Manchester United claimed their second win of pre-season after fighting back from a goal down to beat Atletico Madrid.
Michael Carrick named a strong team with youngster Shea Lacey starting in the No 10 position. But they fell behind in the sixth minute when Arnau Ortiz’s cross into the box evaded everyone, including United keeper Tom Heaton and the ball dropped into his net.
The Premier League side were the better team in the first half, with sharp pressing and incisive passing from the likes of Mason Mount and Andrey Santos.
United got the equaliser their performance deserved when the impressive Shea Lacey showed his skill in the box and was fouled. From the resulting penalty, Bryan Mbeumo sent the goalkeeper the wrong way from the spot.
In the 72nd minute, Mbeumo got his second of the afternoon after he bundled the ball home after the United press forced Atletico into a mistake.
The Spanish side threatened an equaliser and hit the post twice in the closing stages but United held on to win.

Gianni Infantino is facing an ultimatum from Uefa: resign or face an emergency no-confidence vote.
It is understood all 55 of Uefa’s member nations would opt to oust Infantino in a vote of no-confidence if he refuses to step down. Uefa can trigger such a vote with just 43 member nations.
European football’s governing body announced a loss of confidence on Saturday morning and has demanded change after Infantino was forced to scrap his £15bn plan to sell a stake in the World Cup.
Uefa’s statement followed widespread opposition and a revolt within Fifa’s ranks that staff are calling “kill the monster”.
The Football Association backed Uefa’s stance, saying: “We fully support Uefa’s position. Man Utd continue preparations for the new season
Good afternoon and welcome to pre-season coverage of Manchester United against Atletico Madrid.
Michael Carrick’s squad continue their preparations for the new season with a trip to the Swedish capital, Stockholm, where they face Diego Simeone’s La Liga side.
Last week, United cruised to a 5-0 victory over Rosenborg but today will be their first real test. They are slowly starting to get players back but the likes of captain Bruno Fernandes and Youri Tielemans will not be involved.
“I think we’re in a good place. I think there’s four weeks to go to the start and we’re gradually getting some boys back from the World Cup as we progress,” Carrick said.
“But I think a little bit of patience and time and trying to keep ahead and as I said, keeping everyone fit but moving forward is a really good direction to go in. And as it stands right now, I think we’re in a pretty good place. So, the boys will get better as we go.”
One player who will be looking to impress is Mason Mount. He has had an injury-hit spell at Old Trafford but is fit and ready to go for the season. He is also growing into a leadership role at the club.
He told BBC Radio Manchester: “You have different types of leaders, you have ones that are very vocal. I always want to see myself as one that leads by example and never stops working on the pitch.
“I’ve been captain previously years ago. I love the role especially with a lot of younger players on the pitch being able to speak to them and make them feel comfortable in the game and off the pitch as well. It’s a role that I really like and loved having it [the captain’s armband] in the second half.”
