources claim Prince Harry hopes Prince George has a happier experience at Eton College

Prince Harry seemed to hope that Prince George would experience a happier life at Eton College. The 12-year-old will soon start his academic and personality development at the institution where his father and uncle studied. A source told InTouch Weekly that the duke has reportedly been worried his nephew might struggle at the school as he did.

Through his book, “Spare,” Harry revealed that he had a “very hard time” at Eton. Although he did list some positives, the father of two highlighted the “level of pressure and scrutiny” he went through. According to him, it was “pretty unbearable.”

Hence, Harry seemingly hopes that Prince George will have a “much better time.” “But, of course, he’s worried for him because he knows exactly what he’s about to face. He wishes he could be there to support George,” the insider said.

Furthermore, they addressed the before-and-after relationship between the uncle and his nephew. According to them, Harry “loves” the teenager, but their family situation has prevented him from getting to know George better. Reportedly, Harry last saw his nephew when the latter was just seven.

It was also reported that Harry wants to reconcile with his brother so he can get to know his nephews and nieces. “He wants the chance to have a relationship with George, and with Charlotte and Louis too. It breaks his heart that he’s missed so much of their childhoods already,” the source claimed.
