On Feb. 26, 2026, David Chase took part in a panel discussion at the Museum of the Moving Image in New York City

Steven Van Zandt and Ariel Kiley were also in attendance as the museum honored the acclaimed HBO series, The Sopranos

During the conversation, Chase revealed that when pitching the show, he had to prepare alternate, less-violent versions of the script to present to different networks

David Chase, the creator and showrunner of The Sopranos, reflected on the long road to bringing his groundbreaking drama to television during a recent appearance at the Museum of the Moving Image in New York City.

The museum honored the landmark series with a special exhibition and three screenings celebrating its legacy. Speaking candidly during a panel discussion, Chase revisited the early struggles he faced trying to get the project made.

Before the show became a cultural force, he said, it was repeatedly rejected by networks that were wary of its tone and subject matter. "Everybody turned it down. But I did a rewrite. See, the first draft that I did, which was for Fox…nobody got killed because it was a network show," Chase explained. "I thought, 'I can't have a murder. I can't have somebody…have Tony [Soprano] kill somebody.' And then they didn't do it."

The panel, which also featured Steven Van Zandt and Ariel Kiley, gave Chase the chance to explain how he ultimately reshaped the script. Determined to make the story feel authentic, he restored the violence and moral consequences that he believed were essential to portraying organized crime.

When he pitched the revised version to HBO, he no longer held back. "I rewrote it and I put in a murder, that Chris kills this Czechoslovakian guy, and that then sold," Chase, 80, recalled.

Looking back, Chase remains deeply proud of the series and thankful for HBO granting him total creative freedom. In a 2024 interview with PEOPLE tied to the show's 25th anniversary, he called it "the best thing I probably will ever do."

Reflecting on its enduring popularity, Chase said, "I still feel this tremendous sense of gratitude that it's still going on." With nearly two decades since the show's conclusion in 2007, he added that he "can't remember this happening with any other television show ever."

During its six-season run from 1999 to 2007, The Sopranos earned 21 Emmy Awards, five Golden Globes and two Peabody Awards.

Its success was driven in large part by James Gandolfini's powerful portrayal of Tony Soprano, a mob boss who was both menacing and darkly humorous, helping redefine what television drama could achieve.

"One Battle After Another" remains undefeated.

Paul Thomas Anderson's ragtag revolutionary drama took top honors Saturday night at the 37th annual Producers Guild Awards, setting it on course to triumph in two weeks at the Academy Awards.

In winning the guild's Daryl F. Zanuck award for best feature film, "One Battle After Another" is poised to sweep the major prizes of awards season. It's won at the Directors Guild, the Golden Globes and the BAFTAs. The Screen Actors Guild is to present its awards on Sunday night.

The PGA Awards and the Academy Awards have a long history of correlating. Since 2009, both groups have used a preferential ballot to pick a winner from 10 nominees. For five years running, the PGA winner has matched the best picture winner at the Oscars. In the last 10 years, they've diverged only twice.

Accepting the award, Anderson alluded to the recent sale of Warner Bros. Discovery to Paramount Skydance while thanking Warner Bros. film chiefs Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy.

"Long may you wave, whatever the future holds," said Anderson. "It is one battle after another."

The PGA Awards were held at the Ray Dolby Ballroom in Hollywood. The group also named "KPop Demon Hunters" best animated film, "My Mom Jayne: A Film by Mariska Hargitay" best documentary, "The Pitt" best drama series and "The Studio" best comedy series.

Taking on Ghostface is one thing, but with "Scream 7," Isabel May was confronted by an even greater fear.

May, the 25-year-old "1883" breakout who plays the daughter of Neve Campbell's Sidney Prescott in the slasher franchise's latest outing (now in theaters), tells USA TODAY she was "barely getting by" after coming down with a "horrible stomach flu and a sinus infection" during the shoot. She "panicked" over the notion that she might disrupt filming by being unable to work.

"The most horrifying thing to me is the prospect of slowing down a production in any capacity," she says.

One morning, it got so bad that she "literally couldn't get out of bed," she recalls. "I called our second [assistant director] and I told her, and I was kind of devastated." Her onscreen mother, though, stepped in to save the day. Campbell, who is also a producer on "Scream 7," immediately called May and told her, "Don't worry about it. I've got you." The schedule was quickly rearranged so Campbell would shoot some of her own coverage that day, and May wouldn't be needed.

"I always want to be an absolute professional and make sure everyone's happy with the work that I'm contributing," May says. "It's my greatest fear to be a problem. That she made me not feel like I was, and recognized that I was a human — it was very much a maternal act from Neve."

Isabel May stars as Tatum Evans, the 17-year-old daughter of Neve Campbell's Sidney Prescott, in the slasher sequel "Scream 7."

"Scream 7" is filled with such acts, as the meta horror franchise turns focus to the strained relationship between legendary "final girl" Sidney Prescott and her 17-year-old daughter, Tatum (May). After Sidney went into hiding and started a quiet life with her husband Mark (Joel McHale) and kids, her peace is disrupted when yet another killer donning the Ghostface mask arrives.

May, who was born four years after the first "Scream" came out, had never seen any of the films when director Kevin Williamson reached out to set up a Zoom meeting. Quickly, she "panicked" and binged the entire franchise. "I thought I'd be quizzed or something by him," she says.

She later did get a quiz in a sense: After May read a "Scream 7" script where the end was redacted, Williamson asked her to guess Ghostface's identity. "I guessed accurately," she notes.

Who is Isabel May? Meet the '1883' breakout going toe to toe with Ghostface

May traces her acting journey back to age 4, when she told adults that she wanted "to make movies" when she grew up. But her passion for storytelling initially manifested itself as a love for reading.

"It was my way of getting out of conversation because I didn't really like conversing with people too much," she says. When a teacher advised her parents to get her involved in something more social, it led her to acting.

1 / 0See Courteney Cox, Neve Campbell, David Arquette at 'Scream 7' premiere

The "Scream 7" cast showed out for the global premiere at Paramount Pictures Studios on Feb. 25, 2026, in Los Angeles. See the stars on the black carpet, beginning here, from left, with Joel McHale, Skeet Ulrich, Celeste O'Connor, Ethan Embry, Jimmy Tatro, Mckenna Grace, Scott Foley, Anna Camp, Matthew Lillard, Sam Rechner, Timothy Simons, Courteney Cox, David Arquette, Isabel May, Victor Turpin, Neve Campbell, Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding.

After three years of auditions, at age 15, May told her parents she wanted to "commit to this thing that I love to do permanently," and they allowed her to leave school and transition to an online education. What followed was a "nerve-racking six months of complete and utter isolation," during which May had "no friends" and was singularly focused on getting her first job.

"My mother had all the faith in the world," May remembers. "My father was nervous for me, but didn't want to be. And I think I straddled between both of those feelings."

But May "just kept working and had faith in myself," and it paid off when she booked that first gig: a starring role on the Netflix sitcom "Alexa & Katie," which ran from 2018 to 2020. Later, her performance as Elsa Dutton on the "Yellowstone" prequel "1883" put her on the map. But May says coming off the show, she went through a period where she "very much doubted" herself.

"After ['1883'], I thought the world was my oyster, and it wasn't. I didn't know how to navigate at all," she says, noting she got caught up in letting "other people tell me what was the right thing to do, rather than trust my intuition." Now, though, "All the decisions I'm making are very much my own."

Isabel May reveals best advice she got from Neve Campbell

It was "1883" that landed May on "Scream" creator Williamson's radar and made him think of her for Sidney's daughter. Before filming, May met Campbell for dinner, and as someone who knows well what May was about to go through, the "Party of Five" star had some helpful advice. First, she urged May to appreciate that horror fans are a uniquely devoted group.

"It wasn't a warning so much as just, 'Be prepared for that. It's a huge privilege,'" May says.

Isabel May's Tatum struggles to connect with her mother, Sidney Prescott, in "Scream 7."

What was even more helpful, though, was Campbell's insight into why fans love horror so much.

Neve Campbell reflects on 'Scream' pay dispute, 'Scream 7' return

"A lot of folks that are in communities where they feel like they're disenfranchised or separate from society and are not embraced by the rest of the world, they found comfort in these films," May says.

"That's why Kevin Williamson wrote this as a young queer man. He wrote Sidney as a reflection of how he felt, being chased by something and trying to escape it. That's such a beautiful concept and idea, and I suddenly had a totally different approach to why I was doing it and who I was connecting with."

Isabel May's Tatum Evans walks with her friends, Mckenna Grace's Hannah, left, and Celeste O'Connor's Chloe, center, in "Scream 7."

But the "Scream 7" shoot was no walk in the park. A creepy scene where Tatum hides from Ghostface in a cramped space behind a wall required May to get over some deep-seated claustrophobia. "I got stuck in an elevator one time. I've never been the same since," she says. May also still wound up working while ill; a chase sequence where Ghostface comes after Tatum was shot while May was feeling unwell, but she could at least manage to stand up.

"This is my positive spin: It helped me get into character," she says, laughing. "I felt terrible. I needed to feel terrible. It was great! It was very useful."

Next up from May are a series of movies featuring stars including Cynthia Erivo, David Corenswet and Jennifer Lopez. After that, coming off a slate of roles in genres from Westerns to horror, May is "itching" to star in a good old-fashioned drama.

"Anything I haven't done, I want to do," she says. "Anything I haven't done in a while, I want to revisit, and just continue to seek out things that I'm definitely not the prototype for."

The Actor Awards—formerly known as the SAG Awards—is coming up on Sunday, Mar. 1. But you may be wondering, why did the awards show change their name?

In November 2025, SAG-AFTRA announced that, starting in 2026, the Screen Actors Guild Awards will now be known as "The Actor Awards presented by SAG-AFTRA."

According to the organization, the change was made to align the name of the awards show with the name of the statue that's handed out—like the Oscars, Emmys, Grammys and Golden Globes. The trophy given out at the SAG Awards has been known as the "Actor" since the inaugural ceremony in 1995.

"Since the beginning, our statue has been called 'The Actor' and we're a show that's entirely about actors, so this new name is a perfect next step in the show's evolution," said Jon Brockett, executive producer of the awards show, according to Deadline. "'The Actor Awards presented by SAG-AFTRA' gives viewers in 190-plus countries an immediate understanding of who we are and what we're about."

RELATED: The 2026 SAG Awards Are Now 'The Actor Awards': Inside the Shocking Name Change, Nominations and More

According to an FAQ published by SAG-AFTRA, the name change had been in the works for a long time prior to the announcement. The idea gained traction after the live broadcast of the ceremony moved to Netflix in 2023, given that international audiences may not be familiar with what "SAG" means.

"We wanted to provide clearer recognition in terms of what the show is about for our domestic and global audiences – we honor actors in film and television," SAG-AFTRA said. "Laser-focusing the name on those two things became the clearest and most straightforward path for this new chapter of the show… and, as the show's global audience expanded through Netflix, the timing felt right to make the alignment official and step confidently into the show's next era."

However, despite the name change, the organization clarified they're okay with past award winners referring to their recognition as a "SAG Award."

"We understand there will be a period of transition where people—past winners and audiences included—will still refer to their award and the show as the SAG Awards, and that's OK," they said in the FAQ. "We know it'll take time to adjust to the change."

The 2026 Actor Awards will be held on Sunday, Mar. 1 and will stream live on Netflix.

**This article contains spoilers from *Scream 7*.**

To quote Jasmin Savoy Brown's Mindy Meeks-Martin in *Scream 7*, "This time it's all about nostalgia."

Nostalgia for the franchise's early era is not only baked into the meta slasher-whodunnit, but it's also the chief weapon of the new Ghostface killers. There are three of these masked murderers this time around to torment Neve Campbell's Sidney Evans (formerly Prescott).

The ultimate Scream Queen has been attempting to live a quiet life in the new suburban setting of Pine Grove, Ind., with her husband, local police chief Mark (Joel McHale), and three daughters, of whom Tatum (Isabel May) is the eldest. There are so many nods to the first Sidney-centric movies in the story and its self-aware dialogue, including the prominent plot point that Tatum, named after Rose McGowan's *Scream* character Tatum Riley, is now the same age Sidney was during the Woodsboro Massacre.

Continuing with the meta commentary, the killers themselves are the embodiment of that nostalgia play that's so prominent in Hollywood these days.

Who are the Scream 7 killers?

Neve Campbell

Jessica Miglio/Paramount Pictures

In an ensemble scene where Mindy explains it all, the character posits that whoever the killer is, they are obsessed with the Sidney from 30 years ago. (This year of 2026 does indeed mark the 30th anniversary of the OG *Scream*.) That someone is Jessica (Anna Camp), mother of Tatum's classmate Lucas (Asa Germann) and the seemingly warm next-door neighbor of the Evans family.

Jess likes to think *she's* the true mastermind of this latest Ghostface killing spree, but it's supposedly up to whichever rambling psychopath you listen to. She was previously in an abusive marriage when she went insane and used Sidney's survivor story as inspiration to kill her husband. Jess read all about Sidney's story in *Out of Darkness*, the memoir published in the fourth movie.

After getting away with her husband's death, Jess became consumed with the image of *the* Sidney Prescott, but she "couldn't f---ing handle it" when Sid disappeared from the public limelight.

Anna Camp stars in Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Media Group's "Scream 7."

Anna Camp as Jessica in 'Scream 7'.

The obvious parallel is that Campbell herself did not appear in *Scream VI* (2023) over a pay dispute with production company Spyglass and studio Paramount. "When I made that decision, I just didn't think I could live with myself walking on set," the actress commented on the matter in a recent *CBS Mornings* interview. "It just didn't feel right. I just knew that my value to this franchise was bigger than what had been offered."

After the massive creative overhaul with *Scream 7*, the powers that be brought in Kevin Williamson, the original screenwriter on the early movies, to write and direct the sequel. He reoriented the story around Sidney and included Campbell, an executive producer, in the creative process.

Ghostface

Jess can be seen as a fictionalized representation of all those *Scream* fans who were upset when Sidney did not return for that sixth movie. "A Ghostface attack doesn't count if you're not there," she shouts at Sid during her ending monologue.

The meta commentary continues when the character shares that she tracked Sidney down to Pine Grove to be close to her, but was heartbroken upon realizing she didn't live up to the warrior image she'd had in her head all these years. Jess went even more haywire and booked a stay at the Fallbrook psych hospital nearby, where she synced up with Marco (Ethan Embry), a supervisor at the facility and the second chief Ghostface of *Scream 7*.

Ethan Embry stars in Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Media Group's "Scream 7."

Ethan Embry in 'Scream 7'.

Jessica Miglio/Paramount Pictures

Embry could also arguably be seen as a living, nostalgic Easter egg. The actor once auditioned for a role in the original *Scream*, either for Jamie Kennedy's Randy Meeks or Matthew Lillard's Stu Macher. "I remember not getting good feedback from Mr. Craven," Embry recalled to horror site Bloody Disgusting of the late filmmaker Wes Craven.

Marco and Jess wrangled the third Ghostface, another patient at Fallbrook, and a triple murderer named Karl Alan Gibbs (Kraig Drake). Karl was the first to die when he got run over by Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) in her car. His room at the hospital featured a framed photo of Tori Spelling, who, in the world of *Scream,* plays a fictionalized version of herself as the actress portraying Sidney Prescott in the *Stab* movies, which are based on the Woodsboro Massacre.

The main killers crafted a scheme that Jess hoped would turn Tatum into "Sidney Prescott 2.0" by killing her mother in front of her, thereby recreating the trauma that once turned Sidney into the ultimate Final Girl of Jess' dreams.

Nostalgic Easter eggs

The killers' chief tactic, again, plays into the nostalgia factor. They used AI deepfakes to taunt Sidney with the faces of the deceased, mostly old Ghostface killers.

The special guests play as a who's who of Campbell's greatest cinematic hits: Lillard returns as Stu, one of the Ghostfaces in the first *Scream*; Laurie Metcalf returns as the mother of Billy Loomis (Skeet Ulrich) and the *Scream 2* killer; Scott Foley makes a comeback as Roman Bridger, Sidney's secret stepbrother and the Ghostface of *Scream 3*; and David Arquette is back as Dewey, Sidney's close friend and mainstay of the franchise who died during the events of the fifth *Scream*.

***Get your daily dose of entertainment news, celebrity updates, and what to watch with our ******EW Dispatch newsletter******.***

From the kickoff, *Scream 7* was setting up nostalgia as the key play to Williamson's vision. The opening "Drew moment" is staged at the Macher house, now outfitted as an Airbnb. Similar to the first movie, the sequence cuts to Tatum on her bed, mirroring a scene from *Scream* in which Sidney's boyfriend sneaks into her bedroom through the window.

Tatum also unearths her mother's jacket, the same one the character wore in *Scream 2*, and acts in the high school musical. Sidney acted in the college setting of that second film.**

Is it all overkill? Ghostface certainly hopes so.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Saddiq Bey scored 24 points as New Orleans beat the Jazz 115-105 on Saturday night to complete a two-game sweep in Utah after Pelicans star Zion Williamson left the game with an ankle injury.

Williamson left early in the second quarter with a right ankle injury and didn't return. There was no immediate word on the severity of the injury. He had four points, two assists and a rebound in 11 minutes.

Bey, coming off a 42-point performance in Thursday's 129-118 win of the Pelicans, shot 7 for 16 from the field and 3 for 8 from long distance, and was helped by 7-for-10 shooting from the line.

Jeremiah Fears and Bryce McGowens each scored 18 points, Herbert Jones scored 10 of his 17 points in the first half and Jordan Poole added 11. Fears chipped in 11 rebounds and five assists as New Orleans won its fourth straight and for the sixth time in eight games.

Isaiah Collier's 21 points led Utah, which lost its fifth straight. Keyonte George, who was back in the lineup after missing 10 games with ankle sprains, scored 17. Elijah Harkless scored 14, Ace Bailey had 13, Kyle Filipowski added 12 and Brice Sensabaugh 10.

The Pelicans used a 15-0 run to close out the second quarter for a 25-point lead at 65-40 at the break. New Orleans shot 50% (22 for 44) from the field in the first half, while the Jazz sent 14 for 52 (27%).

Utah cut its deficit to 16 points after three quarters and scored the first nine points of the fourth to close within seven. New Orleans then went on an 8-0 run to restore a comfortable advantage and was never threatened again.

For New Orleans, Trey Murphy III missed his fifth straight game due to a right shoulder injury. Dejounte Murray (return to competition conditioning) and Yves Missi (left calf strain) were also out.

The Jazz were missing Jaren Jackson Jr. (left knee), Walker Kessler (left shoulder), Lauri Markkanen (hip), Jusuf Nurkic (nose) and Vince Williams Jr. (left knee).

Arkansas' Taylen Green broke a pair of NFL scouting combine records Anthony Richardson Sr. set in 2023 before the Indianapolis Colts selected him No. 4 overall in the draft.

The 6-foot-6, 227-pound Green logged a 43.5-inch vertical and leapt 11 feet, 2 inches in the broad jump, uncharted territory for quarterbacks in the event.

For reference, Richardson — listed at 6-foot-4, 244 pounds — posted a 40.5-inch vertical and flew 10 feet, 9 inches in the broad jump three years ago in Indianapolis' Lucas Oil Stadium.

Then Green ran a 4.36 40-yard dash, the second-fastest time any QB has ever clocked at the combine.

NFL Network flashed a graphic on its broadcast comparing Green to Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf, but analyst Charles Davis quickly dismissed the notion that Green is entertaining a position switch right now.

"I just asked him very simply, 'With the day you're having and your build and everything else, have people approached you about doing wide receiver drills?'" Davis reported on NFL Network.

"[Green] said, 'No, they have not.'

"I said, 'What would you do if people did approach you to do wide receiver drills?' ... He said, 'Absolutely not. I'm a quarterback.'"

It's a sentiment many athletic quarterbacks before him have shared, most notably two-time NFL MVP Lamar Jackson, and admirably so. But it's important to note that Jackson was a Heisman Trophy winner at Louisville. Green, on the other hand, didn't achieve nearly the same level of success in the collegiate ranks.

Interestingly enough, though, both played under Bobby Petrino.

Where did Taylen Green come from?

Green was a three-star prospect coming out of Lewisville High School in Texas. While there, he set the school record in the long jump and put up some nice dual-threat numbers on the gridiron. As a senior, Green threw for 22 touchdowns and ran for seven more scores.

He was the No. 660 overall recruit, including the 48th-highest rated QB, in the 2021 class, according to the Rivals industry ranking.

Green committed to Boise State, where he spent the first three seasons of his college career. He redshirted in 2021 and started a combined 22 games from 2022-23.

As a redshirt freshman in 2022, he eventually took over the QB1 job and helped the Broncos notch their first double-digit win season in three years. Green totaled 24 touchdowns — 14 passing and 10 rushing — and tossed only six picks, earning Mountain West Freshman of the Year honors.

His 61.3% completion percentage from that season ended up being a single-season career high.

In 2023, Green piloted Boise State to a Mountain West Conference title. Ahead of the 2024 season, he transferred to Arkansas, where he continued to showcase his athleticism but also inconsistency.

In six of the 12 games he played in this past season, he completed less than 60% of his passes. Additionally, Green was picked off 11 times, and Arkansas finished 2-10, although the Razorbacks were undeniably hamstrung by a defense that was eighth-to-last in the country with 33.8 points per game allowed in 2025. Still, Green's persistent scoring production, through the air and on the ground, is noteworthy.

A record-breaking QB workout in Indy

NFL analyst Lance Zierlein described Green's delivery as "long" and "unorthodox" in his NFL.com prospect profile while also pointing out the 23-year-old signal-caller's tendency to put the ball in harm's way.

That said, it's clear Green can create off script, and he has the talent to make all the throws and perhaps the running ability to make up for those he misses.

But he needed a head-turning performance in the combine to draw Day 2 or early Day 3 interest. He delivered Saturday.

As Richardson has proven so far in the NFL, however, athleticism, no matter how impressive, is just part of a complicated equation at the sport's most prestigious position.

Ultimately, Green's consistency as a passer, or lack thereof, will likely make or break his pro career.
