Shawn Johnson is sparking debate online after sharing a video of her kissing her toddler.

On Saturday, July 4, the Olympic gymnast, 34, posted a clip on her social media pages of her giving her son Barrett “Bear,” 2, a kiss on the lips, igniting a major debate in her comment section about the mother-son moment. In the video, Johnson’s son can be seen grabbing her face and giving her several kisses on the lips while the pair cruised around on a boat.

“What a smooch!! Hahahaha this guy came outta nowhere!!” she captioned the video.

In the comment section, some users raised concerns about whether the kissing was appropriate. A rep for Johnson did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

“My husband and I have never kissed our daughter on the lips, we’ll kiss her cheeks, forehead, nose, chin, whatever we will not kiss her lips,” one user wrote. “Teaching boundaries early is very important.”

Echoing the user’s sentiment, another person added, “Children should not be kissing their parents on the lips, or vice versa. Cheek is appropriate.”

A third user wrote that they found the long kisses “weird,” adding that the action “shouldn’t be encouraged” and the video “needs to be taken down.”

Conversely, several users shut down the negative commenters and said that this display of love between mom and son is absolutely normal.

“Love the intense love for his momma! My youngest was like this, so deeply loving to me! He is still a big momma lover at now 7 years old, he will give me kisses everyday, and really pause in the love of it,” one user shared. “Not as many lip kisses now that he’s older but he will give me cheek kisses in his appreciation of things I’ve done for him or just to say I love you mom!”

“The internet needs to get out of here with the ‘he needs to be taught boundaries,’ ” they continued.

Married at First Sight alum Jamie Otis added, “The way a boy loves his mama 🥰🥰🥰,” to which Johnson replied, “the sweetest.”

“I’m praying in advance for those high school girls hearts 😭😭😭,” another user shared, to which Johnson agreed, “for real! 😭.”

Another user supported Johnson’s video, sharing that their son “never misses an opportunity” to give her a kiss.

“Only boy moms will understand how precious those kisses are!!! My second born never misses an opportunity!! ❤️” they wrote.

In addition to her son, Johnson shares daughter Drew Hazel, 6, and son Jett James, 4, with husband Andrew East, 34. The couple, who have been married since 2016, recently shared with PEOPLE that they don’t plan on having more kids.

“Our family, I think, feels very complete,” Johnson said, and her husband agreed.

“I love it so much,” the former NFL player said of being a dad. “Having little kids is so fun, but I think we’re done.”
