TAIPEI, May 25 (Reuters) - A call between the U.S. and Taiwanese leaders would be a positive thing but it is up to President Donald Trump to take ‌the initiative and the two sides have not had any planning talks, Taiwan's foreign ‌minister said on Monday.

A call between the two leaders would be unprecedented and risk roiling Washington's ties with Beijing, which views democratically governed Taiwan as its own territory. U.S. and Taiwanese presidents have not spoken directly since Washington shifted diplomatic recognition to Beijing from Taipei in 1979.

Trump said again last Wednesday he would speak with Taiwan President Lai Ching-te, dispelling initial speculation that his first mention of it ‌after meeting Chinese President Xi Jinping earlier this month was a verbal slip.

Taking lawmaker questions at parliament, Taiwan Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung said the initiative to make the call was up to Trump but that there have been no bilateral consultations yet about it, which would happen if the call were to take place.

"If there were a phone call between the heads of state of the United States and Taiwan, I think we would view that very positively," Lin said.

"I believe ‌the president's side is well prepared," he added, referring to Lai. "But of course, this also depends on President Trump and how he might proactively bring it about."

Lai said last week that if he got the opportunity to speak to Trump, he would say China was undermining peace and nobody has the right to "annex" the island. Lai did not say whether any call had ‌been set up.

Reuters reported on Friday that the U.S. and Taiwan have not made concrete plans for talks between their presidents.

At stake is the future of a new $14 billion arms sale package for Taiwan, which Trump has said ‌he is yet to make a decision on. In December, Washington approved $11 billion in weapons for Taiwan, the largest to date.

Both Taipei and Washington have said that U.S. policy towards Taiwan remains unchanged after the Trump-Xi meeting.

The U.S. is bound by the 1979 Taiwan Relations ‌Act to provide Taiwan with the means to defend itself.

Lai, who rejects Beijing's sovereignty claims, has repeatedly offered talks with China but been rebuffed. Beijing calls him a "separatist".

Drag is magic. But it's also tragic if you're Ariel Versace on the receiving end of a hilarious pop off in the midst of Wig Gate.

*RuPaul's Drag Race* season 11 winner Yvie Oddly and Miss Congeniality Nina West stopped by the most recent episode of *EW's BINGE* podcast to tell hosts Joey Nolfi and Jillian Sederholm about a particularly testy, unaired moment that saw the latter queen — regarded as one of the kindest, gentlest souls in the RuGirl family — losing it in the middle of the season's most peculiar controversies.

"Wig Gate was such a big thing for our season," West said, as Oddly chimed in about the "so stupid" moment that, in the simplest of terms, sort of (but then later sort of didn't) involve various queens being accused of stealing Versace's wigs after her elimination. Tensions flared up over the confusion when the previously eliminated queens returned to the Werk Room for the perennial makeover challenge. "I completely lost my cool. All of those girls came back on my elimination episode," West recalls. "At this point, I was really raw. I had a feeling that this just might be my time, I was like, I think I'm going home. It was right when those girls walked in, and Ariel looked over at my station and she goes, 'That's my wig!' and I completely lost my s---. I don't think there were any cameras on me. I was like, I don't know why she would accuse me of stealing, I don't need to steal! Ariel and I have obviously talked about it since, because I popped off as the most Nina West pop off I've ever done."

Oddly also remembers the moment with a laugh, mimicking West's tone as she delivered a fatal, verbal blow to Versace after the accusation: "You cut her off immediately like, 'No, no, no, no, sweetie! That's *my* wig. It, unfortunately, *looks* like it's styled like one of your wigs!'"

Elsewhere on the episode, Oddly discusses an update on her overall health and the status of her Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, what her hot dad has been up to in quarantine, the difficulties queens of color face after graduating from the show, and another tense moment with that dreaded magician who guest-starred on the magic show challenge episode.

Brandi Glanville shared on her podcast she thinks she recently contracted "sexually transmitted ringworm."

"I knew nothing about it," Glanville said of having to learn about the sexually transmitted infection.

The former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star has gone public about a plethora of health issues that were caused by damaged breast implants.

Brandi Glanville is opening up about a new health issue.

The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alumna shared her concern that she may have contracted a "sexually transmitted ringworm" on the May 21 episode of her podcast Brandi Glanville Unfiltered.

Glanville felt she had this particular sexually transmitted infection in her throat, she told with guest and former adult film actress Lisa Ann. Sexually transmitted ringworm can be highly contagious, can spread through direct skin-to-skin contact during sexual activity, and is caused by the fungus Trichophyton mentagrophytes genotype VII (TMVII).

"I was dating, I was seeing someone in that industry," Glanville explained. "He would only, you know, my face. He would because he didn't want to get me pregnant. He didn't know that ship had sailed."

Glanville said that while she recently got tested for gonorrhea and chlamydia, she had just learned what sexually transmitted ringworm was from a friend.

"I knew nothing about it... Apparently, you can see them when it's on the outside of your skin, but they can burrow in like if it's in your throat, they can burrow deep into your ears and all that," Glanville added.

Ann explained the STI is "very common" within the adult film industry, saying "So it's one of these things that most people don't know what to look for. And we had to train our makeup artists that when a new member of talent would show up, they would have to get naked in a window where there's good light and they would inspect their body to see if they see any patches because it's incredibly contagious."

During the podcast, Glanville's co-host James Maas brought up other ongoing health issues for the reality star. Glanville has struggled for years and spent thousands of dollars trying to determine the cause for a multitude of health issues including facial disfigurement, eventually learning she got a facial parasite due to her ruptured breast implants that caused silicone to leak into her body.

"Knocking the silicone out really helped. You could see it. It was like night and day," Maas said of Glanville. "Just seeing her like in the last six weeks, like not having silicon leaking into your body, it's like seeing someone go from gray to color again."

A sonogram revealed the dangerous leak, Glanville said in February.

"The woman [who] did the sonogram was like, 'Brandi, you need to get those out yesterday. She's like, 'You have a slow leak in your left [implant] and your right [implant] is completely ruptured, and it's in all of your lymph nodes under both arms," Glanville shared.

Having seen over 20 doctors to address her medical issues, Glanville expressed she's "scared to death" over learning the root cause.

"It's something that I could die from if I hadn't figured it out," she said.

Donny Osmond is a grandfather of 16.

The "Soldier of Love" singer and his wife Debbie Osmond have their hands full — in the best way possible, of course — with the kids of their five sons, Don Jr., Jeremy, Brandon, Chris and Josh.

Over the years, Donny has given several glimpses of his family's tight-knit bond as they celebrate holidays together and attend his concerts. In June 2025, he shared a series of photos on Facebook captioned, "16 grandchildren and counting!"

But during big family events, Donny tries to sit back and enjoy being a grandpa.

"I'm the head of the family with my wife, but I kind of take a backseat when we're all together because I let my boys take over," he told PEOPLE in August 2023. "I consciously make an effort to take a back seat and just be grandpa, not a celebrity, not the head of the house with my wife, none of that. It's just like grandpa's in the corner playing with the grandkids. That's what I like to do."

Take a look back at some of Osmond's sweetest moments with his grandchildren below.

Everyone agrees we need more to build homes - but will it happen?

Labour made delivering 1.5m new homes for England by 2029 a key pledge in its campaign towards a landslide General Election win in 2024.

But BBC research has found the number of homes being built, overall, across North, South and West Yorkshire fell in the government's first year in power.

Our figures - the most recent available and from the House of Commons Library - found an 11% drop in the number of new houses completed in the year up to April 2025 compared to the previous 12 months.

Of 11 local authorities in the region, five saw a decrease in the number of new builds. Sheffield was down 800 homes, from 1,885 to 1,050, a drop of more than 40%. There was also a 40% reduction in completions in Doncaster - down 492, from 1,234 to 742.

Barnsley saw a reduction of 125 units, from 625 down to 550. Kirklees was down 149, from 989 to 840.

North Yorkshire Council recorded a drop of 373 new builds, down to 2,356 from 2,729, a 14% reduction.

Where there were increases, they were mostly modest, with new builds up by five properties overall in York, from 390 to 395; seven in Calderdale, from 341 to 348; 21 in Rotherham, up to 771 from 750; and three in Bradford, 976 to 979, year-on-year.

Leeds had the biggest increase in Labour's first 12 months, with 335 more new builds, the total number of new homes rising to 3,761 from 3,426, up just under 10%.

The government pointed out that mandatory local housing targets had been introduced and the planning system overhauled to encourage residential development. There is also a project to build 10,000 new homes in the South Bank, near Leeds city centre.

A Local Government Association spokesperson said: "Local government shares the collective national ambition to tackle the housing crisis, which will only be achieved with strong national and local leadership working together."

Developers and major housebuilders want to deliver new properties, many of them marketed at first-time buyers and younger families who want to get onto the housing ladder. Yet in many rural communities, campaigners fight planning applications for new estates, citing pressure on local services and the loss of countryside.

Nick Atkin is chief executive of Yorkshire Housing, which manages about 20,000 homes, and aims to build 500 new ones each year.

He said the 1.5m national target was "really challenging," but, he said, the real measure of whether Labour's housebuilding plans have been successful "shouldn't be a single figure that was made at the election".

"The focus should be on what can be delivered as a result of the government's announcement at the end of last year, that it's investing £39bn for affordable and social homes over the next decade.

"The key test is whether we see a year-on-year increase in the number of affordable homes. I'm confident we will start to see that coming through soon," Atkin said.

'Take time'

Asked about the government's changes to the planning system, Atkin said builders were "starting to see the positive impact".

He welcomed the commitment from York and North Yorkshire's councils, and the region's elected mayor, to "deliver" 60,000 new homes.

Atkin said: "At least 25,000 of those homes will be for affordable rent. We can now see the pipeline of new homes across Yorkshire is increasing at a scale we have not experienced for a considerable time.

"They do take time to come on line and for people to get the keys and move in.

"We can see the scale is there, the commitment is there, the funding is there. It's just unfortunate, and I understand the frustration, but to build a new home, from the moment you acquire the land to the moment somebody can move in, that period is usually two to three years."

Yet the reality is that many of those 60,000 new homes will be built in areas where existing residents do not want them.

Local protest groups are regularly forming across Yorkshire to object to developments through the council planning system.

'At capacity'

Many say they are not simply NIMBYs - meaning not in my back yard - who want to look out over open fields rather than someone else's house, but that they have genuine concerns about pressure on sewage and drainage networks, GP services, roads and school places.

The system does require developers to make proportionate contributions towards local services, such as funding schools, medical centres and the building of access roads. Amenities such as children's playgrounds and other recreation areas often form part of these applications too.

For example, a scheme for more than 200 homes near Wombwell was approved by Barnsley Council in February despite objections from the community.

However, the builder's Section 106 agreement required them to pay £1m towards education and £170,000 for travel improvements.

One North Yorkshire campaign, in Hunmanby, near Filey, is opposing a Banks Property plan to build more than 100 new homes in a field on the edge of the village.

The group, called Hunmanby Against Further 'Ousing Development, or HAFOD, said the plans are a threat to wildlife, as a pond in the field is home to protected great crested newts.

Group member Phil Sainter said: "There is a wonderful ecosystem in that field. "There are other issues too, the village is at capacity. The infrastructure's not changed for 70 years, we just can't take a development of 125 houses."

A spokesman for Banks said the firm had signed up to Natural England's "longstanding" district-level licensing scheme.

The scheme aims to increase the number of great crested newts by providing large-scale new or better habitats in targeted areas, the spokesman said.

He added: "All our project plans cover every aspect of each proposed development in great detail, including ecology, the environment and biodiversity, and we have a long track record of living up to our responsibilities in every respect of their delivery."

A spokesperson for the ministry of housing, communities and local government said: "All areas, including Yorkshire, must play their part in building the homes this country needs and restore the dream of home ownership."

The Local Government Association spokesperson called for councils to be given greater powers to ensure developers build homes that have already been given planning permission.

"It is essential that council oversight, local knowledge, and community needs are the heart of housebuilding targets, or they risk not being deliverable. When decisions about housing are made locally, they can come with the necessary local infrastructure and affordable homes," the spokesperson said.

CLEVELAND -- Jalen Brunson scored 30 points and Mikal Bridges added 22 as the New York Knicks never trailed in a 121-108 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference finals Saturday night, taking a commanding 3-0 lead in the series.

The third-seeded Knicks have won a franchise-record 10 straight playoff games -- by an average margin of 22.5 points -- and are one win away from their first NBA Finals appearance since 1999. Game 4 is Monday in Cleveland.

Karl-Anthony Towns collected 13 points, eight rebounds and seven assists for New York, which also received 21 points from OG Anunoby. Josh Hart had 12 points, nine rebounds and a playoff career-high tying four steals.

Evan Mobley scored 24 points, Donovan Mitchell had 23 and James Harden added 19 for the fourth-seeded Cavaliers, who appeared fatigued for the second game in a row after playing every other day since April 29. All three players also committed at least five turnovers.

Cleveland needed the full seven games to beat the Toronto Raptors in the first round and the Detroit Pistons in the East semifinals. No NBA team has overcome a 3-0 deficit in any playoff series.

Brunson took over in the third with 12 points, pushing New York out to its largest lead at 83-70. Landry Shamet buried three 3-pointers in a 99-second span early in the fourth and Anunoby delivered the dagger with a 3-pointer that made it 110-93 with 5:30 to go.

The Cavaliers forged their first of two ties at 48-48 on a Harden layup in the second, but the Knicks held a 60-54 advantage at the half. Anunoby scored 13 points in 15 minutes while Harden had 14 points and Mitchell and Jarrett Allen each had 12.

Bridges had four points in the first two minutes as New York jumped in front 9-1, then extended it to 29-19 behind 11 points without a miss from Towns. Mitchell had seven points for Cleveland, which trailed 37-27 after the first.

Knicks coach Mike Brown lost his challenge seven minutes into the first quarter, failing to get a goaltending call against Towns overturned.
