A new Miss Universe has been crowned following weeks of controversies surrounding the annual beauty pageant.

After a major competition Thursday night at the Challenger Hall in Bangkok, the organization crowned its 2025 winner from a pool of beauty queens representing more than 130 nations from around the world.

In the end, Fátima Bosch, who competed as Miss Mexico, was named the winner, two weeks after a pageant executive, Nawat Itsaragrisil, was dismissed following a viral video that saw him berate her at a pre-competition event.

Itsaragrisil was dismissed from the Miss Universe Organization after a widely circulated video showed him scolding Bosch on Nov. 3, after the latter reportedly refused to participate in a photo shoot. In the clip, Bosch walked out of the room as other contestants followed.

"I just want to let my country know, I'm not afraid to make my voice heard," Bosch later said of the moment in Spanish in a social media post that USA Today translated to English. "It's here stronger than ever, I have a purpose. I have things to say."

Miss Universe President Raúl Rocha eventually announced that Itsaragrisil had been restricted from participating in the 74th edition of the pageant in a video shared to social media.

"I have restricted Nawat's participation in the events that are part of the 74th Miss Universe competition, limiting it as much as possible or eliminating it entirely," Rocha said in Spanish, though the clip also included English subtitles.

He continued, "I will not allow the values of respect and dignity towards women to be violated. [I have] great indignation towards Nawat for the public aggression he committed against Fátima Bosch, Miss Universe Mexico, whom he humiliated, insulted, and showed lack of respect to, [with] serious abuse by calling security to intimidate a defenseless woman. Nawat, you need to stop."

Earlier this week, judge Omar Harfouch resigned days before the pageant was set to begin, after alleging that the organization created an "impromptu jury" to pick 30 finalists from the 136 competing countries.

Rocha and the MUO responded to Harfouch's allegations in a joint statement, in which they denied wrongdoing and clarified that the jury Harfouch referenced was for the Beyond the Crown Program, "an independent social impact initiative" that "operates entirely separately from the Miss Universe competition and from the official judging panel," the statement said.

"Given [Harfouch's] expressed confusion, his public mischaracterization of the program, and his stated desire not to participate, the Miss Universe Organization respectfully acknowledges his withdrawal from the official judging panel," the statement added.

Runners-up in the pageant included representatives from Thailand, Venezuela, the Philippines, and Côte d'Ivoire.
