Shania Twain is the hostess with the most show-stopping style.

On Sunday, May 17, the country singer, 60, turned heads in an dazzling look at the 61st Academy of Country Music Awards, where she'll serve as host for the evening.

The "You're Still the One" artist wore a floor-length silver strapless sequin gown, to kick off festivities on the red carpet. The metallic ensemble was not only designed with a glittery print of an animal silhouette, it also featured gray sashes that gave the piece movement. Accessorizing the look were a pair of studded leather gloves and pendant earrings with a coordinating necklace.

Equally head-turning was her glam. Twain, known for her evolving hairstyles, rocked new bangs teamed with long auburn locks.

On Wednesday, April 22, the five-time Grammy winner was announced as the host of the 2026 ACM Awards in Las Vegas — marking her first time hosting the annual ceremony.

“I'm thrilled to be hosting the 61st ACM Awards in Las Vegas, a place that feels like home,” said Twain in a statement. “It's such an honor to be part of this incredible night celebrating Country Music's biggest stars, especially with so many talented women leading nominations this year. I can't wait to welcome all of the fans and artists out for this unforgettable night.”

On social media, the singer added, "First time hosting the @acmawards!! Now what will I wear? 🤠 looking forward to a night of Country Music and celebrating musical talent in my favourite city!"

Twain has won five ACM Awards in the past, including the Poet's Award in 2022, Entertainer of the Year in 2000, the Double-Diamond Award for The Woman in Me and Come on Over in 1999 and both Album of the Year for The Woman in Me as well as Top New Female Vocalist in 1996.

The 2026 ACM Awards nominations were announced earlier this month. Megan Moroney led the pack, followed by Miranda Lambert with eight. Ella Langley and Lainey Wilson each received seven nods. Other top nominees included Chris Stapleton, Zach Top and Cody Johnson.

Dua Lipa made an appearance at Cannes Film Festival on May 16.

She wore an avant garde LBD with a looping shredded skirt.

The dress comes from Jacquemus's fall/winter 2026 line.

Dua Lipa has touched down in Cannes—and, unsurprisingly, she's already making quite the sartorial statement. Appearing at an after party following the premiere of Paper Tiger at the film festival on May 16, the actress wore a dramatic avant garde LBD. The singer also shared photos of the look on Instagram from earlier in the day, when she wore the same dress while paying a visit to the Foundation Maeght, an art gallery in Saint Paul de Vence. In the carousel, she posed outside the museum and amongst the modern art inside.

The LBD was featured as part of Jacquemus's fall/winter 2026 line. It featured long sleeves and a fitted scoop neck bodice along with an angular drop waist. The avant garde midiskirt features looping shredded pieces with white underlay, creating a swishy, almost pom pom- like effect. Lipa paired the modern dress with strappy heeled sandals and wore her hair long and straight down her back. She completed the look with a rosy, glowy makeup look featuring a deep, dusty red lip.

Lipa previously wore another daring look at the festival—upon her arrival, she was pictured in a deep purple sheer corset dress, which she paired with hot pink heels and a matching bag.

Lipa last attended the film festival in 2023 when she appeared on the red carpet at a screening of Omar la Fraise, produced by her then-partner Romain Gavras.

Lipa is now engaged to actor Callum Turner. “Yeah, we’re engaged,” Lipa told British Voguelast summer. “It’s very exciting.”

SEOUL, May 18 (Reuters) - North Korean leader Kim Jong Un said ‌plans to strengthen frontline ‌units on the border with South Korea, as well as other major units, were key to "more thoroughly deter war," state media KCNA reported on Monday.

Kim ‌made the ⁠remarks on Sunday at a meeting of commanders of ⁠divisions and brigades across the army, KCNA said.

He called for adjusting the training system and expanding practical drills ‌to reflect changes in modern warfare and the development of North Korea's military, according to KCNA.

Kim also said planned projects should redefine operational ‌concepts in line with rapid modernisation of military and technical equipment, and apply ‌them to unit combat training.

KCNA said Kim stressed ideological loyalty and vigilance against the "arch enemy," a term North ‌Korea has used for South Korea.

This summer, four teams — Cape Verde, Curaçao, Jordan and Uzbekistan — will make their debut at the World Cup, showing off their national pride at the global tournament for the first time in their history.

It’s the largest group of debutantes since 2006, thanks in part to the newly-expanded 48-team field. They’ll be plenty of exciting players playing for the first time at the tournament this year, but here are a few to keep an eye as the debutantes take to the field.

Ryan Mendes, Cape Verde

Cape Verde, a tiny archipelago nation off the western coast of Africa, will be led into the global tournament by captain Ryan Mendes. Mendes, a 36-year-old midfielder, has 16 years of experience on the national team and has helped lead the team to some impressive results over the past few years.

Born in Mindelo, the second-biggest city in Cape Verde, Mendes played his first game in 2010, and has seen the team grow while playing nearly 5,000 minutes for his country.

Mendes is a living legend for Cape Verde, holding the most caps and the most goals in the national team’s history. After joining the Blue Sharks’ roster as a teenager, Mendes has played in 71 matches across competitions and has picked up 15 goals and six assists in that time, per FBRef.

“Ever since 2010 that I’ve been here, it hasn’t changed. The difference now is that there is a little more quality, and you can see that on the pitch. But on a human level, it’s always been the same,” Mendes told FIFA in December.

Leandro and Juninho Bacuna, Curaçao

As the smallest country to play in the World Cup, it’s not a huge surprise that Curaçao would pull two of its players from the same talented family. This summer, the Blue Wave’s midfield will be anchored by a pair of brothers: team captain Leandro Bacuna and his younger brother Juninho Bacuna.

The Netherlands-born brothers both have Premier League experience and are at the core of the Curaçaoan starting lineup. Leandro, 34, has played for the team since 2016 and is one of the most-capped players on the team; Juninho, 28, is a more recent arrival, but has joined his brother as one of the country’s biggest all-time scorers. (The two also have an older brother, Johnsen, who is also a professional soccer player.)

Although Juninho represented the Netherlands at the youth level, he eventually made his one-time switch to Curaçao to join his older brother. In an interview with FIFA published last week, Leandro said that he convinced his brother to make the national switch in 2019, after Curaçao played in the Concacaf Gold Cup.

“He was still waiting, playing for the U-21s in Holland. He (was) waiting for his chance for the Dutch national team. But then we played (the Gold) Cup in America, and I called him and said: ‘I need some help.’ And he said: ‘OK, next time, when I can, I will come and join you,’” Leandro told FIFA. “For me, it’s a very nice thing to play with your brother. I think you don’t really get a lot of opportunities to do that, and to represent your own country, and to play together.”

Ali Olwan, Jordan

One of the biggest stars of the Jordanian team is Ali Olwan, a young forward who was absolutely key to their run to the World Cup.

At 26, Olwan is already the hero for Jordan. In World Cup qualifiers last June, the forward scored a hat trick to lead Jordan over Oman and eventually clinch the country’s first-ever tournament berth. Olwan’s three goals started with a penalty scored in first-half stoppage time, before two tricky on-the-move finishes in the 50th and 63rd minutes.

In total, Olwan had nine goals across the qualifiers last summer, bringing him up to 18 goals across competitions for his country, per FBRef. The surging forward will hope to bring that energy into the tournament as Jordan navigates a tricky Group J that includes the defending champions, Argentina.

Eldor Shomurodov, Uzbekistan

For Uzbekistan, the captain’s armband will be worn by forward Eldor Shomurodov, who enters the World Cup as one of the team’s most veteran and prolific players. Shomurodov has been representing Uzbekistan since 2015, when he was 19. In that time, he’s racked up 79 caps — the most of any active player on Uzbekistan’s roster — and scored 39 goals, an all-time record for the country.

Crucially, Shomurodov has led Uzbekistan through a high-profile global tournament before. The country made its Olympic debut at the 2024 Paris Olympics two years. Though Uzbekistan did not make it out of the group stage, Shomurodov made history by scoring the country’s first-ever Olympic goal, with a penalty kick against Spain in first half stoppage time.

Now, the 30-year-old will aim to make a little more history with Uzbekistan this summer.

- Curry Barker's new horror film, *Obsession,* follows a man who gets more than he bargained for when he wishes that his crush would love him back.

- The filmmaker, 26, reveals he shot two versions of the ending.

- He explains why, after getting his dad's feedback, he decided to go with the ending he hadn't originally intended to use.

**This article contains major spoilers for *Obsession*.**

Curry Barker didn't let his obsession get in the way of a perfect ending.

The 26-year-old director tells * *he had a clear vision for the conclusion of his second horror feature, *Obsession*, which follows a nebbish young man named Bear (Michael Johnston), who gets a lot more than he bargained for when he wishes for his crush, Nikki (Inde Navarrette), to love him "more than anyone in the f---ing world."

"I was really obsessed with this *Romeo and Juliet* ending, actually," the filmmaker teases of his original idea, which he shot but didn't end up using after his dad (and others) talked him out of it.

In the final version now in theaters, the twisted story ends with Bear dying by suicide, thus releasing Nikki from the power of his magic wish — made by snapping a "One Wish Willow" stick, a gag gift he bought at a novelty store that, it turns out, actually works.

While under its spell, Nikki loses control of her body and mind, overtaken by a dark, desperate version of herself who will do anything — from self-harm to straight up murder — to spend every waking second by Bear's side.

In Barker's original "*Romeo and Juliet* ending," that nightmare ends with Nikki taking her own life as well.

"We shot both; we shot this ending that you see in the movie, and we shot the ending where she ends it all," Barker says. "We had shot a ton of different versions of the official ending, the one that's in the script, the one that I was excited about, and I was like, *Okay, we'll do one ending where [Nikki] survives, but we'll just do one take of it, and then we'll move on.*"

The director allowed only one take for this version because of the complicated setup — the scene unfolds without any cuts and involves a complex, upside-down camera movement.

"It was a very technical shot, and so we only gave her one where she survives," he explains. But Navarrette's "performance was so good," Barker says, he had to reconsider his initial plan.

"You see her coming to this realization that she's alive again, and she's looking around the room, and she looks so disturbed, and I just remember my dad and multiple people around me being like, 'Dude, I think it's way more disturbing if she just survives this thing.' I was like, 'Ah, you're right.' And so we switched it."

When Nikki, bloodied and battered, regains control of herself and looks around the room, she finds Bear, one of her best friends before his fateful wish, dead in her hands, and another close friend (and casual hookup), Ian (Cooper Tomlinson), also deceased; she had shot him in the head moments earlier while still possessed.

If waking up to all that doesn't sound disturbing enough, Barker says Nikki also retains her memories of being trapped in a kind of purgatory while under the spell of the One Wish Willow.

"I think she's experienced awful, awful things in there," he shares. "I think she's pretty traumatized by what she saw, and she's traumatized by not having control of her body. That's kind of why the* Romeo and Juliet* ending works for me, because she was taking control for the first time in a while."

Barker knows he's not the first to tell a cautionary tale about being careful what you wish for — the basic premise for *Obsession*, he's noted, is loosely inspired by the first segment of *The Simpsons' *"Treehouse of Horror II," itself a parody of W. W. Jacobs's short story "The Monkey's Paw." What separates his take on the narrative archetype, he says, is the way *Obsession* explores questions of control and consent.

"I think what's interesting is that there is media that has tackled this idea, and hasn't really delved into the fact that love should be earned and what that actually means when you're wishing for someone else to love you without their consent," he explains.

For those interested in how the original ending would've looked, Barker says you just might get your wish.

"It would be cool to do a director's cut or whatever where we do the alternate ending," he muses. "And I can make it 20 minutes longer."
