Morgan Newberry broke the C5 world record but had to settle for an overall silver
There was a silver double for England's sprint teams at the Commonwealth Games on the opening day of competition at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome.
Katy Marchant, Rhianna Parris-Smith and Sophie Capewell were edged out by Wales in the women's final, allowing an early advantage to slip as Wales roared back to win by 0.141 seconds in a new Games record of 46.760secs.
Hamish Turnbull, Harry Ledingham-Horn and Joe Truman also had to settle for silver after being beaten by Australia by 0.577secs across the three-lap race, the winners finishing in 42.455secs.

Morgan Newberry enjoyed mixed emotions in the C4/C5 4,000m individual pursuit.
Having set a new C5 world record in qualification for the final, the 27-year-old saw the mark broken by New Zealand's Nicole Murray in the bronze medal race.
Newberry then stormed to another new world record in the gold final, posting a time of five mins 5.764secs, only for her factored time to be beaten by Australian Tara Neyland who claimed gold, just outside her own C4 record.
Lizzi Jordan and pilot Sylvie Misztal secured bronze in the tandem B sprint, winning the first two races of a best-of-three series against team-mate Sophie Unwin and her pilot Anna Whitworth-Hay.
