Her partner, A$AP Rocky, recently hinted at their marital status.

This week, Rihanna was seen in Los Angeles at the County Department of Public Health Vital Records office wearing a chic business look. The ANTI singer stepped down the office building steps in a black suit composed of a double-breasted jacket over black slacks, both with unfinished hems. The jacket covered a white blouse with a sculptural neckline, the collar popped up to frame her face.

For accessories, she wore black pointed-toe heels and carried a Gucci purse, wearing a pair of sunglasses by The Attico. She had her hair down and straight and her ears were adorned by a number of silver earrings.

Rihanna may have been at the office to pick up paperwork related to the birth of her daughter, Rocki Irish Mayers. They announced Rocki's arrival in September, who joined her big brothers RZA, 3, and Riot, 2.

Ahead of her birth, Rocky spoke with ELLE for his October cover story, in which he said, "I hope it's a girl. I really do. We're praying for a girl."

"Our first time, we wanted to know the sex of the baby," he added. "The second time, we didn't want to know. Third time, we don't want to know until, you know." But Rocky had a hunch the odds were in their favor to have their first daughter: "I feel like it's going to be a girl. This pregnancy is so different from the other two. You can tell from the experience. I hope it's a baby girl, man. I need that."

He also made a cheeky reference to rumors that he and Rihanna have tied the knot, joking, "How you know I'm not already a husband?" The rapper laughed, adding, "I'm still not gonna confirm it."

*Christy* just got knocked out before the end of the first round — but Sydney Sweeney is taking it in stride.

The actress, who plays the titular role in the boxing biopic based on the life of Christy Martin, is speaking out following the film's disappointing debut weekend. According to Box Office Mojo, *Christy*'s measly yield of $1.3 million at the domestic box office puts it among the top 12 worst openings for a new release on more than 2,000 screens. The list also includes three post-COVID-19 releases and two re-released titles.

"I am so deeply proud of this movie," Sweeney wrote in a Monday morning Instagram post, sharing a carousel of behind-the-scenes photos from the shoot. "Proud of the film David [Michôd] made. Proud of the story we told. Proud to represent someone as strong and resilient as Christy Martin. This experience has been one of the greatest honors of my life."

She continued, "This film stands for survival, courage, and hope. Through our campaigns, we've helped raise awareness for so many affected by domestic violence. We all signed on to this film with the belief that Christy's story could save lives."

*Christy* tells the story of the groundbreaking professional boxer Christy Martin, who rose to fame in the '90s and became one of the most prominent female athletes in the sport with 49 wins, seven losses, and three draws across her career. Martin also made headlines due to turmoil in her personal life: The boxer married her coach Jim Martin in 1991, and he attempted to murder her in their home in 2010. He was ultimately found guilty of attempted murder in the second degree, and the athlete is now married to rival boxer Lisa Holewyne.

Praising the boxer who inspired the movie, Sweeney continued, "If Christy gave even one woman the courage to take her first step toward safety, then we will have succeeded. So yes I'm proud. Why? Because we don't always just make art for numbers, we make it for impact. And Christy has been the most impactful project of my life. Thank you Christy. I love you."

*Christy* ultimately debuted at 11th overall behind titles such as *Predator: Badlands*, the latest Colleen Hoover adaptation *Regretting You, The Black Phone 2* (in its fourth week of release),* *and the psychological indie* Die My Love. *The biopic marks Sweeney's third box office flop of the year, following a similarly disappointing debut for the Ron Howard-directed survival thriller *Eden*, and *Americana*, a modern-day Western that saw Sweeney star alongside Halsey. *Eden* opened to just over $1 million domestically while *Americana* opened to an estimated $500,000, but inspired much debate over whether it could be categorized as a box office bomb.

Sweeney's recent box office woes have led many to speculate that her contentious public persona has been affecting her ability to draw in an audience. After breaking out for her role as Cassie Howard on HBO's *Euphoria*, Sweeney sparked outrage in 2023 after photos emerged from her mother's 60th birthday featuring red MAGA-inspired hats. "There were so many misinterpretations," she said of the photos that year. "The people in the pictures weren't even my family."

She later started a social media frenzy with her controversial partnership with Dr. Squatch, which sold a limited-edition soap marketed as Sweeney's bathwater. But much more divisive was the reaction to her American Eagle ad campaign, released in July, which played up the homophones "jeans" and "genes," leading many to accuse the ad of promoting eugenics.

Sweeney was largely silent on the controversy, but the firestorm only grew as conservative figures from Megyn Kelly to President Donald Trump weighed in, supporting the actress' ad campaign. Sweeney finally addressed the issue earlier this month, declining to respond to the "genetic superiority" criticism and telling *GQ*, "I think that when I have an issue that I want to speak about, people will hear."

She also told the outlet that she is not concerned about people not showing up for her movies due to personal controversies.

"If somebody is closed off — because of something they read online — to a powerful story like *Christy,* then I hope that something else can open their eyes to being open to art and being open to learning," she replied. "I'm not going to be affected by that."

Sweeney has also enjoyed some big wins at the box office in the past few years, most notably with the rom-com *Anyone But You*, which grossed an impressive $220 million worldwide against a reported $25 million budget.

Like the malevolent clown dancing in its dark heart, *IT: Welcome to Derry* is a strange creature.

The series is technically a prequel to 2017's *IT* and 2019's *IT Chapter Two, *which were adapted from Stephen King's 1986 epic novel about Derry, Maine, a small town being terrorized by an ancient, child-devouring evil that surfaces every 27 years. According to co-creator Andy Muschietti, who also directed the films, *Welcome to Derry* will adapt the book's various interludes, which dig deep into Derry's violent history and how its namesake creature factors into it.

And while that's true, the show is also its own beast, deviating greatly from King's story by weaving in military intrigue, spycraft, and Native American mythology. That gives the creative team ample freedom to flesh out their vision of Derry, all while paying tribute to the breadth of King's vast oeuvre, which, by virtue of the author's penchant for cross-pollination, lends itself to Easter eggs.

What an Easter egg *is*, exactly, is up for interpretation. But for the purposes of this piece, we're focusing on direct and oblique references to the book *IT* and King's work in general. Also, for the sake of clarity, we'll be calling the story's nameless shapeshifter Pennywise, the leering clown that often serves as its painted face.

Below are all of the Stephen King Easter eggs in *Welcome to Derry. *Be sure to bookmark this piece, as we'll be updating it after each new episode.

Episode 1: 'The Pilot'

Bert the Turtle in 'IT: Welcome to Derry' episode 1

Bert the Turtle in 'IT: Welcome to Derry' episode 1.

- The surname of Leroy Hanlon (Jovan Adepo) will be familiar to fans of both the novel and its adaptations, as it's shared by Mike, a key member of the Losers' Club who goes on to become the town's librarian (and the researcher of the interludes on which *Welcome to Derry* is based). An older version of Leroy (played by Steven Williams) is seen in Muschietti's *IT* films showing Mike (Chosen Jacobs) the ropes at his abattoir.****

- Fans may also recognize the surname of Teddy Uris (Mikkal Karim-Fidler), the broccoli-haired pre-teen who features heavily in episode 1. Stan Uris (played by Wyatt Oleff and Andy Bean in the films) is among the most ill-fated members of the Losers' Club. Considering what happens to Teddy at the end of episode 1, it's likely his brother, not him, who is Stan's father.

- We don't spend much time with him in episode 1, but the Black soldier seen with Leroy at the Derry military base is Dick Hallorann (Chris Chalk). Hallorann is best known from *The Shining*, in which he teaches a young Danny Torrance to use his psychic gift. The character also appears briefly in *IT*'s first interlude, though it's clear his role will be expanded on in this series.****

- One of the more curious elements of *IT* is Maturin the turtle, a cosmic being that essentially serves as a benevolent counterpart to the evil in Derry. Maturin hasn't been portrayed in any adaptations yet — it would be very difficult to pull off — but is often referenced. *Welcome to Derry* is no exception, with the school's mascot being Bert the Turtle. We also see Matty (Miles Ekhardt) give Lilly (Clara Stack) a toy turtle, and she responds by saying, "Turtles are lucky."

A bloody finger rising from the drain on 'IT: Welcome to Derry'

A bloody finger rising from the drain on 'IT: Welcome to Derry'.

- After Lilly hears the voice of missing Matty coming up through her bathtub drain, she shrieks when one of his bloody fingers reaches up through it. This may or may not be a reference to "The Moving Finger," a short story collected in King's 1993 book *Nightmares & Dreamscapes*. In that story, a man is haunted by a long, multi-jointed finger rising from his bathroom sink.****

- Eagle-eyed viewers will see a *Creature From the Black Lagoon* poster in Phil's (Jack Molloy Legault) room. In the book, the scaly Creature is among the many forms Pennywise takes when terrorizing its victims.

"Alvin Marsh," reads bathroom graffiti in 'IT: Welcome to Derry'

"Alvin Marsh," reads bathroom graffiti in 'IT: Welcome to Derry'.

- During a scene between Lilly and Marge (Matilda Lawler) in the school bathroom, the name "Alvin Marsh" is seen written inside a heart on the wall. Alvin Marsh is the name of the abusive father of the Losers' Club's Beverly Marsh (played by Sophia Lillis and Jessica Chastain in the films).****

- This one might be pushing it, but Teddy is notably seen reading a Clayface comic book. For one, Clayface is, like Pennywise, a shapeshifter. Secondly, DC Studios' upcoming Clayface film was written by Mike Flanagan, who has directed multiple Stephen King adaptations, including *Gerald's Game*, *Doctor Sleep*, and the upcoming *Carrie* series for Amazon.**

Episode 2: 'The Thing in the Dark'

Peter Outerbridge as Clint Bowers in 'IT: Welcome to Derry' episode 2

Peter Outerbridge as Clint Bowers in 'IT: Welcome to Derry' episode 2.

- This episode offers a look at how the U.S. military is attempting to leverage Hallorann's "gifts," a.k.a. the shining, to help track down Pennywise's lair.****

- Juniper Hill, the mental hospital where Lilly is taken at episode's end, appears in numerous King books, including *IT*. (In the book, one of the guards is named John Koontz, a supposed dig at author Dean Koontz, one of King's contemporaries.)****

- Derry's police chief is named Clint Bowers (Peter Outerbridge), another name that should ring a bell with Constant Readers. Henry Bowers is the local punk who relentlessly bullies the Losers' Club and later falls under the spell of Pennywise. Henry's dad, Butch, was portrayed as a cop in Muschietti's films, and we're guessing Clint is his father.****

- A portrait of actress Rita Hayworth can be seen behind Clint in the bar. The King novella that inspired *The Shawshank Redemption* is called *Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption*. A poster featuring the actress plays prominently into the plot.

A sign announcing the building of a Paul Bunyan statue on 'IT: Welcome to Derry'

A sign announcing the building of a Paul Bunyan statue on 'IT: Welcome to Derry'.

- A great deal of hubbub is being made over the installation of a Paul Bunyan statue in Derry. That statue, as fans of both the book and *IT Chapter Two* know, will be used to terrifying effect by Pennywise.****

- Lilly is seen drinking a Fizz-A-La soda. A fictional soda brand in King's work is Nozz-A-La.****

- This episode marks the first appearance of Secondhand Rose, Secondhand Clothes, a thrift store featured in several King stories. In *IT Chapter Two*, King himself played the store's proprietor.****

- Is this an Easter egg? Maybe? Well, the man Charlotte (Taylour Paige) sees outside the drugstore in downtown Derry looks very much like a younger Norbert Keene, the creepy pharmacist the Losers encounter in the films.

Larry Day as Stan Kersh on 'IT: Welcome to Derry'

Larry Day as Stan Kersh on 'IT: Welcome to Derry'.

- The butcher Charlotte meets is named Stan Kersh (Larry Day). Kersh is also the name of the elderly woman (?) Beverly finds living in her old home when she returns to Derry as an adult.****

- In detention, "Mike loves Christine" is written on the chalkboard. How can we not think of the 1958 Plymouth Fury at the center of King's 1983 novel *Christine*?**

Episode 3: 'Now You See It'

Kids gathered in a graveyard in 'IT: Welcome to Derry' episode 3

Kids gathered in a graveyard in 'IT: Welcome to Derry' episode 3.

Brooke Palmer/HBO

- The episode begins at a circus in 1908. One of the games has players trying to knock down turtle carvings. As we established previously, a turtle appears in King's book as a cosmic representation of order. Turtles are all over this show.****

- Muschietti, who directed the *IT* films and is a co-creator of *Welcome to Derry*, cameos as the creepy piano player inside the circus tent.

Andy Muschietti as the piano player in 'Welcome to Derry' episode 3

Andy Muschietti as the piano player in 'Welcome to Derry' episode 3.

- Clint offers Hank Grogan (Stephen Rider) a Pall Mall cigarette. King often has his characters smoke Pall Malls, most notably in his 1989 book *The Dark Half*.****

- Clint also threatens Hank with a prison sentence in Shawshank, a penitentiary that appears in numerous King stories and adaptations, but is best known as the setting for *The Shawshank Redemption*. "You know what they do to kiddie killers at Shawshank?" Clint asks. Anyone who's read the novella or seen the film will have an idea.****

- During Hallorann's vision of Pennywise's lair, he sees a woman floating above him that he calls "grandma." In King's work, we learn that Hallorann's grandma was also gifted with the Shining, and that she was the one who taught him how to use it.****

- When the ghosts of the dead kids from episode 1 swarm our heroes during the climactic scene in the cemetery, Susie can be heard singing the nursery rhyme "Oranges and Lemons," which you can also hear in Muschietti's *IT* movies.**

Mattel would like you to see another toy story.

The company announced Tuesday that it will release a feature film about the 3D image toy that was introduced in 1939. Phil Johnston — the writer, director, and producer who has worked on animated Disney movies including *Wreck-It Ralph*, *Ralph Breaks the Internet*, and *Zootopia* — will pen the script.

"View-Master was one of my favorite toys when I was a kid (still is), because it gave me a chance to explore faraway worlds without ever leaving my room," Johnston said in a statement. "I would escape into those slides for hours at a time, and no one would yell at me for staring. I want to bring the wonder I felt as a bowl-haired kid in the '80s to the big screen now, and working with Mattel, Sony, and Escape Artists is giving me the chance to do just that."

Johnston's credits also include writing and co-directing Netflix's 2025 movie *The Twits*, based on the Roald Dahl book of the same name, and writing the 2011 Ed Helms comedy *Cedar Rapids*.

Toy company Mattel has some experience translating its toys, such as He-Man and Barbie, to the big screen. The latter, in particular, became a sensation when it was released in 2023.

With a star-studded cast that included Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, Issa Rae, Simu Liu, Kate McKinnon, Will Ferrell, and American Ferrera, the film drew such a large audience that it was one-half of the Barbenheimer phenomenon that lured audiences off their couches and back into theaters in 2023.

Mattel is optimistic.

"View-Master has always been pure magic to me — a simple toy that opened entire worlds beyond imagination," Tom McNulty, a senior executive for Mattel Film, said. "It's an incredible honor to have the brilliant Phil Johnston, one of the most soulful and inventive storytellers in film, at the helm of the View-Master reimagining. Building on our wonderful collaboration with Todd and Jason at Escape Artists on *Masters of the Universe* and now joining forces with Sony Pictures Entertainment, we're thrilled for the opportunity to bring a timeless classic into a bold new era—and to inspire new audiences to see the world with wonder."**

The tale of He-Man will be highlighted in *Masters of the Universe*, which is set for release June 5, 2026. Nicholas Galitzine stars as He-Man in the film, with Camila Mendes as Teela and Idris Elba as Duncan/Man-At-Arms.**

Jeff Goldblum has been changed, truly, for good.

The star of such masterpieces as *The Fly*, *Between the Lines*, and *Deep Cover *recently reflected on his role in the first big screen adaptation of *Wicked*, the musical pulled from the pages of L. Frank Baum that set Broadway afire in the early 2000s.

"I'm lucky. It's uncommon that you get to be doing this over a period of time and get more fertile, and juicy, and interesting, and relevant roles for yourself," he shared on Monday's episode of the British chat show *This Morning*.

Goldblum began to count the ways that *Wicked *and its upcoming sequel, *Wicked: For Good*, were particularly lucky experiences.

"Working with Jon Chu — amazing. It's changed me. You know, after doing this movie — we talked about the animal cruelty — I stopped eating meat and poultry."

Goldblum joked that "this Christmas and Thanksgiving, I may be having another, something else."

Exercising some of that unique Goldblum charm of being able to thread comic and poignant needles simultaneously, the actor shared, "We need the world to work for everybody on Earth and every creature too."

They're words you'd never catch coming out of the mouth of his character in *Wicked*: the Wonderful Wizard of Oz himself.

In the 1995 novel by Gregory Maguire that writer Winnie Holzman and composer-lyricist Stephen Schwartz adapted into the 2003 stage musical, the Wizard is transformed from the blustery tyrant who ultimately softens to the plight of the wayward Kansan Dorothy Gale. In *Wicked*, he's full tyrant, and the evil schemes he perpetrates with the help of the cruel Madame Morrible (Michelle Yeoh in the films) are unforgivable.

One of the musical's dual protagonists, the libelously branded Elphaba Thropp (Cynthia Erivo), discovers that the Wizard and Morrible have connived to suppress the speaking powers of the realm's animal denizens, subordinating them back into a state of beastly helplessness.

"Something bad is happening in Oz," Elphaba sings in one of the first Act's darker numbers.

Giles Keyte/Universal Pictures

Goldblum has clearly taken one of the key, but often under-sung, lessons of *Wicked* to heart: Love your animal neighbors like they were your own.

As for the Wizard and Morrible's treachery, Goldblum and Yeoh have an... interesting theory on what might motivate their criminal collab.

"We met a while ago," Goldblum postulated to * *in March. "The question is, when did I float in? How many years ago during this drought, which had something to do with this animal business? And what happened between us with that [animal] business, and how close were we?"

The actor thinks the characters "may have been deeply close to each other," but teasing the forthcoming conclusion, he hints, "and as we see us now, we're veering apart."

George Clooney can thank — or blame — a single episode of his hit '90s show *ER* for landing the starring role in 1997's *Batman & Robin*.

Director Christopher Chulack, who was behind the camera for the medical drama's Nov. 9, 1995, episode, "Hell and High Water," told TV Insider that it was the one that secured the actor's Caped Crusader role. Clooney's character, Dr. Doug Ross, came to the rescue of a boy who was trapped in a storm drain.**

"That episode got 45 million viewers," Chulack said. "The next day, this is a true story — the next day, Bob Daley and Terry Semel, who were the presidents of Warner Bros. Television, came down and knocked on George's dressing room door and told him, 'You're going to be the next Batman because of the heroism of that episode.' So I figured it's just going to go up from here, and it did."

Yes, it really did, especially after Clooney left *ER* in 1999 to focus on movies full-time, becoming a high-profile star in films such as *Michael Clayton*, *Up in the Air*, *Syriana*, and the *Ocean's Eleven* franchise.

But that probably wasn't because of *Batman & Robin*.

Directed by Joel Schumacher, the superhero film had a stacked cast that also included Arnold Schwarzenegger, Alicia Silverstone, Uma Thurman, and Chris O'Donnell, but it underperformed at the box office and was eviscerated by critics. It currently holds an 11 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 95 reviews. Eesh!

And Clooney is well aware of the movie's reputation.

"I did one superhero movie, and I f---ed it up so bad they won't let me near the set," the actor joked in October 2021 at an event for New York City's Directors Guild of America, per PEOPLE.

Clooney has blamed himself for underperforming in the comic book-based flick other times, too. In December 2023, he told *Entertainment Tonight *that he didn't plan to play Batman ever again.

"I don't think there are enough drugs in the world for me to go back again," the two-time Oscar winner cracked, although he did show up as Batman alter ego Bruce Wayne in that year's *The Flash*.**

More than a half-century into its historic run, Saturday Night Live is still crossing milestones that give its Millennial-and-older fans new gray hairs.

On the most recent episode of SNL, 30 Rockefeller Plaza played host to a sensation in Generation Z's independent music scene: Shane Michael Boose, better known by his stage name Sombr, and known by very few members of Kenan Thompson's own age-group. As the longest-tenured cast member in SNL history, Thompson has already had to come to terms with the fact that his younger cast mates have never known a SNL without him, but, this past weekend, the 20-year-old Sombr recorded a new first for Thompson's incumbency by becoming the first musical guest in SNL history to be born after Thompson made his debut in 2003.

Even at age 50, the old dog of SNL is still breaking out new tricks. And, thankfully for all the older SNL fans who now feel downright decrepit knowing that the new age of musical guests weren't even alive when Will Ferrell was on the show, Sombr's music is too soft, sensitive and slow for us to break a hip trying to dance to it:

This little Saturday Night Live tidbit to put an ache in your bones and a colonoscopy on your calendar comes courtesy of the superfan organization Saturday Night Network. Fans of SNL who were both alive on 9/11 and old enough to have seen Rudy Giuliani roast the show in the first episode following the tragedy commiserated about this new piece of trivia in the SNL subreddit, sharing their thoughts in a viral thread titled, "I feel so old!"

"I was a freshman in college when Kenan debuted. I now have nagging back pain I'm going to talk to my doctor about tomorrow," one SNL fan lamented, "Sunrise, sunset."

Added another user, "I saw someone post awhile back that if you're birth year starts with 19, you're officially old."

"I remember seeing Kenan on the first episode of All That in 1994," one more aged SNL fan chimed in, adding a fitting skull emoji at the end of the comment.

While Sombr's alarming birth year may be a reminder that many of us older SNL fans should start taking baby aspirin on the regular, it is undeniably impressive that SNL is still finding new milestones to cross after so many years on the air. Additionally, just like SNL itself, we, too, can continue to innovate and find new firsts in our lives, even if we're almost always conked out by the cold open and have to watch each new episode on Peacock early Sunday morning.

However, the day SNL finally adds a cast member who is younger than Thompson's tenure will be the day we stop pretending that we find all this Zoomer music remotely listenable.
