*The Last of Us* season 3's team found their Yara and Lev, two key figures from the Abby-centric portion of the continuing story.

Michelle Mao and Kyriana Kratter are joining the cast of the HBO drama, ** has learned. Mao, playing the "evil stepsister" role of Rosamund Li on season 4 of *Bridgerton*, will play Yara. Kratter, who appeared on *Star Wars: Skeleton Crew* as youngling KB, will play Lev.

After tracking Ellie (Bella Ramsey) and her revenge mission with Dina (Isabela Merced) through Seattle to find Joel's (Pedro Pascal) killer, the season 2 cliffhanger jumped backwards to cover the same time period, now from the perspective of Abby (Kaitlyn Dever). Abby's storyline, which is consistent with the *Last of Us Part II* video game on which it's based, prominently features siblings Yara and Lev, who are members of the Seraphite cult.

The Seraphites are in a war with the Washington Liberation Front (W.L.F.), of which Abby and her crew are members.

According to the character's description in the game from the developers at Naughty Dog, Yara, a role originated by Victoria Grace, is the eldest daughter of a Seraphite mother. Once outwardly unquestioning of her faith, she meets Abby and finds the strength to stand for her own believes and protect her younger brother, Lev.

Lev is one of the more prominent representations of a trans person in modern gaming, a role originated by Ian Alexander. Expressing such an identity is obviously dangerous as a member of a fundamentalist community. Described as loyal, austere, and true to his values, Lev was once sheltered from the outside world but now seeks to forge a path as a warrior upon meeting Abby.

Mao and Kratter join previously announced season 3 cast members Patrick Wilson, Jason Ritter, Clea Duvall, and Jorge Lendeborg Jr.

Wilson will play Abby's father, Jerry Anderson, the Firefly surgeon Joel killed in the season 1 finale to save Ellie from the operating table. Ritter, who previously appeared in the background of season 1 as a Clicker, will now play a more prominent role as a W.L.F. soldier named Hanley. Duvall joins Mao and Kratter on Team Seraphite, which the W.L.F. cruelly calls Scars.

Lendeborg, meanwhile, will take over the role of Manny, a member of Abby's crew played by Danny Ramirez in season 2. Ramirez departed the show due to scheduling conflicts.

Craig Mazin, who developed the series with game co-creator Neil Druckmann, will now serve as the sole showrunner and lead writer. Druckmann scaled back his responsibilities to focus on making Naughty Dog's next big game, *Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet*. He remains attached as an executive producer.

HBO head Casey Bloys signaled *The Last of Us* season 3 will premiere sometime in 2027.
