Though they decided to keep it out of the public eye, this didn’t stop fans from obsessing over their relationship. After a breakup and surprise reconciliation-turned-whirlwind engagement two years later, Justin officially made Hailey his Mrs. during a September 2018 New York City courthouse ceremony. Justin and Hailey made an appearance together on May 18, attending game 7 of the Toronto Maple Leafs’ playoff series against the Florida Panthers. Sitting rinkside at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, the couple appeared in good spirits throughout the night. Hailey wore a blue Leafs jacket to support Justin’s longtime favorite team, while Justin shared multiple Instagram posts and Stories from the outing. They included backstage shots, rinkside selfies, and a series of PDA-filled photos.
“Made it into the building,” he captioned one post of Hailey walking ahead of him as they arrived.
In another, he expressed his optimism for the team despite their loss that evening. He wrote, “I don’t remember a time in my life when I haven’t been obsessed with the leafsssss. This year we made it farther than we have in so long and I’m happy about that. I can be patient ’cuz I know this is the team to do it.”

That same month, Hailey addressed how her marriage is perceived in a Vogue interview, saying, “I feel like I’ve fought so hard to try to get people to understand me, or know who I am, or see me for me. And people just don’t want to sometimes. And there’s nothing you can do about that. I’ve been in a position where I’ve tried to tell my side of a story or correct a narrative or tell the truth of a lie and then they go, Well, she’s lying. Imagine how trapping that feels.”

A source speaking to Entertainment Tonight explained the current state of the couple’s marriage: “Justin and Hailey have been struggling in their relationship,” the insider said. “They both want to salvage their marriage, but right now things are not good.” The source added that their friends believe they can work things out, too.
There are issues on both sides, the source detailed: “Justin has been getting irritated easily and feels like Hailey can be superficial about the way their relationship looks in the public eye, and Justin’s lack of motivation has been upsetting for her.”

On July 17, a source told Entertainment Tonightthat things have improved, but the couple never considered calling it quits, due to their deep love for each other and their son, nearly 1-year-old Jack.
