An investigation is ongoing
Human remains were discovered as a property was undergoing renovation in northwest Baltimore earlier this week, officials said.
On Thursday, Oct. 8, officers were dispatched to Belvieu Avenue after the fire department notified them about a questionable death at the location, James D. Moses of the Baltimore Police Department confirmed to PEOPLE in a statement.
When authorities arrived, they met with a person who had been renovating the vacant property and found what seemed to be “adult human skeletal remains” inside the building.
“Gender nor manner of death could not be immediately determined,” Moses said.
An investigation is ongoing, and the Maryland Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has been notified. The agency had no further updates when contacted by PEOPLE.
The disturbing discovery comes just over a week after other possible human remains were found in the woods in Truxtun Park in neighboring Annapolis, Md., on Sept. 29, CBS affiliate WJZ, NBC affiliate WBAL and ABC affiliate WMAR reported.
Those remains were also transferred to the medical examiner’s office.
