Taylor Frankie Paul's mom, Liann May, shared a message about "times of hardship" on her Instagram Stories

The post follows multiple reports of domestic violence allegations and investigations involving Paul and her ex-boyfriend Dakota Mortensen, who share 2-year-old son Ever

A video leaked on March 19 showed Paul throwing a chair at Mortensen following a 2023 domestic incident, and later that day, ABC announced the cancellation of her season of The Bachelorette

Taylor Frankie Paul's mom is reflecting on "times of hardship."

On Tuesday, May 24, Liann May took to her Instagram Stories to share a message. In the post, she tagged her reality star daughter, who is currently facing domestic violence allegations from her ex Dakota Mortensen.

Alongside a screenshot of a Bible passage about never giving up, May added, "Today, outside reading some scriptures and a ladybug landed at that moment on top of me. In times of hardship, subtle revelations sometimes appear-small symbols that carry meaning & remind us me [sic] are not alone."

She also included a screenshot breaking down what ladybugs represent as symbols of good luck, protection, transformation and new beginnings.

May's post comes over one week after ABC announced on Thursday, March 19, that Paul's season of The Bachelorette, which was set to premiere on Sunday, March 22, had been canceled. The season was pulled after TMZ published a video from 2023 showing Paul throwing chairs at Mortensen while a child was present.

Paul was previously arrested for alleged domestic violence in 2023 following an argument with Mortensen, with whom she shares 2-year-old son Ever. She pled guilty in abeyance to aggravated assault, which means that if she complies with the conditions of the plea, that charge will be dismissed. Meanwhile, the other charges have already been dismissed.

Following the release of the 2023 video, a spokesperson for Paul told PEOPLE, "It's sad to see the latest installment of his never-ending, desperate, attention-seeking, destructive campaign to harm Taylor without any regard for the consequences for their child. Releasing an old video, which conveniently omits context, on their son's birthday is a reprehensible attempt to distract from his own behavior. Thankfully, the public has seen this act before and knows who he is and sadly, many will recognize this pattern of manipulation, both in his actions on the show, and from their own experiences."

In his own statement to PEOPLE, Mortensen said, "As anyone who has seen the video will understand, this is a deeply upsetting situation. I am, unfortunately, used to these baseless claims about me and our relationship, which I categorically deny. I am focusing on our son and his safety, and hope that Taylor will do the same."

Shortly after the video was leaked, Mortensen filed for a protective order against Paul, per court docs obtained by PEOPLE. Through the protective order, he was also granted "temporary custody" of their son Ever. A hearing has been set for April 7, at which point Paul will be allowed to tell her side of the story to the court.

Paul is also reportedly under investigation following allegations of a third domestic violence incident involving her and Mortensen. On Tuesday, March 24, a police spokesperson in Utah confirmed to NBC News that officials were investigating another incident connected to Paul, 31, and her ex, which reportedly occurred in 2024.

The outlet noted that Mortensen, 33, had contacted the state's West Jordan Police Department last month. However, the spokesman declined to provide further details due to the case being an open investigation. The spokesperson told NBC News that they couldn't share exact dates regarding the alleged incident, but said that authorities had been reviewing multiple videos.

In addition to The Bachelorette being pulled from screens, a source confirmed to PEOPLE on Monday, March 16, that The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives halted its season 5 production due to "some pretty serious stuff happening regarding [Paul's] past."

Another source close to the cast confirmed to PEOPLE that the fellow members of MomTok are distancing themselves from Paul as the situation continues to unfold. "None of the women want to be associated with her," the source noted.

On Wednesday, March 18, Paul appeared on Good Morning America, calling the circumstances "so heavy."

"When your life is broadcast out there in these headlines, it's like the end of the world, that's what it feels like — I'm not going to lie," she said. "I will say I've been here before and I got through it and I've shared my story and my light, and I'm hoping I can do that again."

In a statement shared with Entertainment Weekly, a rep for Mortensen said his "number one priority here is protecting" their son. "He knew there was a possibility it could come out, but he was not going to be the one to proactively do that because he has always wanted a decent relationship with Taylor. It's been really hard to achieve that, but he wants to co-parent well."

"He was just hoping that if he says nothing, as he usually does, it would go away," the rep continued. "He's never done any kind of sitdown interview about his side. He kind of just lets it all happen to him, and I think he realizes with the severity of everything now that he just can't do that."
