A judge ordered Bilaal Salaam to pay Jada Pinkett Smith over $32,000 in legal fees after a court motion

Salaam's request to reduce the payment due to financial hardship was denied as it was raised too late

The lawsuit stems from Salaam's claims of threats by Pinkett Smith, which she has publicly called "nonsense"

Jada Pinkett Smith scored a win amid her court battle with Will Smith's former friend Bilaal Salaam.

On Monday, May 18, a Los Angeles judge ordered Salaam, 56, to pay the actress $32,836 in attorney costs and other legal fees, according to documents obtained by PEOPLE. The ruling comes three weeks after Pinkett Smith, 54, filed a motion requesting Salaam pay $49,181.23 for "her reasonable attorneys' fees incurred."

The court lowered the amount because some of Pinkett Smith's attorneys billed at "high hourly rates" and spent "excessive" time analyzing complaints and drafting motions despite their "significant experience" as lawyers, per the ruling.

Salaam requested a reduction in the fee award due to his "inability to pay," but the request was denied because it was raised for the first time at the hearing, rather than in opposition papers. The court did, however, consider Salaam's argument that Pinkett Smith only partially prevailed on her Anti-SLAPP motion and therefore found that "a 15% reduction is appropriate, due to Defendant's partial success."

In February, Pinkett Smith had originally asked the court to strike Salaam's complaint entirely, alleging that the lawsuit conflicts with California's anti-SLAPP statute. The state's Anti-SLAPP (strategic lawsuit against public participation) Act "provides a procedure for weeding out, at an early stage, meritless claims arising from protected activity," per the motion.

The protected activity included a cease and desist letter Salaam received from the Smiths, which Pinkett Smith's motion alleged Salaam publicly disclosed: "That letter was not a public statement at all. It was classic pre-litigation activity — confidential legal correspondence sent by counsel in anticipation of litigation — and is independently protected under California law."

According to an April 20 filing previously obtained by PEOPLE, Pinkett Smith "prevailed on her anti-SLAPP motion and struck all allegations relating to the public media statements that formed the basis for Plaintiff's three causes of action, as well as additional allegations regarding a cease-and-desist letter."

Salaam (also known as Brother Bilaal) initially filed the $3 million complaint in December 2025, alleging that the actress confronted him in the lobby of the Regency Calabasas Commons in September 2021 and threatened him. Salaam's complaint also alleged that Pinkett Smith told him he would "end up missing or catch a bullet" if he continued "telling her personal business."

Pinkett Smith subsequently called his claims "nonsense" in a 2023 interview with The Breakfast Club. She also told TMZ that she and her husband intended to pursue legal action in response to his claims.

The next hearing for the case will take place on Aug. 19 as the court denied Salaam's request for a trial.

Eva Longoria has consistently made an impression with her fashion choices at major events. Continuing that trend, Longoria recently turned heads at the Cannes Film Festival 2026 in a dramatic gown by Cong Tri. The ensemble blended classic Hollywood glamour with modern design details.

The Desperate Housewives actress arrived in a black sequined dress that featured a deeply plunging white halter neckline. Meanwhile, the high slit added an extra dramatic touch to the red carpet look.

For the red carpet event, Eva Longoria stepped out in a Cong Tri gown that combined modern fashion with elegant detailing. The color palette complemented Longoria’s complexion, while the fitted silhouette highlighted her frame before flowing into a sleek floor-length skirt that moved with her as she walked.

The gown’s shimmering embellishments gave the outfit a light-catching finish. Longoria paired the ensemble with diamond jewelry and strappy black heels, completing the overall look. Her dark hair was styled in a sleek, straight hairstyle with a center part, which further highlighted her features.

This styling allowed the dress to remain the focal point of the evening. Longoria also wore makeup featuring blushed cheeks and glossy nude lips. The look quickly drew attention online, with fashion fans praising the bold neckline and elegant structure of the Cong Tri design. Known for polished red carpet appearances, Longoria once again showcased a balance between sophistication and bold style.

- Nicholas Galitzine plays He-Man in next month's *Masters of the Universe*.

- The actor has said that he ate up to 5,000 calories per day and worked out constantly to bulk up.

- When he was done filming, Galitzine says he was told by the director of his next project to eat as much as he wants.

Nicholas Galitzine worked brutally hard to achieve the physique needed to star as He-Man in this summer's *Masters of the Universe*. And when filming was done, he was ready to celebrate.

"I was so mentally ready to eat something disgusting," the 31-year-old actor told PEOPLE at the movie's premiere Monday in L.A. "I want to say I had a combination of sushi and pizza, and I just was like, 'Give it. Give it all to me.' So no, it wasn't hard to go there. Given the fact that my next director did not want me to look like He-Man for his movie, he said, 'Eat as much as you want and stop working out.'"

That was a big lifestyle change for Galitzine, who ate up to 5,000 calories per day alongside constant workouts leading up to filming to add bulk.

His reward, then, was everything that he'd hoped.

"Better," Galitzine said. "Food is everything to me. It truly is."

The *Bottoms* actor had previously told PEOPLE that bulking up was "the hardest thing I've ever done."

But his work paid off big.

In April, the film's director, Travis Knight, explained to ** that he'd been stunned when he laid eyes on Galitzine after not seeing him for a few weeks.

"He was training on set as we were in prep," Knight said. "And when I saw him again, I was like, holy s---. I couldn't believe how much he had changed. He had put on so much muscle in such a short period of time. Sometimes I'll look at photos back when I first met him, and it looks like a totally different dude."

The muscles were needed not only because the character — which began as an '80s toy — had to defend his home, Castle Grayskull, but because He-Man requires a barely-there ensemble.

"It's a peculiar thing," Galitzine said, "being in a miniskirt and harness while everyone's fully dressed in puffer jackets and whatnot."

*Masters of the Universe* arrives in theaters June 5.

Mets gave up the silliest inside-the-park HR after outfielders briefly ignored the ball

The 2026 edition of the New York Mets don't just lose a lot, but they also manage to make losing look awfully funny.

Look no further than James Wood's inside-the-park grand slam against the Mets on Tuesday night.

With the Nationals slugger hitting in the second with the bases loaded and the Mets up by five runs, Wood drove a deep fly ball beyond the grasp of a leaping Nick Morabito in left-center field. The ball took a hard ricochet off the wall, but there should have been time for Tyrone Taylor to retrieve the ball and hold Wood to a triple at most.

The problem: Taylor just stood there to check on Morabito ... who was fine.

We could see Morabito point as if to say, "Why are you looking at me?! Get the baseball!

And by the time Taylor did eventually turn around to chase after the ball, Wood was well on his way to the inside-the-park grand slam.

After that, the Nationals kept the scoring going to erase the five-run deficit and win, 9-6. That's the Mets in a nutshell.

An exhibition fight between Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather Jr. will take place in the fall instead of the spring as initially scheduled because Tyson is recovering from a broken hand suffered in training, according to the fight promoters.

Tyson was seen wearing a cast on his right arm in March and, at the time, said he had sprained it during training.

The exhibition match between Tyson, 59, and Mayweather, 49, was initially scheduled for April 25 in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The promoters, brothers Richard Miele and Craig Miele, cited May 30 as the initial fight date. The promoters have not announced a new date or venue but, according to the press release, will do so “shortly.’’

This fall, Mayweather is also scheduled to fight Manny Pacquiao in a professional fight this September in Las Vegas.

Tyson’s right arm drew attention in March when he was wearing a cast. During an appearance on "The Ariel Helwani Show" Tyson said of the apparent injury, “Training, punching stuff. Just a little sprain, I have to go hard, it’s the only way I’ve got to go.’’

Later in the month, during Tyson’s trip to Thailand, there was no sign of the cast in videos and photos of Tyson.

Linda Perry Says She Didn't Think Christina Aguilera Was Right to Sing 'Beautiful' at First: 'No, You're Like, a Hot Chick'

Linda Perry doubted Christina Aguilera was the right fit for her song "Beautiful" — until she heard her sing it

"That's when I discovered... 'Oh, beautiful people are actually insecure and just as damaged as I am,'" she said

"Beautiful" was featured on Stripped and won a Grammy in 2004

Linda Perry didn't think Christina Aguilera was the right fit for her song "Beautiful" — but the pop star quickly proved her wrong.

During an appearance on the Zach Sang Show on Friday, May 8, Perry opened up about how she felt when Aguilera first sang her song "Beautiful," which was eventually featured on Aguilera's 2002 record Stripped.

Shortly after Perry, 61, wrote "Beautiful," Aguilera, 45, visited her in the studio and she played her a demo of the song.

"She was like, 'Okay I want that.' And I'm thinking in my mind, 'No, you're like, a hot chick. I'm not giving you this song. No way. Are you kidding me?'" Perry recalled.

Then, Perry's manager suggested she let the pop star sing it. When she did, the song took on a whole new meaning for the singer-songwriter.

"It made sense," Perry said. "That's when I discovered... Oh, beautiful people are actually insecure and just as damaged as I am."

She continued, "She's just as f---ed up as I am. Okay. And then it broke the ice between the both of us when I saw that."

Perry said that she then forced Aguilera to keep the demo they recorded because of how raw it was — even after the "Genie in a Bottle" singer begged her to re-record.

"That's the version that sold me [and] made me believe she had emotions. That she was insecure, that she was lacking in confidence in certain places, that she needed acceptance and approval," she said. "I said, 'Christina, what is wonderful about this vocal is you didn't know what you were doing. That's why it's going to be huge, because so many people are going to relate to this imperfect vocal. That's what this song is about. Not being perfect... I think that's an art that needs to come back.'"

In 2004, "Beautiful" won Best Female Pop Vocal Performance at the Grammy Awards, and was nominated for Song of the Year. The song also peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100.

On the 20th anniversary of Stripped, Aguilera released an music video for the hit song featuring young children tied to their phones. The pop star didn't appear in the video but she did share a message about the anniversary at the very end.

"In the last 20 years, since Stripped was first released, social media has transformed our relationship with our bodies, and in turn our mental health," the message read. "Research suggests that time spent on social networking sites is associated with body image issues, self-harm and disordered eating in children and teens. This needs to change."

- Steven Spielberg is entering the race to become Earth's alien ambassador.

- The *E.T. *director revealed he thinks he'd be a good fit for the position, even though Barack Obama called dibs on the role earlier this month.

- “I love Barack. We're friends. I love him. I love his family, but he's had his eight years, you know?” Spielberg said.

Good luck to literally anyone else hoping to become Earth’s alien ambassador now that both Steven Spielberg *and* Barack Obama are vying for the role.

Spielberg, the director who shaped the world’s perception of extraterrestrial life with films like *E.T. *and *Close Encounters of the Third Kind*, explained why he considers himself to be a better candidate for the position than the former president on Tuesday’s episode of *The Late Show*.

“I think I should represent — I mean, my whole thing is it should be me!” Spielberg declared to loud cheers from the audience. Host Stephen Colbert replied, “Everybody wants the gig!”

The filmmaker, whose upcoming film *Disclosure Day* also involves aliens, made it clear that he bears no ill will toward Obama in their fictional job race.

“I love Barack. We're friends. I love him,” he emphasized. “I love his family, but he's had his eight years, you know?”

And, besides, Spielberg’s got some pretty stellar qualifications of his own, too. “I think the whole thing is, I made *Close Encounters*,” he said. “My first alien movie, I was 17 years old, was called *Firelight*, an 8-millimeter. I made *E.T. *and I co-produced *Men in Black* and *War of the Worlds*.”

Colbert interjected, “Now you’re just bragging.”

***Get your daily dose of entertainment news, celebrity updates, and what to watch with our ******EW Dispatch newsletter******.***

“No, I'm not bragging,” Spielberg said, defending himself and his alien credentials. “Here’s the point I'm trying to make: I've made all these movies where I've kind of played an ambassadorial role. They've never shown themselves to me. Why is that? It's so unfair.”

When Colbert suggested that aliens are afraid of contacting Spielberg in case he uses footage of them in one of his films, the director replied, “I have no idea, but I'm available, guys!”

Earlier this month, Obama revealed that he believed he’d make a “good emissary for the planet” if humans ever make contact with aliens. "I've got a diverse background, some experience in statecraft and diplomacy. I'm friendly," the former president said on the May 5 episode of *The Late Show*. "So I actually think I could do a pretty good job."

He also shot down speculation that the government knew more about aliens than it was telling Americans.

“This idea of conspiracy theories… If there were aliens or alien spaceships or anything under the control of the United States government that we knew about — seen photographs, what have you — I promise you some guy guarding the installation would have taken a selfie with one of the aliens and sent it to his girlfriend to impress her,” he said. “It would leak!”

Donald Trump also beamed himself into the alien conversation, posting an AI-generated image of himself walking alongside a super tall and shredded alien in handcuffs on a military base over the weekend.
