Hugh Hefner’s real wife from 2012 to 2017, Crystal Harris, privately urged Jessica to reconsider the role. Crystal alleged that she experienced abuse, citing allegations from other women involving exploitation and drugging. Playboy is finding a new life in another film partly inspired by the controversial publication and Hugh Hefner’s legacy. Big names are already attached to the project, including Jack Nicholson’s daughter Lorraine Nicholson, Lily-Rose Depp , and Jessica Biel, who will reportedly play a fictional version of a former playmate who became Hefner’s wife.
However, Hefner’s real-life widow, Crystal Harris, has caught wind of the casting news and claims Jessica’s part isn’t a good look. She urged the 7th Heaven alum to “reconsider” her involvement in the upcoming flick, Playmates , after coming forward about her own tumultuous marriage to the publication’s late founder.
“Please reconsider playing Hugh Hefner’s ‘wife’ if this film intends to romanticize him or the Playboy world,” Crystal wrote in a private message to Jessica, per a screenshot shared by Crystal in a public Instagram Reel.
She then detailed her relationship with Hefner, adding, “I was actually his wife, and I experienced sexual, emotional, financial and physical abuse in that relationship. Many other women have come forward with allegations of rape, coercion, drugging and exploitation as well. There are also deeply troubling concerns involving minors.”
Crystal, who was Hefner’s wife from 2012 until he died in 2017, closed her message with, “I hope everyone involved in this film takes the time to listen to the women who lived it before helping Hollywood turn it back into nostalgia.”
The movie itself is allegedly inspired by Lorraine’s own experiences at the infamous Playboy Mansion with her father as a kid.
According to Variety , the movie’s synopsis is as follows: “Elle (Indiana Elle), a 13-year-old know-it-all who considers the Playboy Mansion her second home, and meets Anna (Lily-Rose Depp), one of seven hopefuls vying to be Playmate of the Month. The two form an unlikely friendship and try to help each other get what the other wants most, a magazine cover and a boy.”
It’s unclear whether the matter was already handled privately, but Jessica has yet to publicly respond to Crystal’s plea.
