"Heated Rivalry" is getting the "SNL" treatment.
The sketch show returned Jan. 17 with its first episode of 2026, which tackled many of the buzziest headlines it missed during its Christmas break. Naturally, the television phenomenon "Heated Rivalry" came up, and it even got its own dedicated sketch.
Host Finn Wolfhard starred in a pre-recorded sketch that mixed "Heated Rivalry" with "Harry Potter" for a fake new show called "Heated Wizardry." In the sketch, Wolfhard starred as Harry Potter falling in love with Ron Weasley (Ben Marshall), in a spoof of the romance between Shane and Ilya on "Heated Rivalry."

The sketch's voiceover declared the story for "Heated Wizardry" was "hastily written after the success of a certain other HBO show" and was the "first series written entirely by girls who wear tails." The sketch was filled with innuendo and wordplay, and Jason Momoa made a surprise cameo as Hagrid, who told Harry Potter, "You're a homo, Harry."

The Canadian series "Heated Rivalry" centers on the romance between a pair of rival hockey players, played by Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie, and it has become a pop culture phenomenon since its premiere in November.

This wasn't the only way "Heated Rivalry" had a presence on "SNL" this week. Colin Jost also referenced the show during "Weekend Update" for a joke that imagined President Donald Trump flirting with the CEO of ExxonMobil.

"After the CEO of ExxonMobil told President Trump that Venezuela was uninvestable, Trump criticized him, saying the company was playing too cute," Jost said. "Then the Exxon CEO said, 'Oh, you think I'm cute?' And Trump said 'I do.' And the Exxon guy said, 'Well, is this cute,' and he put his hand on his thigh. Then, Trump said, 'Not as cute as this,' and kissed him. All on Season 2 of 'Heated Rivalry.'"

In addition to Momoa, Wolfhard's former "Stranger Things" costars Caleb McLaughlin and Gaten Matarazzo popped up both in his monologue and in a pre-recorded sketch imagining possible spinoffs for the Netflix show. Sabrina Carpenter also stopped by to star in a sketch about young boy podcasters, a follow-up to a sketch from when she hosted the show in October.
