Over the course of its eight seasons, *The Vampire Diaries*' mythology changed every now and then to fit a certain story. But in its seventh season, the show delivered its biggest change from its established mythology when, suddenly, Caroline (Candice King) became pregnant via a magical transfer. Even though she was a vampire, she was somehow carrying Alaric (Matthew Davis) and Jo's (Jodi Lyn O'Keefe) twins.

The twist was something the writers thought up as a way to soften the tragedy at the end of season 6 when Kai (Chris Wood) killed Jo and her unborn children—on her wedding day, no less. "We had always left that [story thread] hanging on instinct," writer Neil Reynolds says during episode 7 of *EW's Binge: The Vampire Diaries*.

Executive producer Julie Plec adds, "Because of the tragedy of the twins and Jo dying and looking for story for Alaric for the season, we had separately come up with the story of the woman who knocks on his door and is like, 'I think I'm pregnant with your babies.'" But the writers weren't sure if that twist was *too* crazy, so they didn't originally plan to go there. Until star Candice King called to let them know she was pregnant. "I was very nervous to make that call," King says on the podcast.

Ultimately, the writers decided to work in King's pregnancy and use the aforementioned story, only instead of a random woman showing up pregnant, Caroline would carry Ric's kids. Plec remembers warning CW president Mark Pedowitz about "the most bananas thing" she was ever going to pitch him at the time, but surprisingly, he wasn't fazed. And thus Caroline's pregnancy became part of the series and will always go down as one of the show's most unexpected turns.

- Whoopi Goldberg criticized her *Ghost* costar Demi Moore's recent remarks about AI.

- *The View* played a clip that highlighted Moore's divisive comments about AI at Cannes, alongside other footage of Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston.

- "I don't like being pushed," Goldberg said at the Hot Topics table.

Artificial intelligence? You're in danger, girl.

From her post at the head of *The View*'s Hot Topics table, Whoopi Goldberg has criticized a recent wave of celebrities who've urged others to embrace the rise of AI — including her *Ghost* costar Demi Moore.

After the daytime talk show played Thursday morning a clip of several stars urging others to embrace understanding AI — including Moore, Reese Witherspoon, and Jennifer Aniston — Goldberg staunchly stood against anyone pushing others to endorse AI if they're not ready to.

Goldberg summarized the topic with help from a new article in *The Cut*, which she said included a "warning against the way prominent female entrepreneurs and entertainers are urging women to embrace the new technology," before playing a clip of Moore saying at Cannes in May that "to fight [AI] is, in a sense, to fight something that is a battle that we will lose" in Hollywood.**

The EGOT winner — who scored her Oscar for her role opposite Moore in the 1990 hit *Ghost* — confirmed that she doesn't use AI at all.

"I go out and I talk to people, and I do stuff that I understand. I understand when something comes in like a car and a horseless carriage. It's great and it isn't great," the 70-year-old said. "I don't want anybody telling me that I have to lean in to keep up with her. I need what I need, and I'm going to find the way that I need to get in there. This rush to push? I don't like being pushed the way I feel like I'm being pushed, because people want us to get on top of it."

Goldberg maintained that, "You should've pushed me two years ago when you first started really looking at it and realizing this was something I needed to do. So, in my own time, I will get to it. It's great for us, and it's not great for us. It's like the internet."

Goldberg's criticism came over a year after the *Ghost* stars reunited at the 2025 Oscars, where Moore was lauded with her first Best Actress nomination for her critically celebrated turn in the body-horror hit *The Substance*.

Earlier in *The View* discussion, cohost and legal expert Sunny Hostin said she's a hardcore AI user, and joked that she has her "Ph. D in ChatGPT" and that her "therapist" and "marital counselor" is ChatGPT.**** "I think AI is a learning technology, and it is as stupid as it will ever be right now, so now is the time to get on board and learn how to use it," Hostin, 57, said, though 63-year-old guest cohost and tech journalist Kara Swisher pushed back, telling her that "men are making all the rules about it" and to be cautious as a result.

Goldberg has long warned *The View* audience about AI, including when she warned viewers about the Amazon Alexa device during a 2023 live show.

"You know she is listening. I don't want her in the house," Goldberg said at the time. "I don't want anything that is smart enough to lock me out of my house, I don't want anything that won't let me drive my car. When you watch science fiction, it's right there. They tell you: this is the future."

Other stars have also weighed in on the rise of AI, including Sandra Bullock, who recently said that Hollywood will eventually “have to lean into” AI in a series of comments that drew criticism from many, with singer Dionne Warwick eventually mocking Bullock's words in a social media post.

Some sects of the entertainment industry have tackled AI head-on, including the aforementioned Aniston's *Friends* costar Lisa Kudrow, whose third and final season of the HBO comedy *The Comeback* entirely revolved around a story about the dangers of AI writing an entire sitcom.

The Person Who Believed in Me

- Sharon Stone has revealed a horrifying physical attack left her severely injured 10 years later.

- The actress said she's not "at liberty" to reveal who she thinks attacked her, though she said she's "quite certain" who did.

- "I did not want that to be my legacy," she said of not taking the incident to court.

Oscar-nominated actress Sharon Stone has opened up about a horrifying physical attack that she said left her internal organs "fractured and scarred" 10 years after the alleged incident occurred.

The 68-year-old *Basic Instinct* icon and recent *Euphoria* season 3 star revealed details of the alleged attack for the first time on a recent episode of David Begnaud's *The Person Who Believed in Me* podcast (below), during which she recounted the incident.

"I don't know how much I can tell about this. I was hit from behind," Stone said on the episode. "I didn't really know until 10 years later what had happened to me, because I woke up. I was unconscious on the floor. The two couches were sideways, the coffee table was all over the place, it was sort of upside-down, everything that had been on the coffee table was all over the floor, and I didn't know how I got there."

Stone said that she sought treatment for neck and shoulder issues a decade later, and, at a clinic in Marina Del Rey, Calif., she was given propofol while the medical team did X-rays on her upper body.

"The doctor came in and he was like, 'We're not going to be able to do this surgery,'" remembered Stone. "He was like, 'Your thoracic ribcage is all fractured and scarred back together. It's clear that you were attacked, and that what happened to you was a felony and we have to report it to the police and to everyone.'"

Stone said that the doctor urged her to report it as well, because "there's a protocol" to follow, and that she had a panic attack in the hospital after the doctor finished speaking.

"He got on his knees, and I think he thought I thought he was threatening. He was like, 'I'm small,' and he got down on his knees [and said] 'No one will hurt you,'" Stone recalled. "Because I was on propofol, they were able to take me back through the incident and help me understand what had happened to me."

When pressed on who attacked her, Stone replied, "I'm not going to say publicly, but I am going to say that we did report and we did do everything," and added that she "had the opportunity to press charges. Because it had been a decade and because I'm a public figure, I decided not to."

She maintained that she's "quite certain who did it" to her, but added that she "would've had a hard time in court a decade later" attempting to litigate the incident.

"I'm quite sure that I had enough circumstantial evidence to make sort of a case, but I did not want that to be my legacy," Stone admitted. When Begnaud asked Stone if the incident was "domestic violence," she replied, "I'm not at liberty to say."

Stone said in the episode that she was married at the time of the incident and that her husband was involved in other medical treatment at the time. Though she didn't name him outright in this portion of the podcast, she noted that her spouse at the time was a powerful figure in journalism. Stone was married to investigative reporter Phil Bronstein from 1998 to 2004.****** has reached out to Stone for comment. EW has additionally attempted to contact Bronstein for comment.

Stone also opened up on the podcast about her decision to have a mastectomy amid her diagnosis with a massive tumor.

"One of them was bigger than the size of my entire left breast," Stone said on the show. "And the doctor had come out to my house and said, 'Look, we think you should have a bilateral mastectomy. This is really bad. And we usually, when they're all the way up into here, we know before we go in that they're cancer.'"

Stone said that, in her estimation, "that was the end of the marriage." "That was it. He was done with me then. It was over," she added.

The *Casino* actress maintained that "it was just over in the room. You could just tell. It was over. It was just over. He thought I was ridiculous. He thought it was foolish. He thought I was making too many decisions myself."

We're shifting gears in our look back at the New Orleans Saints' all-time rivals to focus on the defense, and it shouldn't surprise anyone that the list of interceptions leaders includes multiple members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Saints quarterbacks have had to look out for dangerous defensive backs like Deion Sanders and Rod Woodson over the years, but who's on top of the leaderboard? Let's go through the top 10 (which, honestly, is more like top 20).

It's a group of 11 players tied for the last spot here. Allen leads the group in interception return touchdowns (3 of them), while Hicks has the most interception return yards (116). Here's the full count:

Let's get this out of the way: United States history with "the beautiful game" was pretty ugly until American soccer's surge in the 1990s.

The U.S. Men's National Team has never won an Olympic medal in soccer, and you have to look all the way back to the first World Cup – in 1930 – for the men's best finish of third.

Fast forward 61 years, to when women's soccer finally got its international stage with the first Women's World Cup. A U.S. victory behind Michelle Akers' 10 goals was the first of four Women's World Cup victories for America.

The U.S. women would have to wait five more years for their Olympic moment, but they again made good with a gold-medal finish in 1996. It was the first of five gold medals for the U.S. women, who have medaled in seven of eight Olympic tournaments.

With that context, you'll notice a recency bias in our list of the top soccer players in U.S. history. From recent Olympians and MLS pioneers, to the trailblazing women who have defined excellence in American soccer, you'll probably recognize a lot of these names.

JERUSALEM, June 4 (Reuters) - Israel will continue its operations on the ground in ‌southern Lebanon for the time being and ‌Lebanese residents forced from their homes by Israel would not be able to return, Defence Minister Israel Katz said on Thursday.

His comments came a day after Lebanon and Israel said they had ‌agreed to implement a ceasefire during talks in Washington. The deal is contingent on a cessation of fire from militant group Hezbollah.

In a statement, Katz said troops would remain in its so-called security zone in southern Lebanon, including ‌in the area of Beaufort Castle, a 900-year-old fortress captured by Israel on Saturday.

He said Israel would continue to "dismantle terrorist infrastructure in the area" while Israel had "freedom of action, backed ‌by the United States, to strike in Beirut in response to attacks on Israeli communities and territory."

Lebanon ‌and Israel agreed on Wednesday to a new U.S.-backed ceasefire in Lebanon. They had previously agreed to a cessation of hostilities in April ‌that was then extended in May, but violence has continued.
