Fake dating is *so *back, with a scientific twist.

The first trailer for Prime Video’s *The Love Hypothesis, *which debuted on Wednesday,* *brings author Ali Hazelwood’s book of the same name to life. From the look of it, the film will not skip out on any of *those *steamy moments from the novel.

“Science tells us that molecules will stay in motion until they find a match,” Lili Reinhart opens the trailer as Olive Smith, a Stanford University PhD student. Things escalate pretty quickly when Reinhart’s Olive kisses a random man at a water fountain — in a perfect recreation of *The Love Hypothesis* book cover — to convince her best friend Ahn (Rachel Marsh) that she can, in fact, have a long-term relationship.

The random man, it turns out, isn’t so random. Olive actually kisses professor Adam Carlsen (Tom Bateman) — who accepts her proposal to fake date. However, he wants something in return. The faux relationship with Olive makes him look like less of a “flight risk” to Stanford, which is threatening to pull funding from this grant.

When it came to bringing this fan-favorite book to life, readers were adamant about wanting to see certain scenes onscreen. One, of course, being the famous sunscreen moment between Olive and Adam — and Wednesday’s trailer does not disappoint.

As Reinhart’s Olive puts sunscreen on a shirtless Bateman’s back, she asks him to “smile, please,” while offering him a masterclass in “flirting.” Albeit, pretty badly. The lines between Olive and Adam start to blur as the trailer continues, hinting that these two might not be fake dating anymore.

Hazelwood published the book in 2021, years after originally writing the story in 2018 as *Head Over Feet, *a *Star Wars** *fan fiction about characters Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver). The kicker? Ridley’s married to Bateman in real life. So, *The Love Hypothesis *movie really is a full circle moment for all parties involved.

When news broke last year that *The Love Hypothesis *was getting a movie adaptation, Hazelwood expressed her disbelief in a statement.

“Honestly, I still can’t believe this is happening? [Producer] Elizabeth Cantillon, [director] Claire Scanlon, and Lili Reinhart have all created, produced, or starred in works that I’m absolutely feral about, and I am beyond honored that they’re choosing to bring their talent to this project,” the author shared. “Books and films are very different media, and I have complete trust in this brilliant team. I cannot wait to see the final product they’ll come up with. I hope they have as much fun filming as I had while writing the book.”
