There are so many different ways you can fall in love, and romantic comedies serve to remind us of that. Maybe you're dreaming of an unexpected romance, like in *Hit Man*. You could also be looking for a plot with strong female leads, such as *The Incredible Jessica James* or *Someone Great*. Whatever kind of love story you're in the mood for, you'll find your perfect match on our list of the best romantic comedies currently streaming on Netflix, as of November 2025.

Oh, what a tangled web we weave. William Shakespeare's *The Taming of the Shrew* receives a modern-day makeover in this beloved teen rom-com, set in a Seattle high school. The film begins with new student Cameron (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) falling for sophomore Bianca (Larisa Oleynik), but there's only one problem: Her father won't allow her to date until her independent older sister, Kat (Julia Stiles), finds a beau. He does some matchmaking that leads to bad boy Patrick (Heath Ledger) trying to woo Kat, but this proves more difficult than expected.

EW's critic was highly positive on *10 Things I Hate About You* upon its release, praising how it "casts an amusingly jaundiced eye on the unholy status games of contemporary teen culture." —*Kevin Jacobsen***

Alex Strangelove (2018)

Daniel Doheny as Alex Truelove and Antonio Marziale as Elliot in 'Alex Strangelove'

Daniel Doheny as Alex Truelove and Antonio Marziale as Elliot in 'Alex Strangelove'. Netflix

A coming-of-age rom-com that sees a popular teen wrestle with his sexuality may sound like a familiar narrative, but *Alex Strangelove* adds its own spin. Alex Truelove (Daniel Doheny) lives in an especially progressive and supportive environment for a high school tale, nearly void of the common prejudices against queerness. Still, Alex doesn't know what — or who — he wants, and he has to learn about himself before he can know for sure.

Many LGBTQ+ rom-coms tend to focus on protagonists that are working against societal biases, but *Alex Strangelove* offers a more joyful take on the queer experience. EW's critic praises the film's underlying theme beneath its (occasionally cringey) twist and turns, writing, "It's hard to fault the bigger message here: that we all deserve the right to be true to who we are, even if it takes a few hard turns — and some collateral emotional damage — to get there." —*Angela Andaloro*

Along for the Ride (2022)

Belmont Cameli as Eli and Emma Pasarow as Auden in 'Along for the Ride'

Belmont Cameli as Eli and Emma Pasarow as Auden in 'Along for the Ride'. Emily V. Aragones/Netflix

Based on the novel by Sarah Dessen, night owl Auden (Emma Pasarow) displeases her type-A mom (Andie MacDowell) by going to stay with her absentee dad (Dermot Mulroney), his wife (Kate Bosworth), and their newborn over the summer before college. Now on a mission to taste all the teenage experiences she's missed out on, Auden soon makes her first real group of girlfriends and roams the beach town in the wee hours of the morning. Doing so brings her to meet another night-type, Eli (Belmont Cameli), who has a repressed past of his own.

Sofia Alvarez is no stranger to teen rom-coms, given that she adapted *To All the Boys I've Loved Before* into the hit Netflix film franchise. Now, she's made her feature-length directorial debut with* Along for the Ride*, having collaborated with Dessen, queen of the beach read, on this quintessential summer romance film. "I have always really loved those nostalgic summertime movies that I grew up watching, and I think I immediately saw the potential for this movie to be one of those," Alvarez told EW. "I really wanted it to be the kind of summer movie where you smell the sunscreen through the screen...or it has a soundtrack that everyone is singing in their cars this summer when they're driving to the beach." Spoiler alert: This movie (and its soundtrack by Beach House) achieves all of that and more. —*A.A.*

Always Be My Maybe (2019)

Ali Wong as Sasha Tran and Randall Park as Marcus Kim in 'Always Be My Maybe'

Ali Wong as Sasha Tran and Randall Park as Marcus Kim in 'Always Be My Maybe'. Ed Araquel/Netflix

Who says you can't go home again? Ali Wong shines in this romantic comedy about childhood best friends who cross paths as adults after an awkward teenage romance ended badly. Fast forward 16 years, and life has taken celebrity chef Sasha Tran (Wong) and unsuccessful musician Marcus Kim (Randall Park) to some very different places. Much has changed, but their chemistry sure hasn't as the two come face-to-face with their many differences on the road to reconciliation.

Costars Wong and Park are also co-writers for the film, and, given the hilarity of Wong's Netflix stand-up specials, it's no wonder *Always Be My Maybe* was an instant hit. The central lovebirds have a lot of healing to do from their complicated youths before they can live happily ever after, but the laughter makes it that much sweeter. Throw in a disastrous double date featuring Keanu Reeves playing, well, Keanu Reeves, and you've got yourself a chaotic love triangle unlike any you've seen before. EW's critic highlights the film's graceful lack of tokenism as well: "*Always Be My Maybe *… joins a burgeoning if still too small club of mainstream movies centered without any special pomp or circumstance on Asian American characters." Seriously, what's not to love? —*A.A.*

Coming to America (1988)

Eddie Murphy as Prince Akeem Joffer and Arsenio Hall as Semmi in 'Coming to America'

Eddie Murphy as Prince Akeem Joffer and Arsenio Hall as Semmi in 'Coming to America'. Everett Collection

One of the most beloved Eddie Murphy vehicles of the '80s, *Coming to America* has a little something for everyone. The comedic superstar plays Prince Akeem Joffer, the crown prince of a wealthy African nation who rejects an arranged marriage in favor of finding an independent woman who loves him for him, not his title. So, he and his best friend Sammi (Arsenio Hall) voyage to America, where Akeem meets the woman of his dreams, Lisa (Shari Headley) — though he does not tell her of his royal lineage. Serving as both a traditional romantic comedy and a laugh-out-loud commentary on '80s consumerism, the film is highly rewatchable, even if (like the '80s) not everything has aged perfectly. —*K.J.*

Michelle Yeoh as Eleanor Sung-Young, Henry Golding as Nick Young, and Constance Wu as Rachel Chu in 'Crazy Rich Asians'.

Sanja Bucko/Warner Bros.

With its winning formula of a charismatic cast, familiar tropes, and lavish production design, it's no wonder *Crazy Rich Asians* became the highest-grossing rom-com of the 2010s. Constance Wu stars as Rachel, a New Yorker whose boyfriend (Henry Golding) reveals to her on their flight to Singapore to meet his family that he comes from an obscenely wealthy dynasty. EW's critic calls *Crazy Rich Asians* "a deliriously glossy, globe-trotting trifle — two hours of romantic fantasy and real-estate porn poured on so thick it's almost lickable." We're still waiting on the sequel! —*K.J.***

Groundhog Day (1993)

Bill Murray as Phil Connors in 'Groundhog Day'

Bill Murray as Phil Connors in 'Groundhog Day'. Everett Collection

Groundhog Day has become virtually synonymous with this romantic time loop comedy as much as Punxsutawney Phil himself. Popularizing the concept of an endless repeated day for numerous films to come, *Groundhog Day* centers on jaded TV weatherman Phil Connors (Bill Murray), who finds himself trapped in Punxsutawney, Pa., waking up over and over again on Feb. 2. Only Phil is aware of the time loop, causing him to behave in a variety of ways, from taking advantage of his circumstances to get what he wants to falling into existential despair. Time has been kind to *Groundhog Day* since its 1993 release, especially in how it blends laughs with moments of philosophical insight. —*K.J.*

The Half of It (2020)

Leah Lewis as Ellie Chu and Alexxis Lemire as Aster Flores in 'The Half of It'

Leah Lewis as Ellie Chu and Alexxis Lemire as Aster Flores in 'The Half of It'. KC Bailey/Netflix

In a modern retelling of the classic French play *Cyrano de Bergerac*, Ellie (Leah Lewis) starts ghostwriting love letters for a jock, Paul (Daniel Diemer), in exchange for some much-needed cash. But as she continues to correspond with Paul's dream girl, Aster (Alexxis Lemire), Ellie finds they have a lot in common and wonders if she's actually her better half. Though the romantic tension between the unknowing Aster and the unfortunate Ellie pushes the film forward, the true heart of this story is the blossoming friendship between Ellie and Paul. He may not be able to write to save his life, but Paul speaks up where it counts, causing an intimate and (somewhat) overlapping love triangle between teens who are just trying to learn what life is all about.

The characters' bond is rooted in Lewis and Diemer's genuine affection, too. "Daniel is like my brother now," Lewis told EW. "His belief in me as Daniel definitely translated onscreen where Ellie finds the courage to perform because of Paul's belief in [her]." —*A.A.*

Talk about an unconventional meet-cute. Glen Powell co-wrote and stars in this darkly comedic romantic thriller as Gary Johnson, a mild-mannered college professor who also works with the police posing as a hitman to bust murder-for-hire clients. He proves adept at his undercover job, but, after a woman named Madison (Adria Arjona) hires Gary to kill her husband, he soon finds himself developing feelings, which complicates matters. Powell delivers his best performance to date as the chameleonic faux-assassin, and his chemistry with Arjona is off-the-charts charming. —*K.J.*

The Incredible Jessica James (2017)

Chris O'Dowd as Boone and Jessica Williams as Jessica James in 'The Incredible Jessica James'

Chris O'Dowd as Boone and Jessica Williams as Jessica James in 'The Incredible Jessica James'. Netflix

Jessica Williams (*2 Dope Queens*, *Shrinking*) is a relatable force to be reckoned with in her debut lead role. As the uber-confident Jessica James, she's trying to find out what's next in both her work life and her love life, with New York City as the backdrop. However, a blind date throws a wrench in all her plans as she finds herself unexpectedly falling for Boone (Chris O'Dowd) though she's still not quite over her ex, Damon (LaKeith Stanfield).

While the love story at the center of *The Incredible Jessica James* may seem a little trope-y and basic at times, the protagonist is anything but that. Jessica is a joyful, empowered character who faces her mistakes head-on without beating herself up about them. EW's critic celebrates the rom-com for its not-so-delicate balance, writing, "Even when the film falls into indie clichés, Williams keeps things moving with her cleverness and charisma, whether she's chastising man-spreaders on the subway or introducing an as-yet-unborn baby to the fight to dismantle the patriarchy." —*A.A.*

Trimark Pictures/Courtesy Everett Collection

After graduating from college, a group of friends move in together, hoping to delay the start of the rest of their lives. One of them is Grover (Josh Hamilton), who passes on his girlfriend's offer to study abroad with her. Like many of his future works, Noah Baumbach's directorial debut is a meditation on adults trying to figure out what they want in life. Grover and his friends are far from perfect, as they deal with romance and dashed dreams within their limbo period between college and the real world. "What distinguishes Baumbach," EW's critic observes, "is that his cleverness conceals a ruefully romantic temperament." —*K.J.***

Knocked Up (2007)

Katherine Heigl as Allison Scott and Seth Rogen as Ben Stone in 'Knocked Up'

Katherine Heigl as Allison Scott and Seth Rogen as Ben Stone in 'Knocked Up'. Suzanne Hanover/Universal

Judd Apatow perfected the gross-out rom-com with *Knocked Up*. Eight weeks after a one-night stand, driven reporter Alison (Katherine Heigl) realizes she's pregnant with slacker Ben's (Seth Rogen) baby. Despite having little in common, the pair tries to commit to a relationship with each other, but this proves far more difficult than expected. While the overarching plot plays on classic odd-couple tropes, much of the best humor in the film can be found in the eccentric observations from Ben and his roommates. EW's critic writes, "*Knocked Up* is the very opposite of a storybook romance, and also the very model of a great comedy for our values-driven time." —*K.J.*

Seth Rogen and Charlize Theron may not seem like the most logical cinematic pairing, but any doubts you may have will be long forgotten after viewing this raunchy but sweet romantic comedy. Theron plays Charlotte Field, the U.S. Secretary of State who is getting ready to launch her presidential campaign when she reunites with the man she used to babysit, Fred (Rogen), now a political journalist. Charlotte convinces Fred to help punch up her speeches and go with her on the road, where a romantic connection is formed. EW's critic praises *Long Shot* as "spiked with enough timely media/politics jabs to make it more than just another disposable beauty-and-the-beast gross-out rom-com." —*K.J.*

The Lovebirds (2020)

Issa Rae as Leilani Brooks and Kumail Nanjiani as Jibran in 'The Lovebirds'

Issa Rae as Leilani Brooks and Kumail Nanjiani as Jibran in 'The Lovebirds'. Skip Bolen/Netflix

The relationship between Leilani (Issa Rae) and Jibran (Kumail Nanjiani) is on its last legs and fading fast when the struggling couple is invited to a dinner party. On their way there, a chance encounter with a criminal changes the course of their night — and their separation. If they want to make it out alive and clear their names, the two will have to work together, but not without throwing a few passive-aggressive jabs at each other in the process.

*The Lovebirds* gives viewers a different kind of second-chance romance. It's light on the romance and heavy on the antics, making it an honest portrayal of all that can make or break a relationship — romantic or not. Still, the chemistry between Rae and Nanjiani eliminates any question of their potential as a couple. They bicker in that comfortable, weathered way that shows strain, but that edge may be just what they need to see their situation to the other side. And confronting it all is just as challenging as solving the murder they witnessed. EW's critic notes, "What feels freshest, maybe, is the mere fact of two leads of color taking on all the tropes of the genre and making it feel as modern as they do." —*A.A.*

As the ABBA classic goes, "You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life," and this lovably silly musical rom-com embraces that sentiment wholeheartedly. Adapted from the smash-hit Broadway musical, *Mamma Mia!* centers on a young woman named Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) who invites her three possible fathers to a lush Greek island. Unaware of who her real biological dad is, Sophie hopes to solve the mystery before her upcoming wedding, while her mother, Donna (Meryl Streep), is forced to confront her past. Boosted by Streep's marvelous performance and the shimmering soundtrack of ABBA, *Mamma Mia!* remains a campy delight. —*K.J.***

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie star as John and Jane Smith, a couple whose marriage is on shaky ground. They also happen to both be skilled assassins, though neither is aware of the other's occupation. This all changes when they're both assigned to kill the same target, which complicates everything to the point that they're soon tasked with killing each other. Hijinks ensue, and the film is propelled by the undeniable chemistry between Pitt and Jolie, who EW's critic writes have a "chemical zing." Thus, Brangelina was born. —*K.J.*

Set It Up (2018)

Zoey Deutch as Harper Moore and Glen Powell as Charlie Young in 'Set It Up'

Zoey Deutch as Harper Moore and Glen Powell as Charlie Young in 'Set It Up'. Netflix

Overworked assistants Charlie (Glen Powell) and Harper (Zoey Deutch) have a corporate meet-cute in their shared office building when they bond over their demanding, miserable bosses: venture capitalist Rick Otis (Taye Diggs) and sports media maven Kirsten Stevens (Lucy Liu). Desperate to make their jobs (and lives) easier, Charlie and Harper hatch a plan to merge their superiors into a happy power couple. But playing matchmaker might be way above their pay grade.

A romantic comedy in the same vein as *The Devil Wears Prada* (2006), this film has its fair share of gaslighting, but the twist is its good intentions. Charlie and Harper feel genuine admiration for their successful bosses, and though their motives are self-serving, it's all in the name of love, right? What follows is a satisfying take on the feel-good genre, complete with meditations on work lives, love lives, and everything in between. EW's critic hails *Set It Up* as the "gold standard for the frothy summer rom-com," and she was right on the money. —*A.A.*

Spike Lee exploded onto the scene with his 1986 directorial debut. Made for only $175,000, *She's Gotta Have It* tells the story of Nola (Tracy Camilla Johns), a graphic artist in Brooklyn who juggles relationships with three men, each with their own distinct personality. The situation becomes complicated after the men meet and figure out what's happening. Meanwhile, Nola comes to realize the value of her freedom as a sexually liberated person. Lauded for its depiction of a confident Black woman at a time when Hollywood rarely centered such characters, *She's Gotta Have It* proved to be predictive of the kinds of groundbreaking stories Lee would tell in the decades to come. The Oscar-winning filmmaker also adapted the film into a Netflix series in 2017. —*K.J.***** Where to watch *She's Gotta Have It*: Netflix******Director:** Spike Lee******Cast:** Tracy Camilla Johns, Tommy Redmond Hicks, John Canada Terrell, Spike Lee, Raye Dowell**

Someone Great (2019)

DeWanda Wise as Erin Kennedy, Gina Rodriguez as Jenny Young, and Brittany Snow as Blair Helms in 'Someone Great'

DeWanda Wise as Erin Kennedy, Gina Rodriguez as Jenny Young, and Brittany Snow as Blair Helms in 'Someone Great'. Netflix

This charming directorial debut by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson proves that break-up movies can make for great rom-coms. Jenny (Gina Rodriguez) lands her dream job at *Rolling Stone*, but it costs her her longtime boyfriend (LaKeith Stanfield). Desperate for a last hurrah in New York City before her big move, the new bachelorette rallies friends Blair (Brittany Snow) and Erin (DeWanda Wise) to help send her off, though it proves to be anything but a clean break.

The misadventures of their big night out inspire each woman to reflect on whether they've been choosing their relationships over themselves. The result is an empowering, modern spin on what's expected from the genre, placing sisterhood and self-love at the center stage. Ever the rom-com expert, EW's critic heralds *Something Great* as "... a newer breed of movie: the scrappy female-POV in which the love story at the center is as much about friendship or the face in the mirror as it is about any one man." —*A.A.*

Noah Centineo as Peter Kavinsky and Lana Condor as Lara Jean Song-Covey in 'To All the Boys I've Loved Before'. Netflix

One of the better teen rom-coms for the modern age, *To All the Boys I've Loved Before* was a smashing success for Netflix upon its 2018 release. Lana Condor plays Lara Jean Covey, a high schooler who secretly pens love letters to crushes but never sends them. Her younger sister finds them stashed away and decides to mail them herself, leading to a fair share of awkward situations. To prevent her current crush from initiating yet another cringey confrontation, she impulsively kisses one of her former crushes (Noah Centineo), which proves to be the catalyst for an ever-evolving relationship.

*To All the Boys I've Loved Before* was very well-received, with EW's critic calling it "breezy and charming." Netflix released two sequels to the film: *To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You* in 2020 and *To All the Boys: Always and Forever* in 2021, though the original remains the series' best entry. —*K.J.*

PEOPLE has an exclusive look at the upcoming MGM+ docuseries

Words + Music is making its return — with a visual twist.

Audible has brought its popular audio series of the same name to the small screen and PEOPLE is exclusively sharing the trailer. This time, the series will feature conversations with four members of the Songwriters' Hall of Fame: Elvis Costello, Sheryl Crow, John Legend and Alanis Morissette.

The docuseries will feature the musicians recalling the stories behind pivotal songs from their careers. Each signer will perform new renditions of the songs on the Amazon MGM Studio's volume stage.

Their performances will be enhanced by the immersive video environment. "As the artists' stories unfold, the environment around them will transform to reflect each anecdote and song, creating an intimate yet visually stunning experience," the official press release said.

Alanis Morissette in 'Words + Music'

The exclusive clip kicks off with Legend, 46, asking, "Words and music, which comes first?" Then cuts to Crow, 63, singing before saying, "This will take you places you'd never expect to go."

The trailer then teases how each artist will open up about the vulnerability behind each of their songs and the stories that brought them there. Briefly, Legend sings, "All of Me," and seven-time Grammy winner Morissette, 51, belting her 1995 hit, "Ironic."

Jessica Perez/MGM+

John Legend in 'Words + Music'

Legend, a 13-time Grammy winner, is seen stepping away from his piano and telling the live audience, "It felt like a good marriage." Morissette then tells the crowd, "Anger moves worlds. Anger sets boundaries."

Gunpowder & Sky is producing the series, and CEO Van Toffler exclusively tells PEOPLE, "Throughout the new Words + Music series, we've enabled musicians to bring their songs and stories to life in real time through compelling visuals, high-res art, and tech-enhanced volume stages. There's still nothing more human, powerful, or emotional than a killer marriage of music, performance, and imagery."

"Words + Music has more than achieved our goal of reimagining and revolutionizing [MTV's] Storytellers and Unplugged — with a touch of acid and a healthy dose of naturally occurring steroids," he adds.

Jessica Perez/MGM+

Elvis Costello in 'Words + Music'

The predecessor to the docuseries included 40 different audio-only installments, featuring conversations with Usher, Mariah Carey, Pete Townshend, Snoop Dogg, Eddie Vedder, Yo-Yo Ma, James Taylor, Sting, Chuck D, Brandy, George Clinton and many more.

Meghan Markle is all smiles on set!

The Duchess of Sussex, 44, was photographed on the Pasadena, California, set of the Amazon MGM Studios film Close Personal Friends. On Nov. 6, The Daily Mail and The Sun published images of Meghan — sporting sunglasses, a button-down shirt, a white maxi skirt and sandals — giving a wave as she got into the back seat of a Range Rover.

The movie stars Brie Larson, Lily Collins, Jack Quaid and Henry Golding, and Meghan will play herself.

An insider confirmed to PEOPLE on Nov. 5 that Meghan was on the set of the movie that day. "She has a small part," the insider said. "She seemed very relaxed and happy. She introduced herself to everyone and was very sweet and down-to-earth."

PEOPLE has reached out to a spokesperson for the Duchess of Sussex for comment.

Meghan was working as an actress, with a recurring role on Suits, when she met Prince Harry. The new movie marks her return to acting since leaving the legal drama.

A studio source told The Sun, which was first to report the news: "This is a massive moment for Meghan and signifies a return to doing what she truly loves. She has been swamped with offers, but this one felt right."

"It is Meghan's way of gently putting her toe back in the water and seeing how she enjoys being back on set," the source said. "Everyone involved is super-excited and have been sworn to secrecy about her involvement."

The source added, "Prince Harry is, of course, really supportive and quite simply wants Meghan to do whatever brings her joy."

The move comes despite Meghan previously saying she was finished with acting.

In Harry and Meghan's 2017 engagement interview, she spoke about stepping back from acting to move to the U.K. and become a full-time working member of the royal family.

"I don't see it as giving anything up, I just see it as a change," she said then.

"It's a new chapter. Right. And also keep in mind I've been working on my show for seven years. So we're very very fortunate to be able to have that sort of longevity on a series and for me, once we hit the 100-episode marker I thought, you know what, I have ticked this box and I feel really proud of the work I've done there and now it's time to, as you said, work as a team with you," she said, referring to Harry.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped back from their royal roles in 2020 and now are raising their two children in Meghan's home state of California.

Despite living in Montecito, within driving distance of Los Angeles, Meghan echoed that she was not looking to get back into acting. In a 2022 interview with Variety for their Power of Women issue, Meghan said she was "done" with acting.

"I guess never say never, but my intention is to absolutely not," she said at the time.

Hilary Duff is reminiscing on her days on the Disney Channel

Duff, who starred as Lizzie McGuire in the eponymous show, said in a new interview that other Disney stars Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato reached out to her when they were also on the rise

"At some point like Selena and Demi both approached me at at certain things like years and years and years ago," Duff said

Hilary Duff says that fellow Disney Channel stars Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato reached out to her at certain points during their own early acting days — though she wasn't necessarily a mentor to either.

Duff, 38, portrayed Lizzie McGuire on the Disney Channel show and 2003 movie, while Gomez portrayed Alex Russo in the Disney Channel series Wizards of Waverly Place and Lovato appeared in the Camp Rock films.

Speaking on the Therapuss podcast hosted by Jake Shane, Duff said, "I can't remember exactly, but I know at some point like Selena and Demi both approached me at certain things like years and years and years ago."

"Then they were like, you know, really lovely and really sweet and kind and telling me how much they love me and that kind of conversation. But I was never like, let me show you the way," she added.

She continued: "Which, thank goodness because it's been so fun to watch all of them pave their way and watch the journey. It's been like insane. Like what a ride for all of all of the Disney people, you know?"

Duff added that, even though she was a big star due to her work on the Disney Channel, her kids aren't quite so impressed. "Every night I put them to sleep and I'm like, 'Let me tell you about how big I was in Disney Channel. The network I was on, it was big kids.' No. They don't know and they don't care at all."

Elsewhere on the podcast, Duff recounted some of the perils of her young stardom — like paparazzi snapping photos of what appeared to be a condom in her handbag while she was crossing the street.

"I think just because I grew up in the time of scandal and them wanting to catch you doing something. Everybody wanted to catch me doing something bad," Duff said on the podcast.

She continued, "And I remember I was crossing the street with my friend Marco, and I was in front of Kitson, and it was when jelly bags were cool, see-through jelly bags, and a paparazzi took a picture of me and was like, 'There's a condom in her bag.'"

"I don't know if it was a condom or a valet ticket," she added. "It was a square piece of paper in my bag, and all of a sudden, I got a phone call from my mom. She was like, 'Is there a condom in your bag? And blah, blah, blah.' — And I just remember feeling like, 'I'm in trouble. I'm caught. I did something bad,' and I was just a normal age."

Duff clarified she was "like 17 or something" at the time, adding, "I'm like, 'I don't know if it was a condom. I think I'm being safe.'"

Duff released her first original new music in 10 years with the single "Mature" dropping on Thursday, Nov. 6. "So happy this is finally yours to hear. Been keeping this one quiet too long," she wrote on Instagram in announcing the new music. Duff is married to musician Matthew Koma and the two share four children: daughters Banks Violet, Mae James, and Townes. Duff also has a son, Luca, whom she shares with ex-husband Mike Comrie.

- *Survivor 49* star Nate Moore says he was 'shell-shocked' by the 'gut punch' of being voted out of the game.

- Nate explains his endgame plan had he stayed, which included possibly flipping on Rizo and Savannah.

- The ousted player also reveals the original Hina tribe member he tried to work with, leading right up to his exit vote.

Nate Moore knows all about superheroes from his years as a Marvel movie producer, yet no special powers could save him from elimination on this week's episode of *Survivor*.

After Sage Ahrens-Nichols and Jawan Pitts flipped away from original Uli, Nate was vulnerable once the new coalition believed there was no way Rizo Velovic would ever play his immunity idol for the Rad Dad so decided to load all of their votes on the unsuspecting victim. It was a quick and brutal blindside on a guy who seemed destined for a much deeper run.

How does Nate feel about his untimely demise? Did her ever suspect Sage and Jawan had flipped? And what was his endgame plan had he stayed? We spoke to the eighth person out — who was my pre-season pick to win the game — about all that and more, including what we didn't see on TV.

Nate Moore on 'Survivor 49'

Nate Moore on 'Survivor 49'.

**NATE MOORE:** Thanks for jinxing me.

**: Yeah, that's my bad. But I think the question on everybody's mind right now is: Would you say your blindside qualifies as cinema?**

I think that was cinema. I'm not sure it was as much of a blindside as it seemed, because we knew it was the leverage point in the game where either old Uli would stick together or not, but I do think that was cinema.

**Did you ever get any sense on your part that Sage and Jawan had flipped?**

Essentially the Shannon story kind of held together, but not a hundred percent. Because I had talked to Sage, and Shannon had sort of told Sage that she might have been on the bottom of our alliance. So we knew we had some repair to do.

In our conversations though, our pitch to Jawan and Sage was, "Let's stay together as a strong six, because you're guaranteed top six. If you go to the other side, then you're in a seven alliance of three different tribes and you don't really know where you're sitting. And we knew that Alex was always going to play the middle. We didn't think we had Alex, but we thought Sage and Jawan would be smart to stick with us, because from a numbers perspective, they do have a better shot.

Nate correctly predicts 'Survivor 49' challenge twist in exclusive deleted scene

'Survivor 49' recap: Jeff Probst asks for a big move… and gets it

And my relationship with Jawan wasn't tight, but my relationship with Sage was actually pretty good. And I would have worked with her. When we reunited, what I told her, which I think is true, is I knew that Savannah, Rizo and Sophi were starting to get closer. And I was like, "Look, Sage, there's a chance we're going to have to team up and maybe we flip it, but let's stick together for now."

So, going into that Tribal, I remember Rizo, Savannah, and I having a conversation where it's like, "Either we're going to get through this and go final six, or something bad's about to happen and then we're going to have to figure out how to pick up the pieces."

Nate Moore on 'Survivor 49'

Nate Moore on 'Survivor 49'.

**So if you knew there was a chance you all were in trouble, was there ever any discussion about Rizo playing his idol for someone?**

Yes. And Rizo offered to play it for me. He was like, "Look, if I feel it…." [Laughs] And I, very dumbly, was like, "Don't do that man. You got to save it for yourself!" And I remember Savannah asking Rizo if he would play it for her, and he said "Maybe."

So there was a little bit of like, will Rizo play it for either of us? And Rizo also knew he was at risk. And so the last conversation I had with Savannah before we left for Tribal, it was me and her on the beach. Everybody was going to get their torches. And I said, "Savannah, I think it's you or me, we're going to catch votes."

Did I think I was going home? Not necessarily, but I knew one of us was going to catch the votes because we both knew that whatever alliance was there was not going to vote for Rizo because they were so scared of that idol. So like the Matt vote, I was like, "Look, I'll see my name on the parchment." And I think you can see it in the episode. I see my name, I'm like, "Okay, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5." I was pretty sure whoever was going to get five, because again, I knew Alex wasn't with us. At six, I was like, "Oh, boy. That's not good."

**It's a lot to take in being voted out of *Survivor*, so how did you handle that in the hours and days after your torch snuffing?**

It's a gut punch. I truly didn't think it was going to happen then. I didn't want to be super salty about it. You're angry, and in the moment, Savannah and Sophi were very shocked., I think Rizo was a little bit of ahead of it and was like, "F---!" And I truly felt that was my core alliance. I felt bad because I was like, "Oh f---, this is the tip of the iceberg of something very bad potentially happening."

And it does feel surreal because you're so intense in that game, even for 14 days to go like, "Oh, you're done." It's like getting off of a roller coaster immediately. I was shell-shocked. I was also so tired. Part of me was like, "Well, this could be worse." [Laughs] Um, I didn't want to leave, but since I was leaving, I didn't want to do it in a way that wasn't dignified, because I was like, "My wife's watching, my kids are watching. I don't want to be salty about it."

Nate Moore of 'Survivor 49'

Nate Moore of 'Survivor 49'.

**We saw you in the big four alliance with Savannah, Shannon, and Rizo. What was your endgame plan? Was it to go to the end with Savannah and Rizo?**

I thought it was going to be hard to beat Rizo. Rizo is incredibly charming. He has a great story and I was not sure I could beat him. I thought Savannah would've been interesting, and again, those were sort of my core two. Sophi, I loved, but I think at that point in the game, because she sort of came from a Kele tribe that was decimated, there wasn't a big focus on her.

The other people I wanted to play with were Sage and MC, actually. I had a conversation with MC where I said, "Look, if you trust me, don't play your idol. I think you're safe, and I think we can go far in the game." But she asked me who I was voting for, and I couldn't tell her the truth because if I told her Steven, I didn't want her to play her idol for Steven. So I told her Kristina, because I didn't know that she knew we were voting for Steven. So she didn't trust anything I said when really, I was truthful that I wanted to play with MC.

She's great, and I think we would've been good shields for each other because we were also the two most physically fit people out there. So my plan was: Let's get to seven with old Uli, Sophi, and MC, and then maybe I would have to pick a path. Do I think I can get to the finals with Rizo and Savannah? I wouldn't mind it. If I felt like Rizo, Savannah, and Sophi were too tight, then at least I would have numbers if I had to flip the game with MC, Jawan and Sage, was what I was thinking in my head. But obviously, life had different plans.

Nate Moore on 'Survivor 49'

Nate Moore on 'Survivor 49'.

**Original Uli never had to go to Tribal Council. What would have happened if you all had gone?**

Jawan would've gone first. I don't think Sage would've liked it, but he would've gone. I think it probably would've been unanimous. So it was a core four, and Sage and I had a good thing, I thought. And I would've wanted to loop her in because I did like her and wanted to protect her. If we got down to the next vote, that's when it would've gotten sticky, because Sage was a little bit on the outs, which she felt. And l ultimately found out that Shannon had told her, which did not help anybody, [Laughs]

For me, I was closest with Rizo and Savannah, but I really liked Shannon. I know some of the talk back of Shannon as a character on the show was not positive, but Shannon and I had a really good relationship. She's a lovely kid and we really bonded. So it would've been hard at five. At six, it was obvious it was Jawan.

**You play *Survivor* and see it through your eyes but your eyes only. What has been the biggest surprise for you watching it all play back on TV?**

I thought I was edited pretty accurately. For me, the blind spot was Shannon and Sage's relationship deteriorating so quickly on Hina. And I will say the other thing I didn't realize is we assumed Hina was a tighter group than I think they were. Those were the two elements that was hard to suss.

The second tribe swap for me was super scary, because I ended up with Kristina, Alex, and Sophie, and I assumed that Kristina and Sophie would be tight, and that maybe I could wedge myself between Alex and them. I'm not sure that was true. And you saw it a little bit when they wanted to use Sophie as maybe the burn vote, where I was like, "Oh, maybe Sophie and Kristina weren't as tight as I assumed they were because Hina, like us, just kept winning too." So they didn't really ever have to test those bonds.

Nate Moore on 'Survivor 49'

Robert Voets/CBS

**So  what do you think would've happened had you guys after that second tribe swap gone to Tribal?**

I think I would've been out of there. I would have been outta there so fast. [Laughs] I had no alibi. And it's interesting, because I was watching the episode going like, "Well, MC played that really well. Why did I play that so poorly?" But I realized because MC had no voting record to defend, she could've come and just been like, "Hey, I want to play with you guys." I had to justify why two Hina members went out to two Hina members, so my lie was not great.

And Sophie in the episode completely was right. I wasn't going to turn on Uli and I didn't think I had any footing to wedge myself. I tried with Kristina a little bit. I tried with Sophie a little bit. I tried with Alex a little bit. Alex is great and he says it, that he's sort of hard to read because of his job. And so I never really felt like, "Oh, this guy and I are connecting." I did feel like I had moments of that with Sophie and Kristina, but I just never assumed I could get between them. So I think if we would not have come back in that maze, I would've been out of there certainly sooner than I was.

Nate Moore and Kristina Mills on 'Survivor 49'

Nate Moore and Kristina Mills on 'Survivor 49'.

**Okay, a question about the socks. Were the Rad Dad socks just a goofy, fun thing from your wife, or was that part of your strategy like, "Hey, I've never hung out with Black Panther and Captain America. I'm just a happy-go-lucky stay at home dad!" Was there any strategy in the socks?**

No strategy. It was my wife saying, "I got these for you. Will you wear them?" And me saying "Sure." And not thinking there were going to be a point of anything. I don't buy my own clothes. My wife is lovely and dresses me. But I was surprised at how quickly I was the dad of Uli. I don't feel like I'm old, but I am old in the world of *Survivor*.

So when we landed on the beach and I was like, "Oh, I'm 16 years older than the next oldest person on my tribe. Oh, baby, I'm in trouble." Because it's a social game and the more you are different — and that difference can be age, ethnicity, gender — but as soon as you are an other,  you're climbing a hill. And no one else had kids and no one else was married. I was just in such a specific spot. And I either had to embrace that role and be like, "I'm the dad. That's what I'm going to do." Or reject it, and rejecting it wasn't going to work. So I just embraced it.

Nate Moore and Sophi Balerdi on 'Survivor 49'

Nate Moore and Sophi Balerdi on 'Survivor 49'.

**Finally, what's something that happened out there that didn't make it to TV that you wish we had seen?**

There are a couple things that come to mind. One was a Matt thing. When I landed in the first tribe swap with Matt, the first person I went to talk to was Matt. Because I was dying to talk to somebody from my generation and figure out if I could work with this guy. And so the first minutes of that new Hina, we went off looking for crabs and talking, because I was like, "Well, maybe this is somebody that I could work with because we certainly, at least on paper, would seem to have a lot in common."

And then immediately after he and Jawan go fishing, Jawan's like, "You know, he is throwing your name out in the boat." And I was like, "Bro!" That's why I was so salty at it, because I'm like: Man, I wanted to play with that guy from as soon as I saw him and immediately was like, "Oh, I can't trust this man." So that was a bummer.

And then the MC Journey challenge…. I mean, that challenge, Dalton, was literally one of the physically hardest things I did, because you're just walking through sand in the open sun, and by the time we got to the twist, I was so tired. I was like, "I'm not about to go run in the jungle looking for something against someone who again, physically was so superior."

And as silly as it seemed, there wasn't even a conversation. There was no debate. It was just like, "Yeah, let's just get out of here. What are we doing?" As Journeys go, I would argue that was physically the toughest. And it kicked my ass for like three or four days afterwards. I was toast.

Fans are currently gearing up for the premiere of *Stranger Things* season 5, which marks the conclusion to the pop culture phenomenon that began back in 2016. The first four episodes of the final season will arrive this Nov. 26, followed by the next three on Christmas Day and the series finale dropping simultaneously in select theaters and on Netflix on New Year's Eve.

The Duffers vaguely teased plans for more spinoffs. Most recently, Matt told *Variety*, "It's so different than something like *Star Wars*. It doesn't really work like that."

Ross also told the trade publication that a planned spinoff, as well as any others, would "live in a bit of a different world. There's going to be connective tissue, but you're almost anthologizing in a way. Because we're not *Star Wars*. We can't be like, 'Oh, now we're on this planet.'"**
