LSU and Alabama, two of the most prestigious programs in college football, have played some all-time games in their history.

The rivalry game has been played 89 times, with the first matchup between the schools coming in 1895, 37 years before the programs were founding members of the SEC. The Tigers and Crimson Tide have faced every season since 1963.

REQUIRED READING: LSU interim coach pulling out all the stops vs. Alabama... including Pearl Harbor analogy

The two teams also share legendary coach Nick Saban, who won a national championship at both programs in his career.

The rivalry is set to end in the coming years, however, as the two teams aren't permanent opponents in the SEC's new 9-game conference schedule format.

Here's a look back at the top 10 all-time games between LSU and Alabama.

Top 10 LSU-Alabama games of all time1. 2019 (LSU 46, Alabama 41)

The 2019 matchup between LSU, which went undefeated and won the national championship, and Alabama was rich with NFL talent.

LSU, led by quarterback Joe Burrow and receivers Ja'Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson, put up 559 total yards and led 33-13 at halftime over Tua Tagovailoa and the Crimson Tide.

But Alabama didn't go away without a fight, outscoring the Tigers 28-13 in the second half. Ultimately it wasn't enough, though, despite Tagovailoa passing for 418 yards with four touchdowns, 218 yards and two touchdowns of which went to DeVonta Smith.

Burrow passed for 393 yards with three touchdowns in the win. Chase caught six passes for 140 yards and a score whereas Jefferson finished with 79 yards on seven receptions.

2. 2011 (LSU 9, Alabama 6 OT)

One of the most recent "Game of the Century" contests between No. 1 and No. 2, the No. 1 Tigers took down Alabama 9-6 in a game with no touchdowns.

The game was a preview of the national championship, a game that'll also find itself on this list. Spoiler alert: Alabama got its revenge the second time around with the stakes maxed out.

Justin Jefferson's older brother, Jordan Jefferson, was 6 of 10 passing for 67 yards in the game. LSU rushed for 148 yards and 41 carries as a team.

It was a rare loss for Alabama quarterback A.J. McCarron, one of the winningest quarterbacks in program history. Alabama kicker Cade Foster missed three field goals in the narrow loss.

3. 2014 (Alabama 20, LSU 13 OT)

Blake Sims didn't amount to anything in the NFL, but that doesn't stop him from being a beloved Alabama quarterback.

The best moment of his college career may have been his scoring drive against LSU in 2014.

Sims drove the Crimson Tide 55 yards in 50 seconds to set up a game-tying field goal to send the game to overtime. He then completed a 7-yard game-winning touchdown pass to DeAndrew White in overtime to seal the 20-13 win.

The game saved Alabama's season, as it went on to reach the College Football Playoff. The Crimson Tide fell to eventual national champions Ohio State in the semifinal, however.

4. 2007 (LSU, 41, Alabama 34)

LSU defeated Alabama 41-34 in 2007, which kept its national championship hopes alive as the Tigers already had one loss on the year. LSU, of course, went onto win the title.

It wasn't easy against the Crimson Tide, though, as LSU held a 17-3 lead before Alabama scored 24 unanswered to take a 10-point lead in the third quarter. The Tigers locked in late, though, scoring 24 points in the final 16 minutes of regulation to take the win.

Quarterback Matt Flynn passed for 353 yards with three touchdowns to three interceptions in what was once the highest-scoring game in series history.

5. 2012 (Alabama 21, LSU 0)

Alabama got its revenge in 2011, blanking LSU in a rematch for all the marbles.

The Crimson Tide beat the Tigers 21-0 in the 2012 national championship game, after falling to LSU 9-6 in overtime earlier in the season.

Alabama's defense had one of its best performances ever under Nick Saban, holding LSU to an abysmal 92 total yards of offense with two turnovers.

6. 2008 (Alabama 27, LSU 21 OT)

Nick Saban goes into Tiger Stadium for the first time since leaving LSU, wins in overtime, and goes onto win the national title.

Enough said.

7. 2005 (LSU 16, Alabama 13 OT)

JaMarcus Russell's game-winning touchdown pass to Dwayne Bowe kept LSU in the national championship hunt, although the Tigers narrowly missed out on a bid.

Alabama led 10-0 at halftime before the Tigers stormed back.

8. 2012 (Alabama 21, LSU 17)

AJ McCarron's swing pass to T.J. Yeldon in the final seconds of the game for a 28-yard touchdown sealed Alabama's win in this thriller.

Alabama went on to win 21-17, eventually reaching the national championship and dominating Notre Dame 42-14 for another title.

9. 1988 (LSU 19, Alabama 18)10. 1993 (LSU 17, Alabama 13)

Texas Tech will be the center of the college football world on Saturday, Nov. 8, when it hosts BYU with ESPN's "College GameDay" in town.

"GameDay" will be on site in Lubbock, Texas, for the No. 9 Red Raiders' (8-1, 6-0 Big 12) matchup with the No. 8 Cougars (8-0, 5-0 Big 12) in a battle between two College Football Playoff contenders.

REQUIRED READING: Inside BYU's staying power and drive to finish with a coach from Tonga and a QB named Bear

Texas Tech's campus isn't a familiar place for "College GameDay," only appearing as the site of the ESPN show once. In fact, that came in 2008, when the Red Raiders upset No. 1 Texas on a game-winning touchdown catch by Michael Crabtree, a two-time Biletnikoff Award winner.

While Texas Tech may not be a school that gets the national stage often, the program likely isn't going away anytime soon either, with its commitment to having a high budget and its potential to reach the CFP this season.

Here's what to know of some of Texas Tech's traditions, with unfamiliar fans likely tuned in for the Week 11 game.

What is a Red Raider?

Texas Tech has a unique nickname, one that doesn't have an obvious explanation.

The nickname came to be in 1936, after Lubbock Avalanche-Journal sportswriter Collier Paris coined the team as the Red Raiders given their black and red uniforms along with the tough schedule they faced. Prior to 1936, the team was called the Matadors, due to the school's Spanish-like architecture.

"The Red Raiders from Texas Tech, terror in the Southwest this year, swooped in the New Mexico University camp today," Paris wrote in 1932, per the school.

Who is Texas Tech's mascot?

Texas Tech's mascot is The Masked Rider, which started in 1936 as a dare.

The Masked Rider obviously wears a mask and also rides into games on a horse. The mascot was originally called the Ghost Rider, as the person's identity was unknown.

The Masked Rider became the school's official mascot in 1954, when legendary horseman Joe Kirk Fulton led the team onto the field at the Gator Bowl wearing Levi's, a mask and a red shirt, according to the school.

The Masked Rider today leads the team onto the field on a horse while signaling guns up, the program's hand greeting.

Texas Tech football field

Texas Tech plays at Jones AT&T Stadium, which underwent massive renovations prior to the 2025 season.

The $242 million project was completed in July and included an uplift of the south endzone. It also added new football facilities and a new visitor's locker room.

The stadium opened in 1947 with a capacity of 27,000, and is named after Texas Tech's third president, Clifford B. Jones. It has since expanded to just over 60,000 in capacity,

DETROIT (AP) — Artemi Panarin had a goal and two assists, and the New York Rangers beat the Detroit Red Wings 4-1 on Friday night.

Alexis Lafreniere had a goal and an assist to reach 200 career points, and Noah Laba and Will Cuylle also scored for New York, which has won seven straight against Detroit. Mika Zibanejad had two assists and Jonathan Quick stopped 31 shots to help the Rangers improve to 7-1-1 on the road.

Panarin has 17 goals and 27 assists in 26 career games against Detroit.

J.T. Compher scored for the Red Wings, who saw their five-game home winning streak snapped. Cam Talbot made 22 saves.

Red Wings forward Patrick Kane returned to action after a nine-game absence due to an upper body injury.

Laba scored during a scramble in front of the net at 4:52 of the second period to give the Rangers a 2-1 lead.

Panarin extended the lead at 7:29 of the third, beating Talbot on his glove side. Lafreniere got behind Detroit's defense and scored less than a minute later to give the Rangers a three-goal lead.

WILD 5, ISLANDERS 2

NEW YORK (AP) — Kirill Kaprizov had a goal and an assist, and Minnesota beat the New York Islanders.

Vinnie Hinostraza, Danila Yurov, Brock Faber and Marco Rossi also scored for Minnesota in its third win in four games. Jesper Wallstedt finished with 25 saves.

Emil Heineman and Jean-Gabriel Pageau scored for the Islanders and David Rittich had 21 saves as New York lost its second straight and snapped a three-game point streak (2-0-1).

Kaprizov scored on a give-and-go with Mats Zuccarello to push the Wild's lead to 5-2 at 8:33 of the third period. It was Kaprizov's ninth goal of the season.

Trailing 2-0 after 20 minutes, the Islanders got on the board at 4:38 of the second as Heineman got a pass from Bo Horvat in the right circle and beat Wallstedt for his sixth.

Faber restored the Wild's two-goal lead 1:18 later as he got the puck in the high slot after Matt Boldy's wraparound try and put it past Rittich.

Rossi pushed the lead to 4-1 as he skated in on Rittich and beat him into the top right corner at 9:05.

BLACKHAWKS 4, FLAMES 0

CALGARY, Alberta (AP) — Connor Bedard had a goal and three assists, Spencer Knight stopped 33 shots for his first shutout of the season, and Chicago beat Calgary.

Tyler Bertuzzi scored twice and Andre Burakovsky also had a goal for Chicago, which won its second straight after losing three in a row. Knight had his sixth career shutout.

Dustin Wolf had 23 saves for Calgary, which was coming off a season-high five-goal outburst in a win over Columbus on Wednesday.

The Flames, held to fewer than two goals goals for the sixth time, are the league's lowest-scoring team at 2.19 goals per game. They also sit last in the NHL's overall standings.

On the heels of his third-period hat-trick on Wednesday in Vancouver, Bertuzzi's opening goal with 7:28 remaining in the first gave him four goals in two periods.

The score remained 1-0 until Chicago put the game away with a three-goal third.

SHARKS 2, JETS 1

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — Will Smith scored the tiebreaking goal late in the third period, and San Jose beat Winnipeg.

Macklin Celebrini had a goal and an assist to move into the NHL scoring lead, and Alex Nedeljkovic finished with 32 saves for his third win in four starts. The Sharks extended their point streak to five games (4-0-1).

Josh Morrissey scored for Winnipeg, and Connor Hellebuyck stopped 25 shots. The Jets have lost two straight.

On a scramble in front of the net, Hellebuyck stopped Celebrini's attempt from the left side of the net. However, the puck sat in front of the line behind him, and Smith tapped it in from the right side with 4:21 remaining.

Celebrini's assist was his league-high 23rd point (nine goals, 14 assists) of the season.

The Sharks outshot the Jets 11-9 in a scoreless second period with no penalties.

Preseason Big 12 Player of the Year JT Toppin led No. 10 Texas Tech with 31 points and 14 rebounds on Friday as the Red Raiders pulled away for a 98-77 victory over Sam Houston in Lubbock, Texas.

Toppin, who missed the season-opening win over Lindenwood with a lower-body injury, added four assists and three steals. Donovan Atwell contributed 19 points and Christian Anderson chipped in 18 points and seven assists for the Red Raiders (2-0).

Tyeree Bryan scored 12 points and reserve LeJuan Watts had 11 in the win.

Justin Begg led Sam Houston (1-1) with 17 points, while Kashie Natt totaled 16 points and 11 rebounds. Veljko Ilic scored 13 for the Bearkats, who led by four with less than seven minutes left in the first half.

Trailing by 10 at halftime, the Bearkats cut their deficit to six on Ilic and Jacob Walker baskets less than two minutes into the second half.

Atwell's third 3-pointer pushed Texas Tech's advantage to 62-49 with 14 minutes left.

Toppin's layup and subsequent free throws with 7:52 remaining gave the Red Raiders their largest lead to that point at 77-60.

After Isaiah Manning broke up the run with a free throw, Texas Tech extended its edge to 22 on Toppin's reverse layup at the 5:55 mark.

Ilic's jumper gave the Bearkats a 26-22 lead with 7:48 remaining in the first half -- stamping a 7-0 Sam Houston run.

Toppin then scored four straight points to begin a 12-3 Texas Tech run, as the Red Raiders grabbed a 34-29 edge with just over three minutes left in the opening half.

Atwell knocked down consecutive 3-pointers to push the lead to 11.

Texas Tech led 47-37 at halftime, paced by Toppin's 14 points and Anderson's 13.

SEATTLE (AP) — Mia Hamant, a goalkeeper for Washington's women's soccer team who helped the Huskies reach the semifinals of the Big Ten tournament as a junior, has died. She was 21.

Hamant died Thursday following a bout with kidney cancer, the university said.

Hamant was one of the Big Ten's best goalkeepers in 2024. She posted the third-lowest single-season goals against average in program-history at 0.66. Hamant sat out her senior season due to her cancer diagnosis.

"Mia was the heart of our program — someone who lifted up everyone around her with her joy, courage, and kindness," women's soccer coach Nicole Van Dyke said in a statement. "Even in the most difficult moments, she showed an unshakable spirit that inspired her teammates and coaches every single day. Mia made us all better people, and her impact will be felt in this program and in all of our lives forever."

In April, Hamant was diagnosed with Stage 4 kidney cancer, and stepped away from the team to begin chemotherapy treatment. She received support across the Washington athletic department, including from Huskies wide receiver Denzel Boston after their 42-25 victory over No. 23 Illinois on Oct. 25.

Hamant attended the game, and sounded the siren at Husky Stadium two weeks before her death.

"Mia Hamant on our soccer team is going through tough, tough struggles with cancer" Boston said after the game. "We're just trying to be there to support her."

The Big Ten honored the Corte Madera, California, native, with the 2025 Sportsmanship Award earlier this week.

"The University of Washington grieves the heartbreaking loss of Mia Hamant, whose strength, kindness, and spirit touched everyone around her," athletic director Pat Chun said in a statement. "Mia embodied everything we hope for in a Husky student-athlete — perseverance, grace, and an unwavering commitment to her teammates and community. Her remarkable courage through adversity and the legacy she leaves behind will forever inspire the UW family."

Hamant is survived by her parents.
