- Sherri Shepherd has revealed Milo Ventimiglia was fired from *Rewind*, a 1997 sitcom that was ultimately canceled before it aired.

- *Rewind* starred Scott Baio and Mystro Clark as advertising execs who regularly looked back at to their teenage years in the 1970s.

- Ventimiglia was cast as the younger version of Baio's character, "but then they let him go," said Shepherd.

Milo Ventimiglia got his "Welcome to Hollywood" moment not long after launching an acting career.

In 1997, after appearing in one-off episodes of *The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air*, *Sabrina the Teenage Witch*, and *Saved by the Bell: The New Class*, Ventimiglia scored a potential big break when he was cast as the younger version of Scott Baio's character, Rob, on *Rewind*.

The sitcom's premise promised a fair amount of screen time: Rob and his childhood friend Harv (Mystro Clark) were advertising execs who regularly revisited their early years by "rewinding" back to the 1970s.

But as it turned out, *Rewind* was ultimately more of a setback for Ventimiglia, according to a new revelation by costar Sherri Shepherd, who played Rob's secretary.

"He was originally at the table read, but then they let him go," Shepherd recalled in a recent Instagram video. "I remember he was devastated, and I said to him, 'You are gonna be big.' Now, I didn't know he was going to be *that* big," she added, referencing Ventimiglia's starring roles on *Gilmore Girls*, *Heroes*, and most recently, *This Is Us*. "He's working all the time."

*Rewind* didn't end up being a big break for Shepherd either. After taping six episodes of the comedy, it was canceled just two weeks before it was set to air.

At the time, Fox noted *Rewind* remained a candidate for a midseason slot on its broadcast schedule, however, the sitcom never saw the light of day.

Thirty years later, the actress got to reconnect with Ventimiglia on her daytime talk show, *Sherri*, and reminisce about *Rewind*.

Although his firing wasn't mentioned, Ventimiglia did recall his disappointment in the show being canceled as well as Shepherd's prophetic reassurance.

"I was bummed. I was 18 at the time, it was my first job at Warner Brothers," he said on *Sherri* in February. "'What do I do now? Do I go back to school? Do I go back to waiting tables? … I remember you told me, 'Hey, don't worry about you. You're going to do great. You're going to have a nice career.'"

Shepherd revealed she had never been able to tell Ventimiglia how proud she was of him, since they hadn't crossed paths since *Rewind*.

"I saw in you a star," she gushed. "I was so incredibly proud every time I would see you book something. And I would tell people, 'I know Milo!' Nobody believed me. Like, up until you came on the show, nobody believed that I knew you... [*Rewind*] never came on, so there's no pictures anywhere."

Ventimiglia vouched that not only did he indeed know Shepherd, "she's one of the first actors I've looked up to and given me advice," he told the *Sherri* cameras, "[and] has propelled my career to where I sit now."

Lorna Luft is thrilled that *The Wizard of Oz** *still resonates almost 90 years later.

The daughter of Judy Garland, who played Dorothy in the 1939 film, reflected on the movie's impact and how its magic hasn't faded in the decades since. The film has experienced a resurgence in popularity since it began screening at the Las Vegas Sphere last August.

"It's about home. It's about heart. It's about courage, and it's about knowledge," Luft told PEOPLE of the technicolor movie musical.

"All of us in our lives feel that emotion at some point." Another universal takeaway from *The Wizard of Oz *is its message of "good against evil," Luft said. "I think we also go through that in our lives."

*The Wizard of Oz *is based on the 1900 book by L. Frank Baum, which was a "huge book" at the time, Luft said, pointing out that it "was really the Harry Potter of its time."

Luft also explained how the movie's transition into technicolor once Dorothy arrives in Oz was "such a huge thing." "They had never seen what we call sepia, but people call it black and white, into color, and into those characters."

Even though the special effects at the time weren't what they are today, Luft said that the performances captivated audiences, and still do now. "It's the acting ability of every single solitary performance of everyone in that film because you believe it."

Luft also told PEOPLE about her reaction to seeing *The Wizard of Oz *at the Sphere, which projects an edited version of the film on a 160,000-square-foot screen and incorporates special effects such as wind, bubbles, and seats with haptic technology.

"It was overwhelming for all of us because it's so massive and you are actually in the movie," she admitted. "We came into Vegas, and we saw the Sphere, and we both literally went ..." Luft paused, describing her awe, "[It] took our breath away." She called the scene with the poppies in particular "so beautiful and so magnificent."

More than anything, Luft is still touched by the impact *The Wizard of Oz *has had on audiences.

The actresses, who are members of Hollywood dynasties, debated how exactly to pronounce "Los Angeles" during their conversation for *Variety *and CNN's "Actors on Actors." Curtis' parents are actors Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh. Hargitay, meanwhile, is the daughter of Jayne Mansfield.

"You explained to me that you were making a doc, you had explained to me that you had come back to Los Angeles, you had gone through the beginning of the storage unit," Curtis said, referring to Hargitay's documentary *My Mom Jayne*. Before the *Freaky Friday** *star could continue, Hargitay paused her.

"I'm trying not to laugh, because you just said Los Angeles," she said, emphasizing the "o" like in the word "ghost."

"Okay, but, what do you call it? Los Feliz," Curtis responded, placing the same emphasis she does in "Los Angeles." Hargitay countered that they're not talking about Los Feliz. "You don't say 'Los Angeles.' If I had a jury here, everyone would vote for me."

The actresses asked those in the studio with them how they would pronounce Los Angeles. While the *Scarpetta** *star pressed their colleagues on their pronunciation, Hargitay had enough.

"Nobody says that. You guys, please God, let's move on," Hargitay concluded, before apologizing to Curtis as she was about to say "deep s--t."

"You can laugh," the Oscar winner reassured the *Law and Order: Special Victims Unit** *star.

Curtis and Hargitay have more in common than their respective Hollywood lineage; in fact, their lifelong connections to showbiz brought them together decades earlier.

"Nobody knows this: You grew up in a pink house on Sunset Boulevard, which was once owned by Sonny and Cher and later purchased by Tony Curtis," Curtis told Hargitay.

"He married this very young woman. He bought this house, and [you and I] met. There is a photograph of us standing in the driveway. We never saw each other after that. You ask yourself, 'Why don’t we know each other when we have so much history with our families?'"

They would later reconnect as adults through actress Amy Landecker, when Hargitay was filming *My Mom Jayne*. Hargitay called their first phone call "so emotional."

"When we have histories like ours, we are in such a unique and singular position that people just can’t understand it unless they’ve lived it. You’re one of the most deeply sensitive, empathetic, and compassionate humans that I’ve met. Your unique lens on my story was extraordinary," Hargitay said.

Elsewhere in their conversation, Curtis praised *My Mom Jayne *as a "gorgeous movie."

"For anyone uninitiated," she said, "that’s how we met, and that’s where the connective tissue is. It’s deep, raw, human, and has nothing to do with show-off business, even though our whole lives have been in show-off business."

Jennifer Lopez is reflecting on the healing process she went through after she and Ben Affleck divorced.

"After my last divorce, I just sat there, and I was like, I canceled my tour, I sat there and I was just like, 'You need to f---ing figure yourself out,'" the Office Romance star said.

Office Romance is now streaming on Netflix.

Jennifer Lopez is still healing. And that's okay.

While discussing her past two years of healing following her divorce from Ben Affleck, the Office Romanceactress reflected on how she's changed. Lopez called the past five years "a tumult," while the past two years have been "a healing process from that tumult."

"I really got to know myself, and the person I am today is so different than the person I was even two years ago," she told Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett on their podcast SmartLess. Lopez said that the healing process allowed her to appreciate her life and what she created for herself.

"Do you recognize that that can be a real accomplishment for somebody in your position?" Bateman asked Lopez.

"There's been different times where I felt like — whether people outside knew it or not — my life blew up in my own face," Lopez said.

"It was because of the choices I made but also because of the fact that I had things that needed to change about myself that I didn't understand or recognize that was attracting certain things and attracting a certain type of experience into my life," she added.

Lopez continued, "After my last divorce, I just sat there, and I was like, I canceled my tour, I sat there and I was just like, 'You need to f---ing figure yourself out. What is going on with you? Forget about everybody else. There's nobody to blame here except yourself in a certain way.'"

She concluded, "Not that people don't behave in a way that's not great, but what are you doing? What do you have going on? That was a turning point for me. And that was a couple of years ago now."

Lopez and Affleck have a history together. The former couple met on the set of the film Gigliand began dating in 2001 and got engaged in 2002. Affleck famously made a cameo in the 2003 music video for Lopez's "Jenny From the Block." They never made it down the aisle at the time, announcing their spilt in 2004 due to overwhelming media attention.

In 2021, they reunited, eloping the following year in Las Vegas before having a larger reception with family and friends in Georgia in August 2022. Lopez filed for divorce from Affleck in August 2024. Their divorce was finalized in December 2025.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle praised the U.K.'s decision to ban kids under 16 from major social media platforms

The couple emphasized the need for tech companies to prioritize children's safety over profit and engagement

Their Archewell Philanthropies continues to advocate for safer online spaces and support families impacted by online harms

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are reacting to big news in the U.K. involving youth and technology.

On June 15, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex released a statement praising British Prime Minister Keir Starmer's announcement that young people under age 16 will be banned from major social media platforms, including TikTok, Snapchat and Instagram.

"We welcome the U.K. Government's announcement of new measures to better protect children online," began the statement from Prince Harry, 41, and Meghan, 44, about the monumental decision in his home country.

"The stories shared through The Lost Screen Memorial remind us that behind every debate about technology and regulation are real families whose lives have been forever changed," the couple continued, referring to The Lost Screen Memorial from their charity, Archewell Philanthropies. "While measures such as these may help reduce harm, they do not fix the problem at its source. Lasting change requires safer platforms by design, meaningful accountability, and a commitment to putting children's wellbeing ahead of engagement and profit."

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex argued that "The burden cannot rest solely on parents and children" and the responsibility of safer tech "must also be borne by the companies." The couple are parents to two young children, Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4.

"Until then, every day without meaningful change is another day that children remain exposed to preventable harm," they said. "Stronger protections are better than inaction, and today's announcement is a welcome step forward."

Harry and Meghan responded on the same day that British premier Starmer announced the decision, which the reported is expected to take effect next year. The move puts the U.K. on track to join Australia, Canada, Brazil and Indonesia in introducing such legislation or regulating children's access to online content, and Britain's ban will apply to TikTok, Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, X and YouTube.

Prince Harry and Meghan have made advocating for a safer online world a focus of their charitable work since stepping back from their royal roles in the U.K. and moving to the U.S. in 2024, their charitable Archewell Foundation, which was renamed Archewell Philanthropies late last year, unveiled The Parents' Network as a resource and community for families who lost a child to social media-driven suicide or whose children have struggled because of online harms.

In partnership with The Parents' Network, Archewell introduced the Lost Screen Memorial in New York City in April 2025 as part of the No Child Lost to Social Media campaign.

While Archewell has since transferred the Parents Network to the nonprofit ParentsTogether, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have continued their mission to protect children from online harms. In May, Meghan attended the unveiling of the Lost Screen Memorial in Geneva ahead of the kickoff of the 79th World Health Assembly.

She began her speech there by stating that safe online spaces are "not simply a technology issue," but a "public health issue," and called on the global community to install greater safeguards for the next generation.

In March, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex applauded a a Los Angeles jury's ruling that found Meta and YouTube liable for negligence in a landmark social media addiction case, describing the call as a turning point for families.

UFC president and CEO Dana White is not happy with Josh Hokit after the fighter insulted former first lady Michelle Obama at the White House's Freedom 250 event on Sunday.

Following his heavyweight victory against Derrick Lewis in the fourth fight of the night, Hokit made a crude comment about Obama during a chat with emcee Joe Rogan on the Paramount+ broadcast — as President Donald Trump sat nearby.

"Hey, shout out to Trump for having the balls to put on some s--t like this," Hokit said in his postfight interview in the Octagon, during which he also praised God.

Before exiting the ring, he finished his speech with, "Lastly, Michelle Obama is a man. Am I right, America?"

Groans could be heard from the South Lawn following the comment, which Rogan seemingly ignored, simply stating, "Ladies and gentlemen, Josh Hokit."

Although Hokit's words were not addressed during the broadcast, White later told TIME he does not condone that kind of behavior.

"I understand that the Obamas are public figures but I’m completely against saying nasty and false things about people’s families," White wrote in a text message to the outlet. "Everyone knows my position on free speech but I hate that kind of nonsense."

* *has reached out to UFC, Paramount+, and the White House for comments. EW has also contacted a rep for Obama, but no statements about Hokit's insult were shared at the time of publication.

In the lead-up to the event, White said he didn’t see the White House UFC fight as political, but rather something all Americans could take in.

"I love this country, and this event was for America's 250th birthday. There was no political agenda or anything like that," White said on Sunday, according to ESPN.

"The fact that the president of the United States trusted me, they could have had anything. There's tons of things going on in this city up until July 4 to celebrate. The fact that he trusted me to do this and to deliver tonight and we did," said White.

White sat next to President Trump and first lady Melania Trump in the front row, as most of the fighters shared how honored they were to be competing in the evening's wild festivities, which aimed to celebrate veterans, first responders, and the president's 80th birthday.

CNN reported that Trump "appeared to show a half-smile" seconds after Hokit’s remark about the former first lady. The *New York Post* also reported, however, that Trump removed a medallion Hokit placed around his neck shortly after he shouted out the transphobic insult.

Even comedian Shane Gillis, who's been in hot water for his own distasteful jokes, wasn't a fan of Hokit's words.

"I didn't love that," Gill, who was in attendance at the UFC event, told *TMZ*. "Nah, I don't like that [bleep]."

During a 2024 campaign rally for Kamala Harris, Obama slammed Trump's "childish, mean-spirited antics" and expressed a deep frustration with the public, who often gives him a pass despite his behavior.

"I am asking y'all from the core of my being to take [women's] lives seriously — please," Obama added. "Do not put our lives in the hands of politicians — mostly men — who have no clue or do not care about what we, as women, are going through."

Hokit used the same insult earlier against WNBA star Brittney Griner this year following a fight during a UFC event in January.

At the time, Rogan, who also hosted that event, said, "Brittney Griner catching strays." White didn't approve of the remark, saying, "I heard about it. I didn’t see it. I don’t love it."

Hokit hasn't responded to EW's request for comment.

In another sign of the chaos behind the scenes at 60 Minutes, the show's new executive producer, Nick Bilton, reportedly tried to rehire one of the editors who had been previously fired by CBS News editor-in-chief Bari Weiss.

According to Oliver Darcy's Status newsletter, Bilton tried to convince former executive editor Draggan Mihailovich to return to the show, just weeks after he was ousted by Weiss. Bilton reportedly asked 60 Minutes correspondents Lesley Stahl, Bill Whitaker, and Jon Wertheim to contact Mihailovich to see whether he'd be willing to come back.

Mihailovich, who started as a producer on 60 Minutes II in 1999 before moving to 60 Minutes in 2004, is said to have declined the offer.

"Bilton's openness to potentially rehiring the show's top editor amounts to yet another acknowledgment that Weiss badly misjudged when she carried out her ill-conceived firings at 60 Minutes," Darcy wrote. "Indeed, it is difficult to interpret the move as anything but an admission that perhaps Mihailovich should not have been pushed out to begin with."

Last month, Weiss fired Mihailovich, alongside 60 Minutes executive producer Tanya Simon and correspondents Cecilia Vega and Sharyn Alfonsi. The firings were met with backlash both inside and outside of CBS News, including from longtime 60 Minutes correspondent Scott Pelley, who aired his grievances during a staff meeting.

Pelley confronted Bilton, who was hired to replace Simon, telling him he had "slender qualifications" for the job. He also blasted Weiss' takeover of CBS News, claiming that she's "murdering 60 Minutes." Pelley was subsequently terminated "for cause, effective immediately."

Bilton has been attempting to cleanup the mess at 60 Minutes, including hiring renowned producer Maria Gavrilovic, who worked closely with Pelley. According to Status, some staffers have appreciated Bilton's efforts, while others remain skeptical.

The new producer also managed to convince Stahl, Whitaker, and Wertheim to remain with the show. Last week, the three reporters put out a joint statement to announce they would stick with the show to "try to repair and preserve" its reputation.

"If we can continue doing the work that made this show what it is—committing acts of independent, fearless journalism and storytelling—we're here for it," the group wrote. "If not, we leave." However, they also noted that their decision to stay should not be "construed as an endorsement of the existing power structure."
