While chatting with PEOPLE at the live show and red carpet for Star Search on Wednesday, Jan. 21, the Blackish star, 55, revealed that his son Nathan, 25, is working on the competition show. When asked if he gets cool points from his kids for working on the show, the doting dad of two shared that he does, before revealing his son's role.
"I do. Well, my son is actually a PA [production assistant] on the show. He's actually PA Nate that we brought into the first episode," he says. "And so last night, while the show was happening, he was backstage voting. And so in between acts, I was like, 'Yo, how is it, son? How's the voting going?' He was like, 'It's smooth dad and I just voted.' And then I watched him vote, and so that's why I had to talk about it tonight."

He goes on to share that it's his son's first role as a production assistant, sharing why he decided to join the show and how he's liking it so far.
"He wasn't doing anything. My son's a young artist himself. He's an actor and a musician. And he's like, 'Yo, dad, I'm not doing anything. Can I come be a PA on the show?' And I'm like, 'Sure, son,' " he says. "So he's down here having fun, living and seeing the industry from a different perspective."
Anderson also shared that he and his son exchange notes as they both get to experience the show together.
"My son gets to see it firsthand as well. He gets to live it and experience it in the way that I am. And he has good notes. He sees how he sees it from a different perspective than I do," he tells PEOPLE. "He helps put it together from the production standpoint. So he sees things that I don't see. He hears things that I don't hear. And so then we compare notes."
"He's enjoying it," he adds. "He's having a great time doing the job that he's doing, but he's also having a great time watching this talent and seeing the show come together the way that it is."

In addition to Nathan, the actor is also a father to daughter Kyra, 28. The Law & Order star shares his children with his ex-wife, Alvina Stewart. Alvina first filed for divorce in 2015, citing irreconcilable differences and listing April 1, 2014, as their date of separation. Two years later in 2017, she filed to dismiss the petition, with E! News reporting that the two appeared to reconcile their marriage.
Then, on March 25, 2022, Alvina filed for divorce for the second time, citing the date of separation as "TBD." They came to a settlement in late 2023, and Anthony agreed to pay his ex-wife spousal support and cover her attorney fees.
While attending the Golden Gala at Beverly Hilton last January, Anderson gave PEOPLE an update on his life a year after finalizing his divorce. Reflecting on the past few years, he told PEOPLE he is putting his family first.
"Family is most important to me," the actor explained. "I went through a divorce a couple of years ago and just bringing the family back together — [I] have my son here with me tonight. Just the importance of family and letting bygones be bygones."
Anderson even teased at the time a potential collaboration with his actor son, saying he would love for them to work together.
"My son has been following in my footsteps," he began. "I shouldn't say my footsteps, [but] he's creating his own path as an actor and he's had some success over the last three to five years, so I'm happy for him, supporting him. Hopefully one day we get to work together on something, but he's a great musician, great artist and I'm excited for him as well."
