Survival of the Thickestis closing out its last chapter with a host of new faces.
The Netflix comedy’s third and final season dropped on July 2, following Mavis (Michelle Buteau) as she continues to make a name for herself as a stylist while trying to start a family with her love interest, Luca (Marouane Zotti). In a March 2026 interview with PEOPLE, the Survival of the Thickest star and co-creator opened up about how fans will see her character “still taking chances in her career” as well as in her personal life.
“We see Mavis in places she never dreamed of going, and then places she has dreamed of going,” Buteau said.
Some of those places have her crossing paths with new characters played by Wanda Sykes and Ice-T, among others. Real-life fashion designers Charles Harbison, LaQuan Smith and Jenna Lyons, as well as model Ashley Graham, also appear in the comedy-drama as themselves.

Buteau told PEOPLE in June 2026 that it’s been her “dream” to work with the stand-up comedian and that Sykes had one wild question before she agreed to join the Survival of the Thickest cast.
“I was all in her business,” Buteau explained. “I texted Wanda and I was like, ‘Hey, there’s this role and nobody else could do this role but you.’ And I’m like, ‘Are you interested and available?’ And she’s like, ‘Yeah, I’m interested, but do I have to be naked?’ ”
Buteau said she assured the Emmy-winning actress that there would be “no sex.”

Ice-T as Charcoal Jackson

The long-running Law & Order: SVU star also joins the comedy as Charcoal Jackson. The actor described the character as an “eccentric” artist in a July 2026 Instagram post.
Buteau told PEOPLE in May 2026 that Ice-T was “so much funnier” than she thought he would be.

“Tone Bell and Ice-T are so hilarious,” the actress added. “Our script supervisor Erika Sanz couldn’t give them notes without cracking up.”

D.L. Hughley portrays Tariq in season 3 of Survival of the Thickest. The comedian and actor posted a clip from his cameo on Instagram in July 2026, teasing that his character appears to be Khalil’s incarcerated father.
He captioned the video simply, “#TeamDl.”
